thrihyrne: Portland, OR (love is a many gendered thing by me)
At last, it's time for me to post my [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest story! Actually, it was supposed to be the 13th but I had it in my head as the 15th, so I'm posting it on the last Amnesty Wednesday. I've never written in this fandom, but both of my dear betas felt I had a competent hold on it. So I now present my first ever historical fanfiction, set within Diana Gabaldon's Lord John Grey series.

Title: Love Never to be Forsworn
Fandom: Diana Gabaldon, Lord John Grey series
Pairing/characters: Hector Mumford, Lord John Grey
Rating: R
Disclaimer: Anyone who's seen her fanfiction kerfuffle (which she subsequently took down) knows that Ms. Gabaldon isn't a supporter of fanfic because her characters are hers, hers, HERS!!! Too bad. I enjoyed writing them and writing their possible backstory.
Prompt: 1870. Lord John Grey series, John/Hector, When John met Hector, anything about how their relationship started (including coming out scenarios if you wish), or the issues surrounding the need for secrecy - finding love and being gay in the 18th C British army. From either's POV.
Summary: A young second lieutenant, Hector Mumford is quite adept at keeping his personal life — and preferences for his own sex — out of his life in the army. When the young Lord John Grey is brought into the regiment, Hector must decide whether or not to risk his commission, or risk missing out on having an intimate brother in arms.
Author's Notes: My vast thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5 and [livejournal.com profile] emansil_08 for their very helpful betas and their equal enthusiasm for this particular story. I really needed some hand-holding and affirmation, and they provided it as well as their astute observations.

As an aside, I did some searching on art for British soldiers of the time and found a picture that I think could easily have been Second Lieutenant Hector Mumford:

Author's notes: Thank you to my betas: [livejournal.com profile] emansil_08, [livejournal.com profile] brumeux77 and [livejournal.com profile] emeraldsedai (who also introduced me to Google Docs!). Also thanks to my recipient, whose request was deliciously vague. But any prompt of 'Ron is sexy' is enough to get my imagination going!

Yes, the reveal at [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest has gone up and this was my primary offering, and George/Neville, at that. A rarepair that I'd not written before, or even considered!
And I was also given a banner! Art is by [livejournal.com profile] melmoe1

I'm hoping to nudge a little traffic to the much-appreciated [livejournal.com profile] remus_ron_slash community, so if you'd like to read my short and non-angsty (!!) contribution, please go here to read "Call Up the Shades." R rating, romantic.

And now, back to editing and writing and hoping I can bake a chicken breast without burning it. :P Then a regular workday at the opera. Happy Tuesday to you all! ♥
thrihyrne: Portland, OR (Wraeththu by me)
Story Notes: Written for the Forever Wraeththu songfic challenge. Initially mentioned by Cal to Swift in Bewitchments (I think that's the first time it's mentioned!) and then described in more gory details in Wraiths, Cal's murder of Orien in cold blood, after taking aruna, to me remains one of the most inexplicable things Cal ever does. So… I decided to try and go there, in his head. It was, thankfully, a very short visit. :P I want to thank [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5 for beta'ing and [livejournal.com profile] persephone100 for her feedback. Any remaining or added errors are my own. The inspirational song and source of the lyrics Cal sings as well as the title of this story is "All Along the Watchtower," penned by Bob Dylan. I must admit that it's Bear McCreary's version from the Battlestar Galactica season 3 soundtrack that I've had on repeat.
Pairings: Cal/Orien, but that's not the focus of this.
Rating: R
Word count: 1412
Warnings: Murder, quite dubious sanity
Spoilers: The Bewitchments of Love and Hate, The Wraiths of Will and Pleasure
Disclaimer: The characters, plot and setting all belong to Storm Constantine

Darling!! Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] liriaen, whom I first met over at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble and discovered in her a fellow R/D lover and a writer whose beautiful and often unexpected turns of phrase and imagery astounds me more than I can sometimes fathom; English isn't her first language. That she is so eloquent in two langauges (at least!) is inspiring and humbling. With a wicked sense of humor and boundless talent, I'm so glad that I've gotten to know you a bit more beyond your words to your life in Germany.

So for you, using this week's prompt at the community where I first found you, here's 100 words of adjective-heavy R/D PWP for you. Many, many happy returns! And hopefully the card I sent will get to you fairly soon. ;)

Title: Strange-Eyed Constellation
Pairing(s):
Past Fred/Seamus, Seamus/Dean, eventual Fred/Seamus/Dean, Ron/Harry
Rating: This chapter R; language and potentially disturbing imagery
Summary: War can make strange bedfellows; peacetime allows kindred spirits to join together. Seamus discovers both, and in being true to the baffling desires of his heart, believes that love needn't come exclusively in pairs.
A/N: my thanks to [livejournal.com profile] auntee_mame for the written beta; exceeding gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] callumjames for letting me read aloud and giving me insightful feedback while I write this; also for their enthusiasm over what's certainly a rare trio. For my many R/D friends, I have a new fic for you, written by a dear friend and very talented authoress, [livejournal.com profile] geoviki. It's here, A Slow-Motion Accident. It's cleverly written, has a unique plot to get the two together, features an acerbic!ghost!Draco and resigned!earnest!Ron. There's also a bit of hotness, and it's heart-warming as well.

Go read it between OotP viewings (I'm not even going into the lack-of-Ron-ness that's not secret; I'm not posting my thoughts until after the weekend) and enjoy some new R/D. And let her know if you enjoyed it! :)

This novella with pairings I've not really written before all started with a prompt from [livejournal.com profile] risiepookie. Many of you know that I'm drawn to threesomes, and this story explores that realm with its rather complex dynamics, especially considering the characters in this. Here's the summary and a few notes:

Title: Strange-Eyed Constellation
Pairing(s): Past Fred/Seamus, Seamus/Dean, eventual Fred/Seamus/Dean, Ron/Harry
Rating: Overall NC-17, though not each section will be so. I'll let you know.
Status: WIP; I'll be posting probably once a week; it's currently a little over 23K words. Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] deamus.
This story has two very short vignette prologues, which are actually the kernels which prompted me to keep going. The first is this: The Test of the Heart is Trouble. The second, a very short, untitled vignette set a couple of months later in the story arc is here. I'd recommend starting there as otherwise the rest may seem rather odd. ;)

what I'm doing at my new job )

I do have a cold and feel kind of like crap, but in spite of that, it's been a great weekend having the house to myself while my parents are in North Carolina for a wedding.

[livejournal.com profile] risiepookie, I'm sorry I didn't call last night, but I was on the phone for four hours with [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins, by which point [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley had come home from work, so I talked with him for an additional 45 minutes. But— your Dean/Ron fic is finished, and I just adore it. I hope that you will, too. In fact, I got all sniffly this morning as I wrote the last scene. I'll be sending it to my betas today.

I also wrote a quadruple drabble yesterday morning, attempting to get caught up with the prompts at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble. So I took the four I hadn't done and combined them all into an exactly 400-word drabblette, here. Like nearly all of my R/D drabbles, it's in the Magic Immunity universe.

Now I'm going to have a little breakfast, take a hot soak in the bath, and then curl up on the couch to watch "The History Boys" which [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley were so kind to mail to me. I'm also enjoying the cold weather and rain, with bonus thunder tossed in!

Thinking of you all and hoping that you're well. :)

Last night around 12:30 a.m. I posted about feeling as though I was in a rut, writing-wise; same pairings, same situations, rhubarb, rhubarb. So I asked for four people to send me pairings/situations/ambiance/lyrics prompts, and received four lyrics-driven prompts, all HP (I do still write Tolkien, even though not much of late).

[livejournal.com profile] risiepookie's jumped at me first, so here 'tis. Her pairing request was Dean/Ron, but since I'm writing an ever-growing fic with that pairing thanks to her prompt, I opted for her suggestion #2: Fred/Seamus. But then her prompt suggestion was "Missing" by Evanescence, lyrics here. o_O I love challenges like that! So, here's the fic. And while it's Seamus/Fred, I think it mostly turned into a small lovefest about Dean's character. Whoops.

[livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley and I wrote double drabbles, ie: 200 words, exactly. Wolfie wrote up names and we picked our pairings out of a rubbermaid container, and they're promptless. They're all adult-ish in content.

My pairing was Bill/Severus, and hard R, not gratuitous.

Insight )

Wolfie's was Fred/Stan Shunpike. o_O And it's NC-17.

Koshie's was Percy/Neville, PG with innuendo.

Title: Walking Each Other Home
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Rating: R, for strong language and mention of adult activities, but strangely enough (for me), nothing actually happens in the story itself
Summary: The map of the human heart- challenging terrain for an inexperienced cartographer. Especially so if it's Draco in denial, and Ron Weasley is involved.
A/N: Intermediary story in the Magic Immunity universe, from Draco's POV. Set roughly before and after "All That I'm Good for Is You."

Those of you on my flist who subscribe to Ron-centric comms, my apologies; you will have seen my barrage of posts to them.

To those on my flist not into my HP fic, this is slash, and while not explicit, does reference it. Feel free to skip, no worries.

thrihyrne: Portland, OR (Kindly Winter's Gift for annmarwalk)
I have to say just a couple of things about this, because this gift exchange has been the most serendipitous, astounding series of events. I was picked to write for [livejournal.com profile] annmarwalk, someone I didn't recognize, but the parameters were fine (3rd age Rohan or Gondor), and I chose Rohan. Yes, big shock. But- I began writing, and Théodred was the main character. I think he showed up in one chapter in "Daughers of Orome," but otherwise, as a character, he was never on my radar. So I'm about halfway through this story and I go wandering over to [livejournal.com profile] annmarwalk's LJ and see that she's a huge Théodred fan. So I investigate a little more and discover that she lives in the same state. So I make aquaintances, add her to the flist, read some of her stuff (lovely, evocative vignettes), and we tentatively agree to meet up IRL since we live relatively close. Then she emailed me to say that she'd read my paper, "Under the Waterfall," back when she was first getting involved in Tolkien fandom, and it had made a big impact on how she chose to participate in the archive and fandom circles.

WOW. I was so excited, I printed out her email to show my parents over dinner. I jabbed at it, saying, "This is who I get to meet after Christmas! She read my paper! It meant something to her!!" and babbled other things.

So- I'm so glad that it's 12:02 a.m. on the 24th so I can post my story for her, which now carries much more "I really hope you like this" than when I started it, when it was much more "I'll try Ardaverse slash and maybe the recipient will like it, maybe not." Karma baby, karma. The icon is for you, too. I was making them for my other giftfics, so I made one for this story as well. Merry Christmas!!

[livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl's request came via email:

you did, however, ask me if i'd like a story, and i don't want to add to your pile, but if you find yourself with some spare time and feel like writing a little severus/remus, i wouldn't mind. [*smooches*]

To that end, here's "Love, Love Me, Do" for you. It ties in directly with [livejournal.com profile] matildabishop's "Wash Me Throughly". Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] llembas's fast and astute beta, as I suspected, it really doesn't stand alone. (and the author made the characters really wordy and a little too similar) But it's hopefully a nice companion piece with the other, and I hope that you enjoy it. Story and icon are dedicated to you, whose sage words on life and love keep me at least a smidgen away from completely jaded in regards to relationships.

Title: Love, Love Me, Do
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: Gen/Romance
Summary: Set during and post WMT, Remus' POV. Contemplative-heavy correspondence passes between Remus and Severus while Remus is removing the Impuratus from Ron. Questions are asked, memories relived, resolution… hoped-for. Remus/Severus.
