Evidently this is the Year In Which Thevina Gets Two Yuletide Stories. The second one is in a fandom I've included in my own hoped-for writing category every year, "Secret of Roan Inish." It's a quiet story, which is evocative of the film, and my anonymous author obviously is as besotted by the film as I am. Her (I assume) story is just what I could have hoped for, addressing what it would have been like for Fiona and Jamie, her lost-then-found younger brother, as they get older and are still coping with Jamie's youngest years.

Even if you haven't seen the movie, if you have a thing for selkies and Scottish island myths, you'll love this delicious gem.

I'll admit that in past years, I was mostly jazzed about writing, not what I received. This year, however, has brought a truly marvelous story my way that I'm not waiting to share!! It's set within "Almost Human," and if you know the wonderful TV series that SO disappointingly wasn't continued, you will love this short story. Everything about it is spot on: the banter, the dialogue, the knowledge of the show. It's phenomenal. If you're interested, please go and read and leave the (still anonymous) author some kind words! ♥

It's been a while since I've posted any fic- this was my Yuletide fic from this past year. Enjoy!

Title: An Indulgence Most Discreet
Fandom: Lord John Grey
Rating: PG-13
Beta: emansil_08 and llembas
Word Count: 3020
Request: I don't have anything specific in mind. Just love him and his tortured sense of honor and vulnerability and how he navigates his world. A moment with Jamie or Percy would be lovely. Or some more about Lavender House. Or even Lord John transported to the Castro circa 1979 (giggle).
Summary: John attempts to recreate a particularly memorable interaction he had experienced with Percy. Set shortly after the events of Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade.

For the first time in ages, I really slept in on Saturday and needed it after my week of getting up so early. But once I was up and had coffee in hand, I spent several hours having unhurried, thoughtful conversations with family and friends, including emansil_08, [livejournal.com profile] persephone100 and [livejournal.com profile] cim_halfling. I also had a massage on Sunday. :D I got it from Joseph, the fabulous massage therapist who I used to see regularly when I lived here before. That is one great perk of living at Julia's: being able for him to use the treatment room. There's something marvelous about getting a massage without having to go anywhere! I also had a major library run, taking back loads of movies and some books and picking up a slew of unfortunately heavy books to bring home in my backpack. I'm currently reading The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman, a book I'm borrowing from a work colleague, amazingly enough. I've also started my second major tome by Jared Diamond, his perhaps more famous one, Guns, Germs and Steel. It's pretty interesting stuff, and great reading while on the bus and train. I will say that walking to the bus and it being light outside was quite novel— and much appreciated. I did agree to switch back to the early shift for Wednesday to accommodate a fellow CSR's doctor appointment. One day of doing the early shift again won't be too bad. I'm really enjoying my work. I still have plenty to learn, and I'm not always as fast as others, but I'm already pretty savvy about what's going on and I know that my actual interactions with clients is professional and personable. I am weighing out options about whether to stay at Julia's for more than another month or to get serious about finding something much closer to my job. It's not as black and white as it could be, and there are many positives as well as many negatives to both— and an unfortunate amount of psychological elements to it, some of which really do make me want to move out again so as not to deal with them. The universe has been incredibly good to me in recent months; I trust that will continue.

Lastly, I uploaded my Yuletide fic. Yay!! Perhaps I'll do some more writing on my Tolkien stories over Christmas, as well as while on the bus. Speaking of, I had another of my "Wow, I really do love this city/area" moments while crossing the river this morning, seeing the mist on the hills and loving that I can get around everywhere I need to on public transportation. That's pretty cool. :)

Today's interview was rather a downer; the job was quite misrepresented to my mind, and I'm not at all sorry that I didn't get a follow up call to continue what was going to be a 3-part interview process. Urg. On the plus side, I got a fair amount of writing done on my Gimli story while on buses and trains and hanging out in a bookstore because I got out to the suburban location a good hour early. Another major plus was my lunch with [livejournal.com profile] evannichols yesterday. We had scrumptious fish and chips (and they were even healthy! in some kind of healthy rice oil or somesuch!) and a wonderful conversation. I'm so happy to be back in a place where I actually have friends within a 10 mile radius. Not only that, but this evening my roommate included me in going out to dinner with her and her brother (visiting until Friday) for Vietnamese soup (something I've never had) as a thank you for picking up super inexpensive tickets to the Symphony tonight since I have an Oregon Trail card and can get tickets for $5 apiece. She paid for them, but this was my second attempt to get them as my buses were late last Friday and my window of time wasn't large enough. And I got my Yuletide assignment! ♥ I'm quite excited and will be picking up the book I'll be drawing my material from from the library tomorrow. I wonder if I can re-read it super quickly or just skim… Saturday night I had another nice long conversation with my gentleman friend in NZ. Tonight I'm going to hopefully get my wireless router all set up and then will be able to Skype away with video. Amazing how far the technology has come. I remember saving up to call my friends in Australia on their birthdays, and now I can chat with someone across the world and it not cost me a dime. Phenomenal.

Last night I had the good fortune of bedding down not just with Stan, but also Kitty Boy. Unfortunately I was finding it difficult to get to sleep, and when I glanced over at my clock and saw it was 1:30 a.m. I did give serious thought to going and getting a pill to help, but that would have involved getting up, and I had cats curled up on both sides of my legs. So I decided to wait it out and eventually I did fall asleep. Having the cats and particularly Stan back in my life are such a joy— Taffy had definitely decided to be my fast friend at my parents', but I've always been a cat person first and foremost and Stan had adopted me when I lived here last and he's taken up with me again now that I'm back. There's something so incredibly marvelous about having a decent sized cat sprawled out on my chest, one paw stretched out over my shoulder under the covers while going to sleep. :)

This week I've continued in my daily job search and have picked up another interview on Monday plus a modeling gig this Saturday, the 29th and December 9th. I also got my food benefits straightened out (there had been some issues between Oregon and Virginia but it's all settled now) and will do a job meeting of some sort with the benefits office as part of getting the food help. Seeing as how I'm already incredibly driven and tenacious about this stuff, that's not an issue, but it turns out that they'll give me some bus tickets to help with my search. YAY!!! Because at $5 a pop for a full day pass, that is a huge help.

The vintage cardigan I'm knitting is coming along so quickly! The back and fronts are done and I've started on the sleeves. Pictures soon to come. I'm also enjoying writing on my Gimli story; I checked out The Annotated Hobbit from the library as I have him going up to Erebor post-WR and details about the dwarves up there is found in The Hobbit, not really LotR. And my copy of The Hobbit is back in VA, along with other books I wish now I'd packed, but I'll get back eventually. Speaking of writing, today I signed up for Yuletide, and now am nervous about what I'll be asked to write. I opted not to sign up for His Dark Materials or True Blood since that's what I've written in Yuletides past, so we'll see who I get paired up with. :) And having just picked a Secret of Kells icon, I'm realizing I should have nominated that as a fandom! Surely gapfiller fanfic could be written for it. Next year, I suppose. ;)

… this will be pretty brief in that I'm thrilled that you will write in any of the fandoms I've requested. Truly. If you picked Mary Renault's Alexander trilogy, Lord John Grey or Swordspoint, I would love something slashy and it can be as explicit as you're comfortable with. For Game of Thrones, any kind of gapfiller would be great. I hope that you enjoy whatever fandom you were paired with and if you had multiple options, then we must have similar interests and that's wonderful! I really don't have much else in the way of guidelines; I love meaty stories but there's a short timeline, so anything you're inspired to write will be a treat for me to read. Thank you in advance! ♥

I'll be brief- first and foremost, thank you for writing for me! Whichever fandom we had in common, I hope that you have fun writing it and are delighted rather than disappointed. And whatever fandom you write in that I requested, I'll be exceedingly grateful. As is obvious in my request, I'm a slash fan, but you needn't necessarily go that route if you're uncomfortable with it. I'm far more interested in character development and wordcraft, though of course some scorchingly hot interaction between any of the slash pairings I mentioned is welcomed. I do have an aversion to epithets, writing in the present tense, and fluff. For someone who knows well what I like in regards to the four fandoms I requested, [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5 is the one to consult.

Mostly, I do hope that you're looking forward to writing whatever you do! For what it's worth, the person I was paired with has requested something I'd never considered writing about and I think it's going to be quite an adventure. Thank you again for writing for me. I'll very much look forward to whatever you've selected!

Dear generous soul who will be writing for me:

You marvelous person, you! This is my first time participating in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and I'm so very excited. I can't wait to see what you write; the fact that you're writing in any of the fandoms I listed is just fabulous. My suggestions are just that, but if you would LIKE to hear more about what I love most and/or especially want to see, for inspirational purposes or whatever, just leave me an anonymous comment like "Yes, please give me suggestions" and I'll tell you. DON'T NAME A FANDOM! I'll provide details for all three I requested because I want to be surprised. Likewise for any questions you have; I'm happy to answer anything for you to help you out, just leave comments here anonymously.

In general what I love is character interaction and characterization. I'm a writer of a lot of erotica/pr0n, but even my few PWPs are couched within actual relationships and (hopefully!) fully-fleshed characters. Genfic is perfectly acceptable; truthfully, I'm just beside myself to get something.

Happy writing!! ♥
