What is TL;DR? For the life of me I cannot decipher this bit of acronymage.

It stands for "too long; didn't read." Some use the expression "teal deer" for it, which confused me a LOT!

Yes, they both confuse me! Thanks!

That's a new one on me. Learn something every day. But then nothing fictional is ever too long for me. Sometimes, I skip things because I see they are very short and I'm not in the mood for a teaser. I do occasionally scroll over very long uncut non-fiction LJ entries. If someone puts a long entry behind a cut I am always more likely to click and read.

Ah, I'm too late to answer! But yes, "too long; don't read". Usually applied when the person is going to whinge at length.

It has two uses, depending on whether it's "Too Long, Didn't Read" or "Too Long, Don't Read." The first was the original, I think, meaning that someone else's post was long and rambling and not worth reading.

The second is for your own post, acknowledging that what you just wrote (or are just about to write) was long, rambling, and usually whiny (or sometimes just long and informative about something you suspect no one else cares about). Sort of a "Don't mind me, I just had to get that out." It's kind of a pre-emptive defense against anyone else telling you that your post is long and boring.

It's present on the Urban Dictionary (my usual reference for that sort of stuff.)
1. teal deer
A bastardization of "tl;dr", which is a bastardization of "Too long ; Didn't read." Usually presented in the form of a photochopped (sic) image of a deer.

Just thought I'd mention this amazing site if you weren't familiar with it. ^^

I've not been to the Urban Dictionary, but now I'll know! It was your post and icon that really made me wonder, lol.

^^ I thought it might be, tbh.

The idea was that a PhD in the Humanities + Rudolf the reindeer = Too Long, Didn't Read

I'm a dork, what can I say. >.>

*grin* It took me about three months to finally get frustrated enough to look that one up in the urban dictionary.
