My dear Cel, this is for you. 'Tis belated, but no less heartfelt.

Arithmancy.
Ancient Runes.
Hermione’s head spun as quickly as the golden time-turner covertly clutched in her hand. She stopped suddenly while throngs of other students hurtled around her, a solitary buoy in a sea of robe-billowing black.
Where am I supposed to be? she asked herself, panic attempting to seep in before she batted it away.
Look it up.
She thrust a hand into her satchel, grabbing at her calendar.
Tuesday.
One o’clock.
Hermione inhaled deeply, reassured at the answer.
Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Her shoulders slumped, a rare submission to fatigue.
Maybe it was too much.

Date: 2004-12-23 10:05 pm (UTC)Thank you, thank you! Not at all belated - it's arrived before Christmas Day, no? And I may celebrate in secular fashion, but I do celebrate it.
Very Hermione - she would indeed look it up. This is why I love Hermione...

Date: 2004-12-23 10:25 pm (UTC)Hermione is my hidden secret love... she ends up making an appearance in almost every one of my George/Remus stories, just because she's so, well, clever. And gorgeous.
And constantly under-estimated. Which is why it's so fun to include her. Because aren't we all under-estimated??
Or maybe you aren't, and that would be a wonderful thing. I'm going to write all of my LJ/fandom/real friends cards tomorrow, so keep your eyes on your mailbox, though the card won't get there before Christmas, lol.
So glad that you liked your drabble! I wrote it this morning when the power was out. Very inspiring. :P

Date: 2004-12-23 10:32 pm (UTC)Oh, I think so! Sometimes, at least. ;-)
You watch your mailbox too... the holiday letter went out on, um, Tuesday I think, so it might even get there tomorrow if luck is with me.
I love Hermione at least partly because she is who I was in school. Too clever for her own good, and not pretty (though I like film!Hermione, she's a little too attractive).
Have a splendid holiday (in case I don't "see" you again before the 25th)!

Date: 2004-12-23 10:51 pm (UTC)And right on about Hermione. Film!Hermione isn't too far from the mark, I don't think, but as someone else pointed out, her hair seems to get straighter and straighter as the movies go on. I do love movie!Percy, since you can see the blemishes on his skin. Yay adolescense.
Off to watch DVD. And write. And read. And probably spend an inordinate amount of time sleeping with the cats.
But I'm so glad you liked your drabble! (she wrote, typing with a SpongeBob SquarePants band-aid on her middle finger) I'm quite proud of this one, as well as the other I wrote for you. Something about being stingy with words and all that. You only have the one scene, and have to impose as much as you can on it.
