I finally found some pics of gorgeous red-haired, freckled boys and want to make one of those fun moving icons.

Can someone tell me where to find the (free) software that will allow me to do so??

Thanks much.

Thanks, Fileg. I've just seen that anything out there is waaaaaaaaaaay beyond my skill, so I may just make my pitiful attempt using the photo software on our mac at home, which isn't photoshop.

I appreciate the heads up! People do some amazing stuff.

the photoshop / image ready stuff is pricey -fortunately I need it for work *G*

if you just need the animation done, I could work with you - you make the frames you want, send them to me with directions, and I will convert them andd see if it's what your looking for.

MK at HA turned me on to irfanview. If you click on the left hand nav link titled What is IrfanView ? you'll see all the info you need to decide if it will work with your comp, and...
IrfanView was the first Windows graphic viewer (worldwide) with Animated-GIF
support!
I'm still learning to use it, but the instructions are super easy to follow. Even my son Justin was impressed with it. Of course we already had MS GIF Animator. I can check with Justin on where/how he got that, but AFAIK it's shareware too.

Oh, thank you, Edrys. If I get around to it, I'll try it out one of these evenings. I may just not worry about it, and try to make a decent webpage using the pics instead. ;)

Thank you again!!

p.s. I just bought a frame over the weekend to put one of your cards in. You'd sent a lovely note on a card with a pretty flower on the front (grasping at English here, lol!) and I'm going to put it on display. I majorly owe you a letter, too. Just having difficulties getting the energy to focus these days. :P

If you do decide to have a go at it, you'll still need the GIF animator. Justin says that it is indeed shareware, and the file is so small that I could simply e-mail it to you - with any needed instructions courtesy of Justin - I do love having my own home-grown tech support. ;-)

My one attempt (so far) at an animated icon was using Paint images that I plugged into the GIF animator. Poor quality - they loose resolution because of Paint's limitations - so one of these days when I have a little time to spare I pan to redo him using irfanview. But blurred image or no, I still love my cowboy. :-D
