One of the advantages of being in a large city with at least two medically-centric tertiary institutions is being able to go to student clinics to have various procedures done at a much reduced cost. Especially when one has no health care or dental coverage. I signed up on the waiting list at Pacific University's dental clinic when I first arrived, knowing that it would probably be a six month waiting period, and got the call about three weeks ago. I had an appointment a week ago Monday with a delightful dental hygenist student, but the medical and bitewing x-ray part took so long (instructors follow behind the students and sign off on pretty much everything they do) that I didn't have my actual cleaning. I did find out that despite not having been to the dentist in 15 months, my teeth and gums were in fabulous shape. My follow up appointment was yesterday, but it also took much longer than expected. That said, my teeth are deliciously clean and I was given high praise in my flossing technique. ;) That particular university also has an eye clinic in the building, so while I was there I inquired about their student clinic. The cost for an exam is $119, which isn't bad, but the Wal-Mart 4 blocks from me also has an ophthalmologist and the exam fee there is $75. So that's where I'll go after I have another modeling gig or two.
I stayed up later last night than I should have, but it was to ensure that I had a decent night's sleep. Which I did. Yay! And imagine my surprise when I opened my curtains and saw… snow on the ground. Not much, but it is quite pretty. Not to mention an odd occurrence for Portland this time of year.
Now I'm settling in for some serious computer time, both job-hunting and working on this fun project for
