Email and H/D update
Nov. 17th, 2004 09:29 amWell, just as hotmail expanded their memory, I acquired a gmail account. But I'd already changed my email address at several archives, so I'm going to go ahead and convert over to gmail. Most of you I correspond with individually, so you'll get a separate email from me, but regardless, please change my address in your email address books to thevina33@gmail.com.
Many, many thanks! :D
And not that you need to re-read this, but "A Private Oratory" has been beta'ed by the generous
Focus for the weekend (aside from having an opera Friday and Saturday): finishing the twinfic (worked on it last night; love the twinses!!) and the latest G/R. And reviewing. I've been so overwhelmed by the fabula rasa story I read that it's hard to come up with a review that's worthy. I wonder: do you, other writers, struggle with writing reviews/fawning 'I loved this story and here's why' when you do submit such to an author? Just curious. Not that I'm a saint or anything- I have read some great stories and not reviewed, but I try not to. Feedback and all. Because we all love feedback, constructive, gushy, or even negative, I suppose.
Must get back to work.
**smooches** to all, yet again, who were so kind about my last checking-in post. RL not so great, but I spoke with my college best friend yesterday and that was incredibly grounding and bolstered my various decisions. Oh! I had a banner mail day two days ago, getting the fabulous/gorgeous CD and letter from
Having a good week.

Date: 2004-11-17 04:33 pm (UTC)I do find it hard on my recs site to come up with things that express the fact that the story is good, really good, yet don't sound like the author's paying me/providing sexual services. I tend to just go for the dry 'highly recommended'. I have to admit I'm a bit uncomfortable with what might be called fannish squeeing in the context of recommendations in particular -- I mean I'd squee at Austen should I get the chance, but that's about as far as I go...
I'm very lazy where it comes to giving feedback directly to the author -- I've had a few bad experiences with what I thought was constructive critique and the author thought was flaming, and I'm rarely moved to write to the author just to say 'I liked your story'. I should do, I suppose; I know I'd value such uncritical comments as an author.

Date: 2004-11-19 01:48 am (UTC)I will say that the individual comments I've received have been gratefully received, and if there was a reciprocal email, I've always emailed back to thank s/he for both taking the time to read, and also to write.
Thanks for your commentary about the subject!!
p.s. I've thought about *squeeing* to Ursula LeGuin, as well. I've been meaning to write her a 'fan letter' on really nice paper for several months. It's just so intimidating! But I bet she wouldn't mind even if it isn't the most eloquent review/fanmail she's ever received.

Date: 2004-11-19 01:52 am (UTC)Must start getting for that Con post-haste. And the one in England. Before I move to Melbourne.
I do believe that you are incredibly snowed under. I almost bought you some Star Wars stickers today at Kroger, but they didn't have our lovely Jedi, so I opted out. :P
Sometime before the New Year, we will get together, I hope!!
Your equally loser friend,
K
p.s. I actually prefer to think of Draco with chest hair.
p.p.s. I'm obviously not a fangirl. ;)

Date: 2004-11-17 09:40 pm (UTC)yes, i have problem trying to say something that doesn't sound trite sometimes in reviews. i, like you, do try though since i know how much i appreciate words for my stories. and i am, after all, a communicator at heart...
totally love what you've done with a private oratory. am honored that you worked in stuff i said, and quite pleased with what my suggestions wrought. and i'll have you know that i've dated men with virtually no chest hair. honest, adults and everything. but then i always did love the babyfaced boys. [*smirk*] i'll wager you that elijah wood has a clean chest. and i'd be glad to check for you too.
hang in there on the RL stuff. cycles, life is all about cycles i keep telling myself...

Thank you so very much for the beta. It really made me rethink those bits that were rough, and (hopefully!) evened it out. I guess one of the guys I dated in college only had hair around his nipples, but oh well. I'm just determined to be different. I'd love to think of a mid-20's Draco with a dusting of flaxen chest hair.
That was probably more than you wanted to know. :P
It's how I envisioned him when he was in "All Men Make Faults," anyway. Must say that I was in realistic writer mode more than fangirl, and I like a little chest hair. Emphasis on little. ;)
Thank you again, so much, for the beta. It already has a review and over two dozen hits at skyehawke, and I have you to thank for that. I may never be a Dementor Delta, but I enjoy what I write.
And what you write!!
Off to go soak in the tub for a bit with my new 'prezzie to me' candle, and figuring out how to conclude my two twin-centric stories. Or maybe I'll just go to bed. The cats are frenetic, now that we've rediscovered two of their balls with bells in them, and two mice toys when we moved furniture on Sunday.
((hugs))
