I picked up my stepkids from their daycamp today and once we were home, I asked them to take the office recycling out of the back of the Subaru and put it in our bin which is to be picked up tomorrow. Included with the office paper were two boxes of nice envelopes. Emma said, “Look, Kristi! It’s fan mail for your stories!” “Ha, ha,” I replied, and went inside to change clothes and then go mow the front yard, since I had promised to Mr. Thev that I would do so if it weren’t raining.
An hour and some later, I came inside, sweaty and whatnot, and Sam took me by the hand to guide me to the dining room table. “Look!” he said. “We told you you had fanmail!”
Eight of the envelopes had been saved with letters in each of them (I must interject here and admit that neither Emma nor Sam have actually read any of my fanfiction, though I’ve enticed Emma with the twinfic, and she said she’d read it when it was done.), all addressed to me. I won’t quote them all, but the variety of authors was rather hilarious:
Dear Kristi.
I love your work. It is so inspiraring. Sorry for the misspelling. I spend so much time acting.
Billy Boyd
(I love that one especially since I don’t think I’ve written anything with Pippin in it except very peripherally. I think it’s that Sam knows that I love it when Pippin sings during RotK the movie.)
Kristi,
This is really great stuff and true to the book too! Keep up the great work. You have a lot of promise.
J.K. Rowling
Kristi,
Thanks for writing all those stories that provide us with endless hours of pleasure and entertainment! We agree with you, Fred and George should get more recognition.
“Fred and George Weasley”
Dear Kirsti, [sic]
Your work is great. I love it. I think you should write a book. Please sign and send back.

Thank you.

Dear Kristi,
I would just like to say how much I enjoy your stories. I’ve read all the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter books and think your stories are excellent. Keep coming up with the great stuff!
Ellen DeGeneres
I was rendered speechless, though I did bestow many kisses on said progeny-by-love.
I wonder what will happen if they ever actually read any of my stuff. Hard to say.

Date: 2004-06-10 05:30 pm (UTC)Yeah. *blush* I'm so popular! I've put the Fred and George one up on my wall at work. They even tried to vary their handwriting for the different letters. And they are incredible kids, which is why I tend to gush about them and their occasional antics.

Date: 2004-06-13 12:47 am (UTC)It's pretty amazing, even though I still don't think that I was meant to be a full-time parent, and I truly admire all those who are. But Emma and Sam have four parents who love them, even if we each have our own... oddities. :)
And I'm glad that my letter arrived okay! Do you think I'll be able to see you? If not, I completely understand, but it would be extraordinary to meet the Nessime that I've been bantering ideas around with for 16 months or so.

Re: *beams*
Date: 2004-06-13 12:52 am (UTC)Well, we'll see. Emma is more of a rabid reader than Sam, but neither is opposed to reading, to be sure. I don't know that they'll ever get into my stuff, tho' perhaps Emma will read the twinfic. I doubt that she will ever get into Tolkien, but who knows- aside from The Hobbit, I hadn't read any Tolkien until the movie came out. Hard to believe it's only been two years and some that Tolkien's been in my life. At our "butt numb a thon" today, almost everybody else had grown up with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I feel like an over-self-educated child, sometimes.
Sam hasn't even read "Another Mother's Son" which I wrote for him- I told him he couldn't until he read "The Hobbit," which I bought in lovely limited edition green (p)leather for him for Christmas last year. It could be a long wait. :P
