thrihyrne: (K is for Kristi)
I was over at my LJ, deleting the masses of spam and screened messages that had filtered through and decided to scan any posts with the tag 'fic' to see if I could ferret out more of those damn 'suspicious/spam/screened' messages. I could, and did, and while doing so, came across a story I'd written in 2009 and could not even BEGIN to remember what it was about, why I'd written it, much less that actually I'd won in an angst category for it. That was only four years ago! And now that I think about it, the whole monk story of Tsobias and Kallym and my other khorites was written in 2010, so it hasn't really been all that long since I've been writing.

It just feels like forever since I was swept away by a story I was driven to write. I'm packing my newly-acquired copy of Unfinished Tales and my composition notebook to go with me on this let's-go-to-headquarters workweek I have in San Francisco, leaving tomorrow evening. I'm really planning to take some time in the evenings (and maybe mornings) to write and just do it every day to get back into the habit. And hopefully to get caught up in this story that seems not to want me to abandon it. I also hope I'm not putting way too many expectations on it or myself. I'm not doing my huge re-read and edit of the Wraeththu novel until July when I'm at the Oregon coast for a week with Evan's family. Plenty of concentrated downtime then to sit and do that all in a nice big chunk.

I was just a bit taken aback that I had to re-read "A Place Like Tomorrow" to remember what it was about, what on earth I was working through at the time to have come up with it… my stories about Frealas and Morwen Steelsheen from my early Tolkien days seem like they were written by someone else.

Perhaps it is time to put the knitting needles down for a little while and get back to my purple ink pens.

So I've been guiding the conversation classes for two weeks now, and I'm getting into the groove of them. There's a different set of people each time, anywhere from 8 to 13 people, depending on who shows up. Yesterday our topic was food, which ended up being a lot of fun. We even had a short field trip to a nearby international grocery store, looking at the fruits and vegetables, as well as the diverse array of things in cans, noodles, soft drinks, and sauces. Next Tuesday is finances, which will perhaps be less fun, but certainly is something that everyone needs to know.

I've been working exclusively on the knitted sugar glider over the past week- even though I'm pretty close to being finished with the second sleeve on my cardigan.

I got the beta on my Ron/Draco as well, but I'd like to think about a couple of her suggestions before posting it. I'd also like to get back to writing on the Tolkien story, though with family coming to visit, I'm not sure how much writing I'll get done this weekend. Maybe Sunday evening I can dedicate to that. True to before, when mowing the lawn (as I did this morning) I had thoughts come to me about the story, which always helps.

In an unrelated topic, I was in a chat this morning and the subject was about courage. As part of it, the moderator suggested writing down a fear to be overcome, then list 10 variations of what could happen if this fear was approached, with the #1 variation being the least anxiety producing to #10, which would be the most anxiety producing. The idea is then to set a goal to achieve item #1 in the list, and slowly work your way through, eventually eliminating the fear through experience and/or research. I've recently written down a list of 30 things I want: want to have, want to experience, want to have present in my life, and as a part of that, I think I'll focus on one that I may be held back from pursuing due to fear. Especially a concrete want, though many things I wrote down were fairly general/esoteric.

With that, I'm off to watch something and make 'fur' on the wings of the sugar-glider. :)

Well, the big news for me is that the most recent issue of Filament magazine is not only one that features red headed males, but it also has my article! I can't wait to get my author copy. I'll be buying a few extras as well, no doubt. :)

Also, when I was chatting with one of my Furious Flower colleagues, part of my dream from last night came to me, and I was a vampire! But I was hanging out with two other vampires, and while there was a little bit of feeding, it hurt, and not in a good way. Hmmmm. I haven't even watched True Blood in a couple of weeks. In fact, thanks to a recommendation from [livejournal.com profile] persephone100, I downloaded and watched Shaun of the Dead, a silly British zombie movie that was so non-believable and schticky even I could watch it.

In a first for me for the holiday season, as part of the three exchanges I'm involved in, I'm writing three stories: one pre-slash, one gen, and one… het. What is wrong with the universe? I miss my monks and/or writing good 'ol PWP slash. Maybe in the new year. That said, two of the three are essentially done, and I really grooved on writing the Tolkien one.

Glad to be on the other side of the Thanksgiving holidays. For Christmas, as an unintentional gift to me, my parents will be going up to NYC to hang out with grandchildren. I'll take care of the pets and watch over the house. :D And stay in comfy clothes, unless I have to work at Panera, which is highly possible. My thanks to those I chatted with over the holidays and helped me to keep my sanity when things were a bit on the desperate side. ♥
