Yes, I'm a lemming. Gacked from at least [livejournal.com profile] heartofoshun and [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5, I went through my harddrive and discovered waaaaaaay more works in progress (or simply abandoned fics, in some cases) than I thought I had! So here they are, listed in alpha order by the titles they have. So, the meme:

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence unless you're a cheater like me and posted occasionally a dialogue line.

That said, if anyone is curious about particular sentences, I'll dish!

    1) Colin's words held no bite; truth be told, he'd much prefer his lover to be mellow that way than via the gallons of bourbon he'd drunk in recent years.

    2) When Remus came to, before even opening his eyes, he took stock of his appendages.

    3) Gathering wine, salted meat, chalices, and her good graces, she awaited her Lord of the Hoarfrost Eyes.

    4) While Fred and George spoke to each other in their unique twinspeak, Arthur surrendered to the sleep that had been wanting to claim him for many hours, his arm draped protectively over Molly and his two youngest children.

    5) "This is unthinkable, immature and ill-advised," Severus seethed, though he did dim his wand to the faintest glow.

    6) “For love of brother, uncle and leige, I lied, I feigned manhood, and I deserted my kingdom,” she said harshly. “Who kept you caged?”

    7) Monarch swooped on him, all long arms and chartreuse cape and far-too-tempting lips as he planted a dry row of kisses from Balthamos' cheekbone to his jaw.

    8) Éowyn thought that she would rather serve a fifteen-course dinner to Gríma Wormtongue than endure listening to her own genealogy, so she cut him off.

    9) "Frightfully Bad Idea!!" glowed in red letters on the watch face, but he ignored it.

    10) Perhaps it was because he was a son of Fëanor and had been born with an obsession for beauty and no small amount of pride, but Amras often liked to think of how they must look together, his ruddy tones and fiery hair mingling with that of his more luminous partner.

    11) It wasn't in so many words, but Severus had revealed that his deepest longings were for Remus, and a life in which he could tell people who wished to make him act against his will to fuck off and leave him alone.

    12) Bruises were everywhere, rope burns, and most horrifying of all, a tyre track across a shattered shinbone.

    13) It was like pushing millions of square pegs into the round holes of her façade.

    14) Anardil was imposingly painted, his pale hair blowing in the wind, his hand clasped to the mast of his beloved Eämbar, blue eyes glacier-cold in their foresight.

    15) To her, however, it was as though the world had been shattered, then spelled back together with a tragically inept Reparo, the cracks and omissions glaring and unfathomable.

All of these are very intriguing. You have a great grasp of humor. #8? #2? Hilarious.

Thanks so much! What's funny (to me!) is that #2 is actually from an angsty fic in which Remus has come to, discovered that he does still possess all of his appendages, but he's been chained to a wall with a silver bracket that's burning his skin. :( But by itself, it does have a completely different feel to it!

Whoa! Poor Remus! I was WAY off-base there, was I not? I guess it reminded me of that line in which Dumbledore remarks that the previous Care of Magical Creatures Professor has retired so as to spend more time with his remaining limbs.

I might have to do this. I've got far too many languishing fics on my hard drive. Surely there's a post-worthy line in there somewhere. :p

Oh, yes. And I'd love to read more behind #4 and #9. XD

#4 is from a genfic story called "Arthur, Interrupted." It was meant to tie in with my the George/Remus "Cartography of Fire" series, in which in one of the last stories in that arc, Arthur gives George a stack of letters that he'd written to he and Fred from their birth onwards. In Arthur, Interrupted, he's writing letters about when George and Fred were first born, and then it was going to go on from there.

And #9 is from a Neville-centric HP/Through the Looking-Glass/Alice in Wonderland crossover in which Neville, while stuck cleaning trophies in some random room in Hogwarts during 5th year or so, discovers the Mirror of Erised and walks through it to the Looking-Glass world. :D

I'm sure there is! And that icon really makes me laugh. And so many of the stories I referenced above are fics that are abandoned and I think they'll remain that way. Oh well!

Amusing, enticing, sad. I do love the way you write.

Oh, thank you so much! It was fun, though also disheartening to see so many abandoned fics. I'm glad there is some definite variety of style.

Oh, it's been such a long time since I've written or read Snape/Lupin! It's been such a long time since I've written or read any HP at all!

Glad you liked the Snupin! That was an abandoned story for [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze. Ooops. I'm signed up for two HP fests so I'll be writing a bit more in the upcoming months. Yes, you're much more in the Ardaverse these days, aren't you?

I am so enjoying reading all of these posts of this topic. It is fascinating to me that my friends seem to fall into two categories--those with only a few WIPs and those with many. (Still trying to think about what that means in terms of productivity and the creative process--hmmm.)

These are all fascinating.

It is an intriguing exercose, isn't it? If I listed truly only WsIP, as in active WsIP, it would be far fewer. Several listed up there (like #8, which was a story in which Éowyn came to the late 20th century U.S. ROFL.) will never, ever be finished. I do harbor hopes for #14 (my Numenorean fic) and #10 (actually an HP/Silmarillion crossover) being finished one day.

9) "Frightfully Bad Idea!!" glowed in red letters on the watch face, but he ignored it.

I need a watch like this!!

Yes, I think it would behoove many of us to have a watch like that!! In this fic, Neville's gram had given it to him. ;)

OMG these are all gems! I especially like #-- actually I like all of them! Okay I'll try to pick some favorites. #6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15.

I am curious about #6. Is it about Eowyn?

I can only handle one WIP at a time. I'm such a beginner!

These were certainly a treat!

Thank you for your thoughts! I was a bit shocked to see so many abandoned and "well, maybe I'll finish this one day" fics. I suppose I should really have included a new sentence from my new scenes in M+M, as that's the active WIP I'm working on! Oooops.

Yes, #6 is Éowyn, a bit pissed off, confronting Faramir.

Glad you enjoyed! :D

So glad you enjoyed this! Most of them aren't currently active WsIP, but a few of them I really do hope to get back to and keep going with them. I was more surprised at the number of Tolkien stories, but there are many HP fics too.

Thank you so much! It's so funny that people are laughing at the Remus and his appendages because it's from such an angsty story. Take something out of context, though, and it can be read a variety of ways!!

Ha! I love number eight. It must really suck to be royal, because of how often you have to deal with the unfortunately accurate tellings of your lineage.

Hee! Thanks for your comment. That was from a thankfully never finished story in which during a bet gone wrong, somehow Éowyn finds herself in the late 1990's in the U.S. at the home of some Tolkien fan (male) who, after gaping at her, was going through who she was when she tells him to shut up. ;)
