Do you really want to hurt me?
May. 7th, 2004 11:36 amI love Culture Club. I tend to listen to the same music over and over again- I keep schlepping the same 7 CDs to the office and back home, including two of
Which brings me to a question: I'd asked Jen about where to download music files. I am resisting feeling like I'm stealing because I'm only looking for a few tracks to put on a soundtrack of sorts for the Weasley twins story. I own all of the songs I want, just not in the correct format, ie. cassette tapes and LPs. Can I help it that the technology keeps changing?? Yes, boys and girls, I belonged to the Columbia House Record Club when you could still order records. In fact, I think the last item I bought from them (which was my freshman year of college) was an album by a New Zealand band, The Chills. On LP. But that was back in '88. So anyway- she (Jen) told me about Kazaa and winmx. I did try downloading Kazaa and thought it was kindof nightmarish, so I uninstalled it. and i shouldn't be installing it on my work computer anyway, i know, i know. I just want to find a few tracks so that I can burn my soundtrack without going to the used CD store and buying several CDs just for one song. Suggestions? Oh, and of course, I want it to be free. :P
In other news, I was thinking of submitting some photos to TORn's "Ringers" documentary thingie, so I finally got a picture of my dear cat, Gimli. With his friend.

Aren't they adorable?! (you can barely see the Arwen postcard attached to the mirror that my friend Julia sent it to me from Australia. *g*)

He might as well be winking at us and gesturing at us to come a little closer...I don't have any good recommendations for a program to download music, unfortunately. I used to use Kazaa on my brother's compy, but he uninstalled it after files started showing up with viruses and runny noses. Sorry!
I have a great tape I made when I was ten or eleven or so, and "Heaven on the 7th Floor" and "Funkytown" are both on it, along with "Run Runaway" by Slade (ever heard of them? They're AWESOME) and some Midnight Oil. Your post made me think of it, and now I'll probably have to go dig for it. *pleasant sigh*

Date: 2004-05-09 08:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, he's gorgeous and he knows it. Both he and his brother Louis are polydactyls, so they have an extra toe on their hands and feet. It's adorable.
I do know of Slade.
Midnight Oil
Being the Aussie-phile I am, I have a couple of Midnight Oil cassette tapes. In fact, my first boyfriend in college told me later that he knew he was in trouble if he came over and I was listening to them. It was my angry music. Hope you found your tape and played it!!
*heh heh heh*
Date: 2004-05-07 07:48 pm (UTC)Have never done the MP3 thing, myself. My ideal would be to be able to grab just the songs I wanted, too. I'd probably be willing to pay a buck or so, if I could then copy the song onto mixed cds as many times as I felt like. I've heard good things about iTunes; I think that's about what they charge, and while not unlimited I believe their use rights are fairly good.

Date: 2004-05-09 08:43 pm (UTC)So do I. I was listening to the Go-Go's Friday afternoon. :D
I still own a turntable
The S.O. and I actually bought a *new* turntable when I moved in because we both have a lot of LPs, some by bands that I don't think were around by the time of CD technology. It's fun to play records on occasion, just for the heck of it.
I'll look at iTunes, thanks!
Good heavens!
Date: 2004-05-07 09:49 pm (UTC)As far as downloading songs etc. If you are going to use Kazaa, do yourself a favour and D/L Kazaa Lite. It's much better about virus and spyware etc. Winmx I found to be quite limited when looking for 'older' music, although I liked its format, and that you could run multiple searches at a time. Hope this helps in some way.

Re: Good heavens!
Date: 2004-05-09 08:47 pm (UTC)That's allright- I was doing one of those "all about me" email memes that a friend had sent and realized that the last CD I had bought was the Go-Go's "Vacation." I really wanted that one song, so I bought it used.
Thanks also for the Kazaa/Winmix info. Once I get back to the office tomorrow I'll investigate further. I'll also be calling the cable company to get cable internet at home. Dialup, while free, is becoming far too much of a pain!!
