Early morning, rec, and Wednesday in general

I have a dentist's appointment at 8:30 this morning. :sigh: My second ever beginnings of a cavity, so I'm going to get it sealed off. Not a morning person, but on the other hand, I did go to bed at a decent hour. And I might get some things done before work.

When vulgarweed indicated she was participating in the lgbtfest and chose Ents as her creature within Tolkien fandom, I was already intrigued. She put a shout out for a quick beta last week and I hastily (therefore oh-so-not-Entishly) volunteered. I've not read anything from an Ent's POV, and she does this with some beautiful imagery and it really sounds like an Ent. So hie thee here for "Lomendánar (Little Love for the Things of My Love)". Here's just two sentences that have haunted me for Tolkienesque loveliness and angst:
I know tales of the Sundering Seas, lady, and the ships that cross to never return to Middle-earth. But we are Middle-earth, and what ship can bear our kind? Even the Elves make ships of our broken bodies.


I had great fun writing the drabble/vignettes earlier this week. Thanks to all who requested one and the enthusiastic responses in the various fandoms! I'm down to a rewrite of the epilogue of M+M, basically changing it from a one-page summary that's all "tell, don't show" and reversing it. At the time, I'd already begun the sequel and just wanted M+M to be done. Now I can take the time for only a couple of scenes, keeping it short, but showing how Ashmael acts after Vaysh's sudden death rather than an overview until he goes to Immanion. Then I'll be ready for a beta before sending it to Storm for her initial edit of the expanded and edited version. I've been sitting on my R/D fic, post betas. I'll take it with me to Washington this weekend, as I'll be AFK this weekend from Saturday morning on, and I won't be staying up until ridiculous o'clock Friday night (as I often do) because I'd like to be on the road around 7:30-8:00. I'll be spending Saturday and Sunday with my aunt in Bellevue, WA, visiting with my aunts and uncles and mom and stepdad in celebration of my grandmother's 90th birthday, which is tomorrow. The irony that it's Mother's Day the weekend of the first time I see my mom in person since I left Virginia is high. :P There won't be any drama; she and I do talk on the phone every couple of weeks, about neutral topics. But I suspect my psyche will chime in and my dreams might get even wackier than usual.

A couple of people on my flist have had really shitty life events thrown at them; one's going in for surgery next week; a few of you have chronic issues and it makes me so frustrated that it can't be made better. All that to say: you're in my thoughts and held in my heart. I've been sending out a lot of cards and short missives as at least one way to stay in touch and brighten some mailboxes around the country and world. Maybe the drabbles help, too.


Now I must get dressed and on the road for my appointment. This will be a looooooooong day. My supervisor returns from his 2 1/2 week trip to Argentina; in many ways I'm glad he'll be back, but I quite enjoyed having some actual responsibility. I'm glad I've been able to prove myself, and it'll be hard to be 'demoted' back to what I did before. Still, hopefully I was able to lay some groundwork should there be some changes in staff in the upcoming months.

Oh, wow! An Ent threesome!! How unique, and so very Arda-ish in their getting together. I never would have thought of such a thing, and yet, I'm absolutely enchanted by your story.

The archive has a Wraeththu section? Hmmmm. Certainly it's a tee-tiny fandom compared to many, and there aren't many archives. Does this archive garner much in the way of responses? I'm sure there are others in the Wraeththu fandom who'd like to post. I'm happy to post my already-embarrassing number of fics. :) I also see a spot for The Persian Boy, and have a friend who wrote a gorgeous multi-chapter story that would fit nicely there. The dentist part was fine; he did use a bit of topical anesthesia which made my coffee drinking once I got home a very odd experience indeed! I've never tried drinking coffee with half of my mouth numb. :P

After getting yours and Callum's beta, I've put it aside. I had hoped that by not obsessing, fabulous inspiration would come to me. Hasn't happened yet. :sigh:

Yes, driving up to Seattle. I suspect it will be totally drama free, but there may be a lot of awkward. I hope not, but I don't exactly hang out with my aunts and uncles very often. I get along really well with Jane, who lives there, and thankfully I'll be staying with her Saturday night. We'll see. I have my car no matter what, so if I feel like I just need to get back, I can do so.

Both my supervisor and the director of sales think I'm wonderful, that I did tremendous work, and they are exceedingly grateful. :) Now if only I could become full time... but hey. It's better than a stick in the eye, as the saying goes.

I'm going to try calling you in the morning my time tomorrow and/or Friday. Have you made space in your cell phone voice mail yet? ;)

(((hugs))) Yes, we must! I didn't want to push, especially since it sounded as though you weren't getting any sleep. Do you have a U.S. phone yet? I'll email you with my phone number. Per this post, I'm out of pocket until Monday, but next weekend aside from Saturday evening I should be able to get together.
