It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

Wraeththu
All of my Wraeththu fics can be found here at my website. You can't leave reviews, but for the first fic below, I do have it saved as a pdf there, and there are pictures of 'Castlegar' as well as some other yummy pictures.
§ Maelstrom and Mage, Desire Thine Darkling
49,083 words; Ashmael/Vaysh and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu [where you can leave a review! ;) ] or here as a pdf file to download.

§ Down the Whispering Well
44,523 words; Vaysh/Ashmael and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu. I didn't get around to making a pdf of this one, though maybe I will soon.

§ Passion's Acolyte
3,015 words; Cal/Swift, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Interpret Me the Savage Whirr
6,198 words; Seel/Ashmael, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Quare Clausum Fregit (Wherefore he broke the close)
3,364 words; Vaysh/OC [Yazdyar, from 'Down the Whispering Well'], adult
Available here on LJ and here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Mere Trifles
1,723 words; Seel/Swift (not adult), Cobweb
Available here at Forever Wraeththu or here at my website. I don't seem to have ever posted it at my LJ!

§ Swooping to Landward
13,800 words; Chithra/Lemuel (OCs), a study of Fioan/Colurastes cultural interaction, adult
Available here on LJ (link is to part one) or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ After the Storm, Restless Fire
4,979 words; Ithiel/Cobweb and Ithiel/Terzian, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Reap the Wild Wind
24,402 words; Kelp/Blackspur, Kelp/Hunt (OCs), adult
Link to the first post on my LJ here, or you can read the whole thing here at my website. It hasn't yet been uploaded to Forever Wraeththu.

§ Libertine
389 words; Terzian, PG-13
Available here at my LJ

A few Wraeththu drabbles written along the way are here at my website

Harry Potter
§ Cloudscape of Ravens
18,030 words; Ron/OC, Ron/Severus, adult
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust Ron-centric fest I hosted with a lot of help. The link there is locked to ensure no-one underage in the community got to it, but you can read it here at my website or here at Skyehawke if you'd care to leave a review.

§ No Shame, This Life, Beloved
14,792 words; Ron/Draco, adult; in all likelihood, the last story in the "Magic Immunity" story arc.
Available here at my LJ

§ A Rally Toward Exalted Moments
5,567 words; Harry/Charlie, adult
Available here at my LJ or here at the [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest community

§ Scotch Game
9,144 words; Ron/Remus, adult
Available here at my LJ; it's locked at the [livejournal.com profile] remus_ron_slash community to prevent underage folks from reading it there.

§ The Sensibility of Wantonness
3,181 words; Ron/Draco ["Crown of Rope" universe], adult
Available here at my LJ

I also seem to have written a slew of various drabbles by request on a few different days. Rather than organize them, there are a bunch of requested HP drabbles here (some Wraeththu, too, but I put them on my website), a rare het Ron/Hermione drabble here and Ron/Charlie drabble from the vampire!Charlie incest story I wrote a year or so ago for [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins

I also have one lingering WIP, a Dean/Ron for the very patient Callum James. I actually printed out what I had when I was at his flat in England in October, and I really will finish it. It's just taken a back burner, to my chagrin.

Swordspoint
These are nearly all drabbles, though I think I did write a vignette. LOL. I've written a lot this year and can't keep it all straight! Hence the annual wrap-up.

Basil's Banquet, Fall of the Kings drabble
Untitled Richard/Alec drabble
Revenge Effloresces, Richard/Alec drabble

Hmmmm. Thought I'd written more Swordspoint than that; I think I just wish I had!

Lord of the Rings
Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Untitled Halbarad-centric drabble
Alliances, Gimli-centric
Untitled Gimli-centric drabble
Untitled Éowyn-centric drabble
Untitled Celeborn/Aragorn drabble, adult
Another untitled Gimli-centric drabble

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.

I wanted to be one of the first to wish you birthday greetings! You've been with me a long time now... thank you for being such a devoted fan of my Ron/Draco writings, for our three-way email conversations with [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea, for the many cards you've sent over time, for letting me beta for you, and for being a true, caring, affectionate, talented, one of a kind friend in my life. This is only a small thing, but it's R/D for you. I hope you enjoy. XOXOX

Title: The Sensibility of Wantonness
Rating: NC-17
Alerts/Warnings: Rimming, shibari, a distinct lack of angst ;)
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] callumjames [smooches]
Author's Notes: Set within my 'Crown of Rope' universe; PWP. The concept of Draco posing for a set of photographs to do with Scandinavian mythology comes from Theron and his tattoo and the artist for whom he poses in The Fall of the Kings by Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman.
Summary: Draco invites Ron to an art show of a student for whom he's been posing as Baldr, a Norse figure of myth. Ron finds he's unexpectedly moved by the portraits and gives Draco a night to remember.

I'm at home, as my knight in armor, [livejournal.com profile] pghpatronus, has come down with the flu, so I'm not travelling to visit with him and [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley. We're all disappointed that we won't get to see each other, and I hope that PGH gets well soon. He's on some serious meds, and I'm in a funk.

So! This time of year is a good time to look back. I can't really begin to comprehend how incredibly painful, anger- and anxiety-ridden this year has been for me in RL, so instead, here's the listing of the stories I've written, the various new and old pairings and life experiences I explored through writing as an escape and/or written alternative to my own situations out in the world. Despite the very, very challenging year, I've written a lot that I'm proud of, and hope that you who are readers of my fic, have enjoyed at least one or two of my output from 2007.

fic listing, in chronological order )

The ones I'm most proud of? Probably the Ron/Dean Vermilion Hunger, Cerulean Thirst; Strange-Eyed Constellation (a rare trio if ever there was one!); Strife from the Furthest Prime, and Crown of Rope. Here's to an equally creative outpouring in 2008. For those of you who continue to read and enjoy my stories and let me know, my heartfelt thanks to you. To those who read my stories and lurk, thank you for that as well. And to my many betas, I so appreciate your insights and enthusiasm. With each story I hope that I'm honing my craft, and one of my planned intentions is to spread my wings a bit out beyond fanfic this next year. I'd hoped to do that in 2007, but it wasn't to be. Still, as I look back at what I did contribute to the Harry Potter fandom in 2007, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Thank you all for bothering to take the time to read my often long-ish fics, and to let me know what you thought.

My workdays are quite frenetic, hence why I've not posted much during the week. My job has decidedly changed, but as I've become a bit more used to it, as well as fine-tuned my attitude, things have improved. I do find myself looking askance in many ways at some lower management decisions, and can only shake my head. Of the three supervisors for customer care, I believe the oldest is 26 or 27. So... I've been out in the workforce for at least a decade longer than all of them, and have a bit more perspective, which keeps me from going slightly batshite on occasion.

So! music and links! )

I've also finally taken a couple of leisurely walks down the dirt road which I now live on. There are a lot of cows nearby, as well as some 'regular' houses that aren't on farms. Lots of dogs, and trucks, and large swaths of grassy hills until they meet treelines. It's delightfully quiet and relatively serene out here, truly. You can't hear the highway, and due to a distinct lack of street lights, the stars at night when the sky is clear is absolutely phenomenal. Did I mention there's no shortage of cows down the road? Pretty funny. I'm settling in well to the new place and the independence of my roommates means that we can chat if we want, but pretty much we all do our own thing, which I find to be just perfect.

Not much in writing news: finished the epilogue for my [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust fic which has already been beta'ed and is now at a second; edited for two of my dear friends; wrote two drabbles over at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble and have found myself getting back to the last installment of "Magic Immunity." I did get a short but enthusiastic review for "Crown of Rope" over at Skyehawke, which was gratifying.

I hope that you all have a good beginning to your week! Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] risiepookie, thank you so much for your gorgeous card and bookmark and the pictures! How splendid to have pictures of your smiling face that I can look at any time. :D

Yeah, I couldn't let dear [livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar's birthday go by without some long-promised R/D smut.

Title: Sowing the Seeds of Lust
Pairing: Ron/Draco, "Crown of Rope" universe
Rating: NC-17
Genre: PWP, Romance
Word count: 5200
Warnings/kinks: Rimming, double penetration, shibari
Summary: For Draco's 24th birthday, Ron and Draco are back in Japan, and Ron has planned an exceptionally memorable evening for his lover.
A/N: For you, dear Mona (and [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea, the third and equal part of our own R/D 'golden trio'). Thank you both for your enthusiasm for all of my writing, but the Ron/Draco especially, and for being an integral part of "Crown of Rope" as it was being written. Title is inspired by the song "Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain)" by INXS. Unbeta'ed due to time constraints; if you see something, let me know!

I went to a wedding in Blacksburg on Saturday, accompanying a friend to his niece's nuptials in a chapel on the Virginia Tech campus. It was, by far, the fastest wedding ceremony I've ever attended. Twelve minutes, tops, from seating of the mothers to the b&g leaving the chapel. I was rather stunned. My friend helped me subversively to collect two male rubber duck groom toys that were included in a few goodie bags for the children there. They were, of course, originally a duck groom and duck bride, but I had Grand Plans for these, and as I think you all know, I'm just not the most heteronormative person out there. The night at the hotel was fine, though I'd had high hopes for a really sound sleep. Why I thought I'd sleep better solo in a hotel bed versus solo in mine I'm not sure. I enjoyed my friend's company, and it wasn't a bad thing to get out of town, even for 24 hours.

When the call went out for people to help out for 4-hour shifts at work over the weekend, I volunteered. If I'm going to spend time online anyway, why not get paid time and a half to do so? I did from 1-5 today. I did have a few calls to answer, but mostly I got caught up on LJ, and typed up fic.

My [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust fic is turning out so completely differently from how I envisioned it. I'd originally envisioned this bleak landscape for Ron and a heartless, manipulative other character (keeping it secret for now). While there is some chemically-induced mindfuck, as I'd planned as part of the plot device, there's humor sprouting up. The way these two have been communicating is, well, just not what I'd expected. Does this happen to other writers, that your characters take over? I think these two may have rather a torrid, albeit dysfunctional time, and I'm no longer certain about the ending. Weird. Also, I'm simply so pleased with the community as a whole. The mods and I will be recc'ing fics between now and January when the fics will be posted, hopefully including older fics that may be new to some, and some writers who don't perhaps get the acknowledgment that they should. I'll never, ever tire of explorations of Ron as a character.

My [livejournal.com profile] bestmates_xmas fic has also been started, and I'm shocked to discover that it's going to be both cracktastic, and verging on fluffy. I just don't do that, but, well, I don't know. Perhaps it's more bizarrely romantic than some I've written, or there's simply minimal angst. Go figure.

I'm still in love with Crown of Rope. I may well write a missing scene or two in that universe between now and January.

♥ to you all! Another Sunday night, another looming workweek...
thrihyrne: Portland, OR (I ship R/D by me)
Title: Crown of Rope
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Word Count: 40,500
Rating: NC-17
Warnings/kinks: rope bondage/shibari
DH-compiant, EWE genre
Summary: Weeks after the end of the War, Draco was confronted with an attraction to a person that defied all reason, and he fled— to Japan. Three years later, he discovers the appeal was and is mutual, but nothing comes easily between a Malfoy and a Weasley. R/D, DH-compliant ignoring the epilogue. Written in part for the Fire + Ice Deathly Hallows epilogue challenge.

A/N: The creative kernels for this fic came from two discrete sources; the song "I Scare Myself" by Thomas Dolby and a NWS image provided by the always-inspiring [livejournal.com profile] liriaen, who gifted the picture to go along with a couple of her drabbles at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble. There are lots of resources on shibari out there, and I've looked at many of them, but it was this picture that gave me the initial springboard. My exceeding thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mrsquizzical for the beta/insight and to [livejournal.com profile] callumjames for the Britpick and thoughtful perspective. My gratitude also to [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea and [livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar for letting me send them some snippets along the way. Their enthusiasm gave me permission for this story to be a bit longer than I'd initially anticipated. Cross-posted to the R/D comms I enjoy.

And because I enjoy giving gifts, here are another couple of songs that were inspiring as I wrote this. "Give it Up" by 8mm, which I didn't know until [livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar put it on her R/D mix, "Feels Like It Should," and the entire "Kundun" soundtrack by Philip Glass. Here are two selections, "Lhasa at Night" and "Norbu Plays". I'm a huge Philip Glass fan from the late 80s. :)
