I've not been able to say something like that in what seems like (and could well be) years. I guess since my last story for Yuletide. A few months ago it was suggested to me that I go look at ron_draco_fest and I did, and I thought, "Well, perhaps a brand new spin on a pairing that I thought I'd written all I could about is the way to kick-start my Muse and writing creativity." And, it's worked! I'm a week late, and embarrassed, especially since it's not even 8000 words and I used to blow those out in no time back in the day. But I like the story, and for the first time I enlisted evannichols as a second beta. My loyal friend emansil_12 (who guided me to this fest) served as the first. In some ways this is an unexpected dream come true; when I was married, especially when I was first in the throes of writing, I'd really wanted my wasband to edit and say how great I was and want to delve into my writing as much as I was. That didn't happen. It got pretty ugly.

But now I'm in a relationship that is different from that one on an amazing number of profound levels, and one of them is that we honestly do enjoy reading each other's works, and editing for one another.

The reveal and posting for the Ron/Draco fest isn't until March, so now that that's off my plate, I figure I'll focus on reading and knitting for a few weeks. Though I think I'll jump on Evan's bandwagon of 'closure' for this year and I'll finish that fun, long Gimli-centric fic, as well as a Finduilas/Denethor fic that's languished for 2 years now. ::headdesk::

Yes! Still in England, barely made it through this evening's Evensong due to my voice going out. Have made a lovely friend of the tour guide at the York Brewery. Ate way too much at dinner tonight and I feel vile. I'm still sick, though getting better. The problem is that rather than being really congested but my singing voice was fine (2 days ago) now I'm less congested and my singing voice was shot. Tomorrow is our fourth and final singing event. I'm hoping beyond hope to have full vocal quality again.

So… has some kind soul recently recc'ed my (by default) older Ron/Draco stories? All of a sudden I seem to have a couple of new readers (and reviewers! *gasp*) on Skyehawke, and figured there might be a reason for that, and it wasn't simply that somebody stumbled across the mass amounts of R/D I wrote a while back…

More soon. And I am uploading some pictures; once I get a few more up I'll post a link to the gallery and let you all see what I've taken with my new camera since the other fun lime green one seems to have gone totally missing. :( Now I have an orange camera. :)

I'm participating in a new R/D challenge this year, and they've made banners to pimp the upcoming voting! There are three categories and in order to vote, you must vote for each story in the category you've selected for your vote to count and to ensure there's no favoritism. However, please don't be intimidated: this is my OTP, Ron/Draco, not Harry/Draco where there would be dozens of stories. Would that there were, though! :P



There are a couple of other folks on my flist also participating in this, and I'm just so excited that there will be at least a few new R/D stories. I'm thrilled that I got to beta a couple, too, and I'll be excited to see readers' comments about them.

It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.
