It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

I also have one lingering WIP, a Dean/Ron for the very patient Callum James. I actually printed out what I had when I was at his flat in England in October, and I really will finish it. It's just taken a back burner, to my chagrin.

Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.

I watched another Film Movement movie Friday night, a truly quirky Australian film that somehow I'd missed since it's coming out in 2003 (I do try to keep up somewhat with Aussie films), He Died With a Felafel in his Hand. I really enjoyed it, especially since the first part of it takes place in Brisbane in an old Queenslander, which just reminded me of how much I need to go back and visit! I don't think any review of it I can cobble together would do it justice; the lead character keeps insisting he's a thwarted writer and keeps moving and living with a slew of seemingly random people (I wasn't sure if some were former school or uni friends or what) with a truly eclectic cast of characters. He goes from Brisbane to Melbourne to Sydney, and I was proud of myself to note that the intro scenes for each location start out the same way, but different; variations on a theme. Recommended. And any movie that starts out with "Golden Brown" by the Stranglers (see icon!) is excellent in my book.

I spent most of today at church which is a rarity for me these days. I don't sing regularly in choir anymore since my hours mean that I can't attend any rehearsals, and frankly, I enjoy having my Sundays as down time. Still, I'd been asked to sing a Lenten Evensong, and so I did, but I went in in the morning for a soprano sectional and then regular rehearsal and the service. Between that service and the afternoon rehearsal I had Grand Intentions of getting my oil changed, but the place only had 2 people working, one of whom was the front desk person. So I gave up. I went to TJ Maxx instead, and then rocked out in my car to Xavier the iPod and my knitting. The Evensong went pretty well.

I've had good conversations with some friends this weekend, though one person is going through a particularly excruciating time emotionally and psychologically, and I feel wounded for him. I'm about to write the last complete post for my first ever foray into Wraeththu fanfic which, being me, has become a novella. This last part is going to be rough emotionally, as are the first few from the other character's POV, and I continue to struggle with Ashmael's reasonings/outlook on things, so I may post in raythoo about it to see if I can get insights from other folks. I do still struggle in that I can't talk with most of you lovelies about it because my flist is primarily HP and Tolkien fan-based. Nothing wrong with that, but I guess I do feel a little isolated. Oh well. It's all callumjames' fault for telling me about the series last summer and then buying the initial trilogy as a house-warming gift. I'm so glad that sexyscholar is starting to read Wraeththu so I can squee with her about stuff.

Speaking of Callum, a special congratulatory shout out to you and wolfiekins for your wins at bestmates! I'm a bit sad that I didn't make it into the winner's circle this year, but that's how these things go.

This is a shorter post, a one scene vignette to get Thiede and Arahal back in the picture as my gap-filler weaves ever closer to original canon. And I couldn't resist making an icon for Parallax. I get to share my natal day with two people I actually know this year, more than I've ever had (I've never had a friend with the same birthday before): heidi8 and verdenia. I'm also 2 days late in wishing very festive and joyous birthdays to altariel1 and snottygrrl, who share a birthday on the 13th. I'm going to do a wrap-up tonight of thank yous, mostly that you all are in my life. (((grateful hugs)))

In hobbitish fashion, I'm giving out gifts on my birthday, in this case, the gift of fic. I have two offerings, one here and one over at ginger_lust. (I'm linking directly to my website as the link on the comm is locked; the fic is adult and we have some under-18 watchers at the comm) It's the fic I'd had simmering in my head last fall when I first came up with the idea of a Ron-centric, prompt-driven fic community to post after the Christmas/holiday large fests and exchanges. The other fic is my first foray into Wraeththu fanfiction, so for any folks who come here from raythoo, welcome, and I'd love your thoughts! Especially since only two people on my flist have read the series. ;) I'm still new enough to the fandom that I'm not sure of any particular canon-compliant notices, but this is the beginning of what I can tell will be a long gap filler, and is based on the first three Wraeththu novels and being more fleshed out as I now read the second trilogy. Also to be cross-posted over in the WIP Pinkboard at Forever, a Wraeththu fanfic archive. Also, Wraeththu fanfiction authors tend to have lots of original characters, so I'm not sure whether or not to warn for that, or how to announce such things. Ah, being a newbie again. Hopefully somebody will show me the ropes. For anyone else on my flist, feel free to read, though it'll probably seem like original fic. There are some pictures here to give you some idea of what hara may look like, though it's sadly lacking on this webpage in any pictures of Vaysh. This photo book would also make a great gift. ;) Sadly not available through Amazon or B&N or I'd get it myself.
