Oddly enough, I dreamed about Severus Snape and Remus Lupin last night. Which shouldn't be odd, seeing as how I had read two stories by the recently-discovered (to me) [livejournal.com profile] scribbulus_ink, whose original OTP is SS/RL. So there you go. Can't remember a whole lot about it now except that I talked to Snape a lot, and somehow my rainbow pack of thin Sharpie pens were a part of the conversation. *facepalm*

Even better, two nights ago, in a dream, I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] licia_north and her friend, [livejournal.com profile] letters_in_sand in real life! In my own subconscious, anyway. It was the coolest. We played some baseball (??) and Licia played with my hair for a bit. I woke up with a huge smile on my face, so happy that I had finally gotten to meet her. Except, of course, I hadn't.

I realized as I drove into work this morning that during the 18 months while I was absolutely churning out Tolkienfic (which only stopped with the Mithrils and the overwhelming desire to write Harry Potter instead for awhile, which has freed up my imagination to astonishing degrees) I didn't dream of the characters, despite seeing, say, FotR 11 times in the movie theater, and watching particular scenes with Eowyn in them dozens of times when I was designing my costume. And I didn't dream about my OFC, nor Dwarves, nor Morwen/Thengel/anyone else who I was writing about for months at a time.

There must be something about the accessibility of the HP characters that has allowed them to seep into my subconscious in ways that the Tolkien characters didn't, save that one dream I had when I was Legolas in a LotR musical. Please don't spew on your screen. It was pretty cool to be a flying Elf in my dream, I must say. Then again, the dream from a couple of months ago when I got to have really searing, butterflies in stomach kisses with 'George Weasley' was pretty great as well.

My dreamlife. What a mess. All the books I read, movies I see, stories I'm writing and reading, artwork sent to me- all in one kaleidoscope of quasi-reality otherwise known as my mind: The Alembic.

No wonder I'm always so confused.

Wow, that's an awesome dream. And... oddly disturbing. Especially the part about the baseball. ;-)

I've never had LotR dreams to any real extent, either. Maybe a couple here and there (especially right after the movies came out), but you'd think there would've been more over fifteen years. Maybe we're too saturated, being such citizens of Arda already. ;-)

HP, though, is another animal entirely. I have Harry Potter dreams all the time. I think it's because I read the books SO quickly, and then my brain spends all its down time digesting them. And HP isn't as subtle and literary as Tolkien, you know? It's all peaks and valleys of good and bad, angst and mystery, teenage confusion.

At least... that's sort of what I get out of it. Haven't kissed anybody yet, though (not even Lucius... *sigh*), so I'm pretty jealous about your George encounter, hee hee! I also seem to dream about details--and there are so many itty bitty ones in the HP universe; my dreambrain sometimes notices them after the fact, and then I have to go back to the book to make sure they were really there. And they usually are.

Weird.

Maybe it really is the "devil in the details," eh? Because my dreams are full of that kindof stuff. The embroidery on a dress somebody wore. I can still describe to you a dream I had from months ago, walking down a wagon-trailed path and the large hogs in their pens (apparently I was on a farm), and then going into town to a *fabulous* vintage clothing store with wide open doors and the great clothes I was riffling through.

And that really was a dream, though of course I've also done that in real life. But I'd almost like to join a group, if there were one, for people who really can't get rid of their dreams, and perhaps also have the kind of vivid imaginations that it must take both to have them, and also to remember them.

I like your theories on the Tolkien/HP difference. I am still a bit peeved that I didn't/don't dream about the Ardaverse, but perhaps the saturation point is indeed the kicker.

More soon. :) But it was SO GREAT to meet you! Even though I didn't, of course.

Odd that -- i never have Tolkien OR Potter dreams, and you'd think I would being so immersed as I am in those worlds...

I have had a fairly amusing one about seeing Emerald Rose in concert at some weird bar and Logan offering me a beer, but we open up, strangly enough, a cooler and there is nothing there but wine... (why a cooler in a bar, and why was I so disappointed there was no beer when there was an icy bottle of my favorite Pinot Grigo? And tell me WHY I had to get to the bar just as they finished for the evening??) Dreams are weird things. But I love reading about yours!

I am a bit surprised that you haven't had Tolkien or Harry Potter dreams! But not everybody has the same kind of vivid dream life that I do, and I'm sure that's a Very Good Thing. I would never watch a horror movie that has to do with dreams (like, say, all of those Freddy Kreuger ones) because it would be far too traumatic. As it is, I've learned how to wake myself up if things get too scary- I learned to do that years ago. Somehow I can tell if it's a dream or not and if I can't wake myself up, I'll manage to 'change the channel' so that it's something less frightening.

Bizarre thing, the subconscious!!

I like your dream- it prompted me to go check out the 'men in kilts' interest that I have on my LJ and the utilikilts guys. Didn't the Emerald Rose guys wear kilts at the Two Towers party??

I'll post over at your LJ, promise. Just writing and writing and writing...

I have very vivid dreams myself, and usually one or two every night. I've actually written several short stories based on them. Or I walk through part of the morning dazed and confused, wondering if what I dreamed really happened, or if it was only a dream...(I once woke up sobbing desperately after a dream because I dreamed my husband had died and it was so real...Yuck! it was awful.) I think you are the ONLY person i've ever met that can also wake up at a scary part of a dream, or "change channels!" (It doesn't always work, but somehow it still manages to lessen the fear engendered by my subconscious)

Emerald Rose -- yes, they wore black dressy kilts to BOTH oscar parties and looked very good, indeed! At the Return of the King torn party, Arthur wore a dark blue shirt, Logan wore a light medium blue shirt, while Clyde had on something dreamy in blue/black. Larry wored a deep red shirt which contrasted beautifully with all the blue shirts. They were quite stunning actually! (errr emmmm, ahem *cough* *cough* *blushes*)

*hugs thevina*

How funny that you dream about the book characters and not the movie ones, in regards to HP, but you dreamted about the movie characters with Tolkien. Then again, you were so immersed in the film aspects of late, that shouldn't be surprising.

I found this story by scribbulus_ink from one of geoviki's recent recs:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/scribbulus_ink/189728.html

I enjoyed it. Her website is here:

http://remembrall.slashcity.net/fictionremus.html

Well, the overarching website is before the Remus stuff, but I thought I'd guide you straight to the Remusfic. There's one that's completely AU and extraordinarily romantic, so I know you'll love it. *g* Go read "What if?" from it. Teenage sex, and a term that she uses a lot, "mate." Remus believes that Severus is his mate, and as she writes it in this story, they get to live happily ever after.

And no, I haven't given the author feedback yet, and I'm absolutely evil, but I will be doing so soon. Very soon.

Ohhh, Viggo! *swoons* I've had a couple of dreams about him -- but not as Aragorn. One particularly vivid one was of him reading poetry in a coffee shop somewhere. Really obscure poetry with the smell of french roast in the background. Looking sruffy and sexy. *swoons again*
