Same rules apply for the first one: be considerate, be as honest as you can be, as long or short as you wish. Filament often talks about the female gaze, and the fact that women enjoy looking at men and men's bodies, not just reading about them. In regards to slash, thinking about characters with an inner eye to their bodies (written slash), or true visuals (fan art or videos), would you say that your enjoyment is more about sensuality or sexuality? Does it vary depending on the fandom and/or pairing? And the key question: do you know why you're drawn to slash? Are you someone who reads/looks at all ratings of slash, or only particular ones? If so, which?

Thanks so much for helping me out with this. I question these things myself, so I'm thrilled to be able to put some of these thoughts down and into a non-fandom centric readership. :)

I think it does depend on the medium. When reading written slash, sensuality plays the larger role. A writer may provide a lovely physical description of the characters, but it’s the innate nature of their relationship, how they move together and touch each other, that makes the slash scenes come alive for me. I want to know how the characters feel. I want to experience the moment with them.

With movies, artwork and manga, I’m still more drawn to sensuality. Raw sex without emotion or meaning is porn. I need to see that the characters are deeply immersed in the experience, that they revel in the touch of their lovers’ fingertips and the warmth of their kisses. Sexuality, though, does play a larger role for me in a visual medium than in literature. I’ll watch a movie with a paper-thin plot if it has a lovely sex scene. I won’t wade through a murky book just for a few pages of hot sex, though.

I read all ratings of slash and yaoi manga, and I watch hardcore porn. I prefer the ones that feature partners of equal size, social standing and intellect. For me, watching them come together is half the fun. The coupling itself doesn’t have to be hardcore. I’m happy with a sweet kiss, as long as there is some resolution. Sometimes, though, I just want to see a good fuck. Fandoms and pairings don’t matter much to me, as long as both males are over the age of consent.
