Another HP rec

I have another rec. It’s brilliant. Ron/Draco, actually has a plot, completely believable characterizations, those gorgeous shards of Wizarding world creativity that extend beyond JKR, and a happy ending.
Before I do that, though, I must welcome my newest fan, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. I met her in Tolkien fandom (she’s a fellow costumer) two summers ago in Seattle at Barlibash, and hadn’t realized until only recently that she is also a writer and a huge HP fan. But when I discovered that she had stayed up until 2 a.m. reading my HP stuff (new to LJ, she only just discovered that she could read the locked entries hidden behind my ‘smut’ filter), and that she thoroughly enjoyed my stories, was the most gratifying feeling in the world. Now she, like me, wants more George/Remus. (I’m working on it) And just… well… more.
(and yes, l., I came up with the term 'pixie’s piss,' I must say. I just have the feeling that all of the Weasley men, save Arthur, are potty mouths. But you’re welcome to use it. Alliteration and all that. *grin*)
Don’t we all?!
Which brings me back to “The Wine of Life”. It is slightly heavy-handed in that there is a pervasive underlying theme of “it’s okay to be homosexual and it’s not perverse,” to which I echo, “it’s okay to be a homosexual and it’s not perverse”- goodness knows, otherwise I wouldn’t read, much less write, slash! But that is my only complaint, which isn’t really much of one. There are mysteries to be solved as Draco and Ron function to my mind like Mulder/Scully (this story brought to mind that one X-Files episode where Scully keeps doing autopsies of people who have eaten pizza for dinner… which, kindof squickishly [though if one does autopsies all the time, I’m sure this would be a nonissue] makes her hungry); there is a piece of enchanted Malfoy jewellery (and yes, I do have a thing for snakes as well, just ask Hissy, the cornsnake that I’ve ‘snakesat’ for some friends of ours on holidays); Ron’s birthday; rogue vicars; and snappy dialogue.
Love, love. I don’t know quite what it is about this pairing, and I completely would not believe it except in a post-Hogwarts-they’re-adults context, but I find the sort of “opposites-might-attract” quality to the two very compelling. And in this story, very well executed and tightly written.
Share the love if you enjoy it as well, i.e.: email the author,

Me, it’s only 2:30 p.m. on my day off, ostensibly to rest. I have:
~ scoured/cleaned the bathroom
~ cleaned out the litterbox
~ taken out the trash
~ handwashed clothes
~ fixed my Fred/Hermione story and posted it
~ read ‘The Wine of Life’ which I printed up before leaving the office yesterday
~ made a to-do list of my stories, trying to prioritize them and figure out where I am in all of them
~ written more on the Eowyn/Aragorn story, which pleases me greatly (and I must say that much inspiration for that comes from licia and her gorgeous “Seabird” story)
~ checked yet another word off of my “obscure vocabulary words [and their definitions, so I remember what they mean] somehow to be worked into my fanfiction” list, having incorporated the word ‘nacreous’ into the E/A story, originally read in At Swim, Two Boys. Does anybody else carry around pieces of paper listing obscure words to be used as though they were treasures? I really would try to incorporate them into my everyday speaking vocabulary, but there’s just not much inspiration there. And how disturbing is it that I know that I wrote down ‘nacreous’ from ASTB? *shakes head*
~ paid an inordinate amount in medical bills, but now I’ve met my deductible (grrrr)
~ renewed mine and Mr. Thev’s AAA cards
~ made a list of what I need to get at Kmart, including fingernail clippers so that I can, ostensibly, give myself a pedicure this afternoon
Hm. Guess that’s it. Next on the Yet To Do list:
~ recolor hair
~ watch PotC, rented for free from the library
~ take a nap
~ write on Denethor story, new G/R and/or twinfic
~ oh. Eat. Have an unopened jar of Tostitos cheese in a jar and a bag of chips.
~ giggle at my cats, who sleep on their backs, legs brazenly splayed open for all the world to see and polydactyl paws clutched under their chins, the shameless panthers
~ mow lawn? No, probably not.
~ write letters to
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
~ nap? Did I say that? I don’t think I know how anymore. I did go to sleep last night and promptly spent the entire night writing (in my sleep) a Fred and George drabble, which now, sadly, has left me. I know that someone gave them cigars, and Molly had a part in it, but now I don’t know what they were doing, or saying, nor can I remember any of the context. Must not go to bed right after spending time on the computer. It only worsens my sleeping patterns which are pathetic at best.
Day off = good.
So pleased that I have Friday off as well. Much writing. Probably lawn mowing, too. Maybe running, except that it’s so freaking hot and humid. Wish I were with my friends below the equator, wearing their woolies. Not at the same time, of course. Unless they’d like that. ;)
thanks for the shout out and the rec....

Date: 2004-07-14 04:41 pm (UTC)I've seen that motif before and can't remember the author (or much else about the story, sadly- I've read waaaaaaaay too much fanfic!), but I still love it. Very creative.
you should realize you are really good.....
*blush* Well, I've certainly written a lot. Glad I'm learning!!
am scared to show you my stuff......
Oh, please. :P
