A new path

Found myself describing the rearrangement on my altar as part of an initiation rite. I ordered a dragon pin from a vintage seller because it represents Skyfyr, a wild fiery peacock manifestation that I realize will fit best as my ridable magical animal of choice in the Wraeththu Otherlanes. I'm so excited! This sandbox is so creative, and I feel privileged beyond measure that I was able to spend a few, sacred hours in her presence back in 2008. Only now, having Doorstepped to the next beyond, and me being in this unique spiritual space during a MASSIVE Saturn Return, can I look back and see that trip to England for what it really was: it was a sacred pilgrimage to be with a spiritual soulmate. I just wasn't far enough along on my own journey to see it for just how rich an experience it was. It was pretty fucking magical in the moment already, no bones about it! I sat in the Akashic Records of my people: the printing press of Immanion Press, surrounded by bookcases of the holy scriptures of my people. My hara. My yið on my planet in my writerly sandbox playground that is nothing if not a lovesong to Storm Constantine and the world she shared so generously with us, her fans.

I come to the Wraeththu Hegemony bringing gifts. I am Riverrun, the Diviner. I ride Skyfyr, the Peacock of Fire. What a gorgeous world in which to spend time on my commutes, writing in my composition notebook. Maybe what I'm writing can be a kind of Wraeththu AU??

Today I sing the song of the harish body electric, my own harish DNA lighting up as I practice my baby contortion exercises through the day and every moment of my life feels like I'm drinking nonstop an ethanol-free elixir. Yeah, I'm also on cannabis, which super frees up my creative space! And my verbosity. :P

Thus endeth this panegyric.

It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

Wraeththu
All of my Wraeththu fics can be found here at my website. You can't leave reviews, but for the first fic below, I do have it saved as a pdf there, and there are pictures of 'Castlegar' as well as some other yummy pictures.
§ Maelstrom and Mage, Desire Thine Darkling
49,083 words; Ashmael/Vaysh and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu [where you can leave a review! ;) ] or here as a pdf file to download.

§ Down the Whispering Well

Available here at Forever Wraeththu. I didn't get around to making a pdf of this one, though maybe I will soon.

§ Interpret Me the Savage Whirr
6,198 words; Seel/Ashmael, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Quare Clausum Fregit (Wherefore he broke the close)
3,364 words; Vaysh/OC [Yazdyar, from 'Down the Whispering Well'], adult
Available here on LJ and here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Mere Trifles
1,723 words; Seel/Swift (not adult), Cobweb
Available here at Forever Wraeththu or here at my website. I don't seem to have ever posted it at my LJ!

§ Reap the Wild Wind
24,402 words; Kelp/Blackspur, Kelp/Hunt (OCs), adult
Link to the first post on my LJ here, or you can read the whole thing here at my website. It hasn't yet been uploaded to Forever Wraeththu.

§ Libertine
389 words; Terzian, PG-13
Available here at my LJ

A few Wraeththu drabbles written along the way are here at my website

Harry Potter
§ Cloudscape of Ravens
18,030 words; Ron/OC, Ron/Severus, adult
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust Ron-centric fest I hosted with a lot of help. The link there is locked to ensure no-one underage in the community got to it, but you can read it here at my website or here at Skyehawke if you'd care to leave a review.

§ No Shame, This Life, Beloved
14,792 words; Ron/Draco, adult; in all likelihood, the last story in the "Magic Immunity" story arc.
Available here at my LJ

§ A Rally Toward Exalted Moments
5,567 words; Harry/Charlie, adult
Available here at my LJ or here at the [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest community

§ Scotch Game
9,144 words; Ron/Remus, adult
Available here at my LJ; it's locked at the [livejournal.com profile] remus_ron_slash community to prevent underage folks from reading it there.

§ The Sensibility of Wantonness
3,181 words; Ron/Draco ["Crown of Rope" universe], adult
Available here at my LJ

I also seem to have written a slew of various drabbles by request on a few different days. Rather than organize them, there are a bunch of requested HP drabbles here (some Wraeththu, too, but I put them on my website), a rare het Ron/Hermione drabble here and Ron/Charlie drabble from the vampire!Charlie incest story I wrote a year or so ago for [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins

I also have one lingering WIP, a Dean/Ron for the very patient Callum James. I actually printed out what I had when I was at his flat in England in October, and I really will finish it. It's just taken a back burner, to my chagrin.

Swordspoint
These are nearly all drabbles, though I think I did write a vignette. LOL. I've written a lot this year and can't keep it all straight! Hence the annual wrap-up.

Basil's Banquet, Fall of the Kings drabble
Untitled Richard/Alec drabble
Revenge Effloresces, Richard/Alec drabble

Hmmmm. Thought I'd written more Swordspoint than that; I think I just wish I had!

Lord of the Rings
Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Untitled Halbarad-centric drabble
Alliances, Gimli-centric
Untitled Gimli-centric drabble
Untitled Éowyn-centric drabble
Untitled Celeborn/Aragorn drabble, adult
Another untitled Gimli-centric drabble

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.

Here I am again at the internet cafe, timed to be able to do my online check-in for my British Airways flight tomorrow and select a window seat. So now that's accomplished, and I'm making my last post from the U.K.

Bring on the English weather and the obligatory illness )

I guess I don't have that much left to report, sadly. I did some writing on my new Wraeththu yesterday and will probably do some this afternoon between now and coming back into town. If I had a companion, I suspect I'd spend more time in town at a cafe or something, but since it is kind of cold and I'm coming down with something, I don't mind spending a couple of hours of downtime at the guesthouse, reading and writing and having lunch. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight since I tend not to sleep well the night before I travel. I really do regret having to leave this country; oddly, perhaps because I was with friends for so long, including an American family with Matt, in some ways I've not felt that I've been out of the country at all. The accents are different, yes, but I don't feel at all like a foreigner. Very strange. I'll never forget when Callum let me print out what I'd written on the Ron/Dean story I started for him last spring, and I was so shocked to realize the paper was A4 size. I looked at him and said, "I'm in England. I forgot." It was as though I'd known him forever and was just visiting someone from out of town, not out of the country!!

With that, I'll close. Please keep me in your thoughts as I make my return journey with the Suitcase of DoomTM and scratchy throat. (((hugs)))

Monday was a travel day- all went well except for a slight miscommunication with [livejournal.com profile] matildabishop which did cause a little stress, but I found them in the coach station after a while. That seems to be a theme for this trip. ;) I'm now in Birmingham!

I managed to make it to the Bishop household without incident, though without help I might have missed the stop. I've now traveled via plane, train, automobile, and coach. I suppose if I'd taken the ferry in Portsmouth, then I'd have covered a great number of ways to travel! I did some research into staying in Bath before seeing how expensive it would be to get to the airport, so I've gone back to research into staying in Oxford. [livejournal.com profile] verdenia has friends who graciously offered for me to spend the night before my flight, but they're off to the SE of London and I'm now at a point where I want minimal schlepping of the SoD, so I'm going to simply spend my last few nights in Oxford and take the bus in the morning. At that point I'll need to find an internet cafe, so if I'm quieter once I leave the Bishops, that's why.

Today Matilda and I are going to Worcester Cathedral, and maybe also the Red House Glass Cone, built in 1790.

Hope that you're all doing well and enjoying this wee travelogue. ♥
