Much of today was on the road, and then lounging around at my sister-in-law's grandparents' place. I feel rather out of place a lot of the time, and am quite content to fade to the background with my knitting while everybody fawns over my brother's baby/one year old. I'm just not a baby person. And this should have been 6 pictures, but one didn't upload, and given how much of a pain in the ass photoshop is being, I thought I'd cut my losses and post five pictures today.

A highway stop in NY where you take a covered walkway over the highway to get to the food and restrooms. I'd never been a part of anything quite like this!

    Getting close to the border.

Taken while in line at drive-through customs. We got through without any issues, thank goodness.

A view of the back of the house where I'm staying from the outdoor pool. It really is a lovely area.

In the kitchen, just a selection of some of the 12 of us here over the next couple of days. It's mostly my sister-in-law's family, who are quite lovely, just a bit louder than I'm used to.

I expect I'll do a fair amount of writing and knitting over the next couple of days, though perhaps I can get into town and mail a couple of post cards. And to the Canadians on my flist, glad to be up here! :)

Looks like a great place to write and knit! I hope the family isn't too distracting. And glad you didn't have any trouble at the border. Remember my friend Michel? He and his family defected from Canada back in the 70's, crossing the border near Montana disguised as circus clowns. He still never talks about it.

It's a glorious environment!! And fabulous food since my sister in law's mother is a professional cook. She's handmade bagels that will be ready in about an hour! :P

They defected disgused as circus clowns. Wow. Glad you're enjoying the pictures! I need to get caught up on yours. :)

that's a gorgeous backyard. odd to see a pool with no fence, though. :)

Well, I don't think the pool is very deep. Still, there are often kids out here, though my brother's child is watched with hawk eyes by eleven adults. ;)

it's just the law here that any backyard pool is fenced, so i'm not used to seeing them 'free' like that.

also a friend of mine drowned when i was a kid. in a few inches of water. she slipped and hit her head. so the 'not very deep' doesn't really mean it's safe... *has issues with water*

The Harry Potter Exhibition is in Toronto! I was there last week. Small exhibit but worth seeing!

Oh, wow! If I had my own car, I'd probably check it out, but I think I may miss it since we're on a family-centric trip. Thanks for the heads up!

It really is! The whole place is absolutely beautiful. It's rained some today, but now is a bit sunny and windy. I enjoyed the overcast part of the day, of course. ;)
