[livejournal.com profile] shelliz14 has joined the LJ crowd. She who was formerly known as "college best friend" now has her own LJ, and I couldn't be more pleased. We went to Sewanee, The University of the South together in a more gentle time known as the late 80's when girls wore Laura Ashley and people left their cars unlocked and we learned all kinds of stuff in a liberal arts school on top of a mountain.

Now we're a bit older, perhaps a smidge more jaded, and she isn't into fandom like I am, but that's okay. History means a lot in a friendship, and that we have.

Welcome!! :D

Thanks!

And welcomed I feel! Although I am not into fandom, I do like the secret language that you all share. Good talk this morning. Thanks, friend!

We didn't wear Laura Ashley, did we? It hardly seems like us. I did buy a Laura Ashley while we were in Windsor on CT, but we had graduated by then. I wonder if I still have that dress . . . We are long overdue for a moonbathing session on top of the art building. Now I am going to be reminiscing all afternoon!

Well, no. I didn't, but I do distinctly remember you getting that Laura Ashley dress and matching hat during our choir tour!! :)

Here's a welcome from me too!!

when girls wore Laura Ashley

lol! So true, I was about 4 in the late 80s, and all I wore was Laura Ashley. My mom and I had plenty of matching dresses ;-) *hides head in shame*

girls wore Laura Ashley in the late 80s? damn, another fashion statement I missed out on. (All I remember of the late 80s is being very pregnant for a bitand wearing HUGE t-shirts with really straight legged maternity jeans)...

Aw.... Well, see, Sewanee has/had a dress code: women wore skirts or dresses to class (or nice pants) and guys wore coat and tie, plus once you became a gownsman (sporting a particularly high GPA) you wore an academic gown to class. Really. It's a pretty amazing institution. Very "we wish we were British but this is as close as we can get" kindof feel, complete with stone buildings. There was a lot of Laura Ashley going on back then, though I couldn't really stand it. I tended more toward plaid than flowers. ;)

I wore some pretty bizarre clothes in the early 80's, I must say; prided myself on it, in fact. I think I was one of the less conservative dressers at Sewanee, though not as far out as some. We crossed over into the early 90's as well, and they started paving the paths we all used that chewed up our shoes, put in lampposts, and even provided phones for everybody. And air conditioning. It had been delightfully rustic when we showed up in the fall of '88.

I don't remember the rule about the nice pants, but I do remember that once you got the gown you could wear whatever you wished under it, as that stood as your dress code. But, alas, by the time I got mine (Advent semester Junior year), the dress code was such a habit that I was stuck. I did wear inappropriate clothing under my choir vestments, though. Ah, the memories.

And thanks for letting everyone know how old we are. For the record, you will always be older, my dearest friend. ;-) Although we are both glorious in our mid-thirties-ness!

Get out your 1992 yearbook.

Now. Please place it in your lap as we go down memory lane.

And for the record, you got your gown before I did. Or maybe not. I just know that I was gowned by Tim Wahlers. Were we gowned at the same time? Must've been. I think that there's a pic of me when I got my gown. Just sec.

***insert Kristi looking at yearbooks time here***

Well, for our senior year, I see at least one pic of you on page 220 with scary Sara Tindal, even scarier pic of Andy&Beth on page 219, (who allowed them to have children, anyway??)), a gorgeous picture of Honor on page 205 (with Lee Daffron Cogburn Walsh looking perplexed, and... oh. your ex-guy is there. It was the re-creation pic from our freshman year. Gorgeous. *insert sarcasm here*)... go to page 152. There we are...why aren't you in this picture? Even Geoff is in the picture, quasi-third from the left, in the quasi-third row. I'm kneeling in the middle of the front row (so shameless, who could have known??). I really should cut my hair. And can I ever look that young again? Even at 22?

Page 122. Greeks. GTUs. If only I had that all to do over. Should have been with you lot from the beginning.

Whoops. Pic of Deej on page 118. Some terrible G&S we did that year. ARRRGGGH! He made such a pirate, didn't he?

Chi Psis. (whoops) pg. 116 (though aside from gorgeous eyes, there wasn't that much to pursue)

Betas. (whoops) pg. 114 (Any man that I date who has thinner thighs than mine was bound to end in a dismal failure)

More whoops. The ADT page. Page 108. Page 109. The person I gowned. And haven't heard from in a decade. :P

And then, page 78.

YOU.

Who could love you, in a friends-only mode, like I do?

&hearts:

Welcome to LJ. It's my usual form of communication. Now you're beyond the filter. *smacks self for literary presumption*

It's so good to have you here.

Goodness

You might need a hobby, sister! (Total sarcasm!)

How much would I have liked to curl up on the futon with a mug of coffee and looked at the 1992 yearbook with you? We are totally doing that next visit - although I may have to brave the deep recesses of my basement to find mine!

The G&S was Yeoman of the Guard, and if you think that picture of Deej is horrific, I have one of me all wigged up for that show that would make you giggle for a week.

I think that every man I ever dated had smaller thighs than I do - when I found one who didn't, I married him!

You should have been with me in the Greeks or I should have been with you? Maybe we just should have swapped. I would bet that I would no longer pass the entrance exam for GTU.

You are somewhat funny in this medium, my dear. Or maybe that is the week o'solitude mania kicking in.

Sara wasn't scary. I roomed with her in England because SOMEONE (insert eye rolling HERE) wanted to room with her sorority sister . . . I can hold a grudge longer than Madge Ann, missy. In fact, you never wanted to room with me on tour. I think that I will take that personally.

I was gowned by Liz Evans (GLORIOUS in her Redness!). Very interesting to me, that. She and I were just not that close. I think she was a PKE, no? It seems like I gowned someone, but I have no idea now who it was. Things that make me go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

My ex (alas, I know who you mean, I really only have the one, don't I?) is in a picture with Honor and Lee Daffron C-W? That is the random pic of 1992!! Did he even know Lee Daffron C-W? She always struck me as one who would spell Lee L-e-i-g-h, you know?

BTW, Katie Kodak HATED me for some reason. I don't know why. I am in very few pics. I am surprised that you found that many pictures of me in the annual.

Can you look that young again? Sweetness, you haven't aged at all in 15 years. You still wear the same size, you still look gorgeous. Always, always, always.

Really, you like this better than the (dare I say it here?) phone? I think that my personality translates better to phone.

K told me that you all had posted a welcome. Thank you very much! I think of you often, and M, now that I have my own walls (and lots of them), I think of that gorgeous painting of the tree - the one you did Sr. year, I believe - with the fabulous pastels. I regularly beat myself for not buying that painting. Rarely has a piece spoken to me so vividly. Would LOVE to see you guys! GNG
