New job, day 1

So what I learned today: how to effectively keep a Panera's dining room looking spiffy and clean at all times. Busing tables, brewing coffee and tea, and then some rather tedious but necessary e-learning to finish out my first five hour shift. I didn't eat or buy anything there today, but I will soon. They're having some quarterly event this Sunday to do with becoming familiar with holiday foods, which we'll all get to sample. I've also discovered where the interestingly tattooed and pierced denizens of Harrisonburg are: they work at Panera! Who knew? Anyway, nice folks, and tomorrow I learn the ways of the barista for specialty coffee drinks and smoothies and whatnot. Seeing as how I've never worked anywhere near a coffee shop, this should be interesting. I also met a couple of the corporate gents who stopped by, and received both a handshake a proclaimed Panera Hug. And was told that I had a lovely smile. So after work I bought myself celebratory Monterey Jack queso to go with Fritos and Diet Coke as a snack. Bad for me, but oh so good.
Thanks to visiting my friend in Salem, she recommended several series to me, including two I've downloaded to watch and knit since I've now finished True Blood season 3. And can I tell you how excited I am to see that it's included in the
yuletide_admin listing for this year?! So I have Lark Rise to Candleford and something called Wild at Heart, not to be confused with the David Lynch film.
Busy week, but not so much in the evenings. I'm making a 'scrunchable cowl' in addition to my cardigan as it helps me to have something not quite so thought-encompassing to knit.

Date: 2010-11-10 09:51 pm (UTC)I'm thinking of Yuletide as well. But I am not so original as you are--I am considering Swordspoint (which I offered to do before and didn't get) and also Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series. Not sure what else. Television shows. Not so much. I missed my chance at BBC Merlin on Yuletide. It's no longer rare, but a big unwieldy fandom now.

Date: 2010-11-15 11:58 am (UTC)As for the series: I can tell that her tastes and mine are a bit different; she's really into the English Victorian and earlier eras, so Lark Rise to Candleford didn't really turn me on. The one in South Africa is set in current times and I'll give it a couple of episodes before deciding one way or another.
