thrihyrne: (Boromir life is good)

I've never done anything like this, which is probably why I'm doing it. While the Ron/Draco fests are still ongoing and not posting, I'm working on a sequel to Just Shy of Forever and I have a lot of fun visual imagery coming. The above image is from 500px, JohnatAPW. The teaser is a gift of invitation and self-exploration from Luna Lovegood to Ron.
thrihyrne: (Boromir life is good)
I've not been able to say something like that in what seems like (and could well be) years. I guess since my last story for Yuletide. A few months ago it was suggested to me that I go look at [livejournal.com profile] ron_draco_fest and I did, and I thought, "Well, perhaps a brand new spin on a pairing that I thought I'd written all I could about is the way to kick-start my Muse and writing creativity." And, it's worked! I'm a week late, and embarrassed, especially since it's not even 8000 words and I used to blow those out in no time back in the day. But I like the story, and for the first time I enlisted [livejournal.com profile] evannichols as a second beta. My loyal friend [livejournal.com profile] emansil_12 (who guided me to this fest) served as the first. In some ways this is an unexpected dream come true; when I was married, especially when I was first in the throes of writing, I'd really wanted my wasband to edit and say how great I was and want to delve into my writing as much as I was. That didn't happen. It got pretty ugly.

But now I'm in a relationship that is different from that one on an amazing number of profound levels, and one of them is that we honestly do enjoy reading each other's works, and editing for one another.

The reveal and posting for the Ron/Draco fest isn't until March, so now that that's off my plate, I figure I'll focus on reading and knitting for a few weeks. Though I think I'll jump on Evan's bandwagon of 'closure' for this year and I'll finish that fun, long Gimli-centric fic, as well as a Finduilas/Denethor fic that's languished for 2 years now. ::headdesk::
thrihyrne: (K is for Kristi)
This week has been more exotic than usual in that [livejournal.com profile] evannichols has been home sick as of Thursday. It seems to be a cold that started out as congestion and head swimmy-ness and some coughing and then settled into a chest cold. Much better that than the flu or somesuch. It meant that during my more conventional-hours workdays on Thurs and Fri I was able to come out during breaks and lunch and check up on him, converse, and have company. I really enjoyed it, even though the only reason he was home was because he was/is under the weather.

I'm resisting whatever it is, though in a random act of just experiencing life, I whacked the crap out of my pinkie toe yesterday morning on the edge of the bed. Picture below. I may have fractured it, hard to say and frankly, not really much to be done about it. I'm icing it again this morning and will not be picking up my jogging again until it has a chance to heal. I've not actively limped in ages, but yesterday Evan and I did get out of the apartment to run (well, walk very slowly) some errands in the nearby blocks. We were quite the pair: Evan sniffling and sneezing and coughing, me hobbling along and not at all at my usual Thev-speed, which is At Speed.

bruised toe :( )

I'm off in a little bit, borrowing Evan's car Ian to get more tissues and to swing by the bank. Then my 1-10 shift, then two days of jury duty! Something entirely new and different. I'll be well prepared for tedium, should there be any: my composition notebook to work on my Ron/Draco, a new issue of Vanity Fair, and a knitting project on circular needles. Yee haw!

Oh, and I filed my taxes yesterday. I'll be happily anticipating my refunds.
thrihyrne: (hand written letter writer)
For the first time since this time last year, this morning I retrieved one of my composition notebooks and began writing on a new fic. This is all thanks to my beloved [livejournal.com profile] emansil_12. At the end of our conversation on Wednesday, she suggested that since I'd missed out on signing up for Yuletide, I just might consider looking at the prompts available for the [livejournal.com profile] ron_draco_fest 2013. I said I would, and now, two days later, I've claimed a prompt and started writing on it. I'm quietly thrilled. Don't really know how the story will meander, but I have my ideas and I'm going to see where R/D will take me in this new story, unrelated to any 'verses I've created in the past. In looking at my own website, it appears that the last one-shot R/D I wrote was done in July of 2011. So not as long ago as I'd imagined. Still, yay. ::welcomes Muse with open arms::

In other news, this week has been particularly wonderful in that I've had several conversations with friends that have me feeling far less isolated than I did a few days ago. I'm realizing that that will be key once Evan and I are living together and I'm alone all day working, with no pets for company. I do have my follow-up about my trial period for work with my former team lead; my leads changed in the midst of this scrutiny, and all I can do is see how this plays out.

But I feel marvelous. Happy Friday, all. ♥

Title: Admittance
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Rating: Hard R?
Warnings: Sexual content- hand job. AU.
Word count: 4,210
Beta: My tremendous thanks to Emansil_08
Summary: After a suicide attempt gone awry, what could make Draco's unexpected life any worse? Being forced to share a hospital room with Ron.
A/N: I honestly can't believe it's been six months since I've posted fic of any kind, but that's how this year has been thus far. This was written for the gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar who took me up on a prompt request several weeks ago. I hope you enjoy this little foray back into a pairing world I have loved so much.

Title: You and Me and the Rain Make Three
Team: Ron
Prompt: Forbidden
Length: 3,340 words
Rating: Hard R
Warnings/notes: Blowjob, angst, major character death. This fic isn't totally without hope, but it does address a very real issue for many people. Massive thanks to my two betas, [livejournal.com profile] brumeux77 and [livejournal.com profile] liriaen. This was written for [livejournal.com profile] ficadron and while I totally lost in voting between the two stories, I realized I'd not posted it at my own LJ, so here it is.
Summary: Two things are exceedingly unnatural to Ron: being sober, and finding himself attracted to Draco Malfoy. But maybe he can get used to both, if given a chance…

I'm a bit late this year and realize this is mostly for my own record-keeping, but for those who might be curious or are here to read in particular fandoms, here is my 2009 summary of fics by fandom. Links are also included; most of them are to posts at my LJ, but there are a few that go elsewhere where you can leave a comment should you be so inclined. ;) The one totally new element was writing in another author's original fiction fandom, The Slave Breakers by [livejournal.com profile] maculategiraffe. I ended up being quite captivated as you'll see from the no fewer than the eight stories and some drabbles I wrote in that fandom alone. I also wrote a few Tolkien slash stories (I've written nearly all genfics in my Tolkien writing prior to this year), but for the most part they didn't prove to be all that popular.

In addition to the stories listed below, the major story that I worked on, but which is still with Storm Constantine, is my Wraeththu novella "Maelstrom and Mage". I did a major revision on it in 2009, then received Storm's many helpful suggestions and comments and rewrote 7/10 of it. She's had it since the end of October but in publishing, nothing happens quickly. So one story which occupied much of my creative energies is not public yet. Hopefully it will be published by her company, Immanion Press, in this coming year. That's really my one major aspiration for 2010: to see that novella in print.

By fandom, in chronological order within each fandom, here's what I wrote in 2009 )

So there they all are! Not including M+M, I wrote and published around 145K words this past year. If I include the M+M rewrite and revision it's closer to 200K, which has been my norm over the past few years. That said, I will be stepping away from fanfiction, at least that's what I say now. There are some personal things I'll be working on, but doubtless I'll continue to write and post in at least a couple of fandoms from time to time.

To my readers, thank you for your comments and encouragement over the past year.

I'm a few days late m'dear, and it's short, but I hope you like this wee gift of fic.

Author's Notes Lack of angst! Massive thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins for looking this over and giving feedback! There were lots of great fics written for [livejournal.com profile] rd_challenge. And to my exceeding shock (especially since it was long), well, I seem to have won the angst category.

Unbelievable.
Guess I'll post it now, here. It's longish, so it'll probably be a few posts.

Title: A Place Like Tomorrow
Rating: NC-17

How you try to fit in but you can't.
How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside."

Summary: Sanity is a very thin tightrope; Ron only discovers this once he's taken several steps.
Author Notes: My immense gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] callumjames and [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins for their betas and insights. Bill's condition in this is AU in that he does change into a wolf at the full moon.

I've missed writing Ron/Draco and to remedy that, I wrote a couple of drabbles for the [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble community. The drabbles are below, both of them set in my Like Wine Through Water universe; both are set within the story before they've actually gotten together.

It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

Wraeththu
All of my Wraeththu fics can be found here at my website. You can't leave reviews, but for the first fic below, I do have it saved as a pdf there, and there are pictures of 'Castlegar' as well as some other yummy pictures.
§ Maelstrom and Mage, Desire Thine Darkling
49,083 words; Ashmael/Vaysh and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu [where you can leave a review! ;) ] or here as a pdf file to download.

§ Down the Whispering Well
44,523 words; Vaysh/Ashmael and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu. I didn't get around to making a pdf of this one, though maybe I will soon.

§ Passion's Acolyte
3,015 words; Cal/Swift, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Interpret Me the Savage Whirr
6,198 words; Seel/Ashmael, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Quare Clausum Fregit (Wherefore he broke the close)
3,364 words; Vaysh/OC [Yazdyar, from 'Down the Whispering Well'], adult
Available here on LJ and here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Mere Trifles
1,723 words; Seel/Swift (not adult), Cobweb
Available here at Forever Wraeththu or here at my website. I don't seem to have ever posted it at my LJ!

§ Swooping to Landward
13,800 words; Chithra/Lemuel (OCs), a study of Fioan/Colurastes cultural interaction, adult
Available here on LJ (link is to part one) or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ After the Storm, Restless Fire
4,979 words; Ithiel/Cobweb and Ithiel/Terzian, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Reap the Wild Wind
24,402 words; Kelp/Blackspur, Kelp/Hunt (OCs), adult
Link to the first post on my LJ here, or you can read the whole thing here at my website. It hasn't yet been uploaded to Forever Wraeththu.

§ Libertine
389 words; Terzian, PG-13
Available here at my LJ

A few Wraeththu drabbles written along the way are here at my website

Harry Potter
§ Cloudscape of Ravens
18,030 words; Ron/OC, Ron/Severus, adult
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust Ron-centric fest I hosted with a lot of help. The link there is locked to ensure no-one underage in the community got to it, but you can read it here at my website or here at Skyehawke if you'd care to leave a review.

§ No Shame, This Life, Beloved
14,792 words; Ron/Draco, adult; in all likelihood, the last story in the "Magic Immunity" story arc.
Available here at my LJ

§ A Rally Toward Exalted Moments
5,567 words; Harry/Charlie, adult
Available here at my LJ or here at the [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest community

§ Scotch Game
9,144 words; Ron/Remus, adult
Available here at my LJ; it's locked at the [livejournal.com profile] remus_ron_slash community to prevent underage folks from reading it there.

§ The Sensibility of Wantonness
3,181 words; Ron/Draco ["Crown of Rope" universe], adult
Available here at my LJ

I also seem to have written a slew of various drabbles by request on a few different days. Rather than organize them, there are a bunch of requested HP drabbles here (some Wraeththu, too, but I put them on my website), a rare het Ron/Hermione drabble here and Ron/Charlie drabble from the vampire!Charlie incest story I wrote a year or so ago for [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins

I also have one lingering WIP, a Dean/Ron for the very patient Callum James. I actually printed out what I had when I was at his flat in England in October, and I really will finish it. It's just taken a back burner, to my chagrin.

Swordspoint
These are nearly all drabbles, though I think I did write a vignette. LOL. I've written a lot this year and can't keep it all straight! Hence the annual wrap-up.

Basil's Banquet, Fall of the Kings drabble
Untitled Richard/Alec drabble
Revenge Effloresces, Richard/Alec drabble

Hmmmm. Thought I'd written more Swordspoint than that; I think I just wish I had!

Lord of the Rings
Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Untitled Halbarad-centric drabble
Alliances, Gimli-centric
Untitled Gimli-centric drabble
Untitled Éowyn-centric drabble
Untitled Celeborn/Aragorn drabble, adult
Another untitled Gimli-centric drabble

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.

I wanted to be one of the first to wish you birthday greetings! You've been with me a long time now... thank you for being such a devoted fan of my Ron/Draco writings, for our three-way email conversations with [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea, for the many cards you've sent over time, for letting me beta for you, and for being a true, caring, affectionate, talented, one of a kind friend in my life. This is only a small thing, but it's R/D for you. I hope you enjoy. XOXOX

Title: The Sensibility of Wantonness
Rating: NC-17
Alerts/Warnings: Rimming, shibari, a distinct lack of angst ;)
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] callumjames [smooches]
Author's Notes: Set within my 'Crown of Rope' universe; PWP. The concept of Draco posing for a set of photographs to do with Scandinavian mythology comes from Theron and his tattoo and the artist for whom he poses in The Fall of the Kings by Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman.
Summary: Draco invites Ron to an art show of a student for whom he's been posing as Baldr, a Norse figure of myth. Ron finds he's unexpectedly moved by the portraits and gives Draco a night to remember.

Darling!! Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] liriaen, whom I first met over at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble and discovered in her a fellow R/D lover and a writer whose beautiful and often unexpected turns of phrase and imagery astounds me more than I can sometimes fathom; English isn't her first language. That she is so eloquent in two langauges (at least!) is inspiring and humbling. With a wicked sense of humor and boundless talent, I'm so glad that I've gotten to know you a bit more beyond your words to your life in Germany.

So for you, using this week's prompt at the community where I first found you, here's 100 words of adjective-heavy R/D PWP for you. Many, many happy returns! And hopefully the card I sent will get to you fairly soon. ;)

I'm at home, as my knight in armor, [livejournal.com profile] pghpatronus, has come down with the flu, so I'm not travelling to visit with him and [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley. We're all disappointed that we won't get to see each other, and I hope that PGH gets well soon. He's on some serious meds, and I'm in a funk.

So! This time of year is a good time to look back. I can't really begin to comprehend how incredibly painful, anger- and anxiety-ridden this year has been for me in RL, so instead, here's the listing of the stories I've written, the various new and old pairings and life experiences I explored through writing as an escape and/or written alternative to my own situations out in the world. Despite the very, very challenging year, I've written a lot that I'm proud of, and hope that you who are readers of my fic, have enjoyed at least one or two of my output from 2007.

fic listing, in chronological order )

The ones I'm most proud of? Probably the Ron/Dean Vermilion Hunger, Cerulean Thirst; Strange-Eyed Constellation (a rare trio if ever there was one!); Strife from the Furthest Prime, and Crown of Rope. Here's to an equally creative outpouring in 2008. For those of you who continue to read and enjoy my stories and let me know, my heartfelt thanks to you. To those who read my stories and lurk, thank you for that as well. And to my many betas, I so appreciate your insights and enthusiasm. With each story I hope that I'm honing my craft, and one of my planned intentions is to spread my wings a bit out beyond fanfic this next year. I'd hoped to do that in 2007, but it wasn't to be. Still, as I look back at what I did contribute to the Harry Potter fandom in 2007, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Thank you all for bothering to take the time to read my often long-ish fics, and to let me know what you thought.
