Weekend!! :D
Apr. 9th, 2004 02:59 pm*looks at Tolkien fanfiction writers*
Well, it’s time for the Mithrils again! Sally forth and nominate good works! This includes your own; you can self-nominate. And you better believe I will. I also know of some other people’s whose I’ll be nominating… ;) I consulted with
miraminx and she says that there isn’t an equivalent like the Mithrils within HP fandom. Anybody who takes on an endeavor like that must be incredibly dedicated, that’s for sure.
And now, for
Argh. “Speak, Friend and Enter” has been languishing in ‘pending’ at HASA for over a week. Which means that enough people have looked at it, but the last one/two/three haven’t made up their minds yet, or are just taking forever to get around to reading it. It’s not a novel, for goodness sake, it’s only 20 pages! Oh well. I’ll send it to DeeDee at parma and feel better. Rant over.
I went to the library as the beginning of my solo weekend of splendor and checked out 5 movies with lots of variety:
1- Night on Earth. A definite fave of mine. So quirky, but all within the one theme.
2- The House of Mirth. Never seen it, but it has two of my favorite redheads, Eric Stoltz and Gillian Anderson.
3- Scottish Clans. I think it’s probably just going to have pretty music and scenery and voiceovers. That’s okay. I do wish I had the yarn for my new knitting project, though, so I could knit while watching. It’s backordered.
4- Kon-Tiki. Hey- it’s about guys in Norway following a dream and it won Best Documentary in 1951. I love me a good documentary. Seriously.
5- The Celluloid Closet. All of a sudden I got the idea I wanted to see something that addressed homosexuality, and “The Crying Game” was checked out. Somehow even in the hubbub that surrounded that when it came out, I never saw it, neither did I know it was set in Ireland. Gotta put that one, as well as “But I’m a Cheerleader” in the S.O.’s Netflix queue.
It’s a gorgeous day. I treated myself to a 99 cent filet o’fish at McDonald’s after going to the grocery store to get my foodstuffs: thick American cheese slices to go with my can of turkey chili, and the makings for green bean casserole, which I’ll have tonight after a run. And I bought diet coke yesterday. Caffine! I’d kinda forgotten about it.
Postscript: Okay, and today I got it in my head to try and reread Prisoner of Azkaban or maybe skim it and the others because I want to get a better handle on Fred and George. I am very disappointed at the lack of twinfic which isn't twincest. Suppose I'll have to write it myself. I'd love to challenge myself to a longer HP story without comparing my stuff to the giants in the fandom.

Date: 2004-04-10 03:57 pm (UTC)I think I've seen part of Anaconda as well, and only because of him. My favorite of his, though, and I own a copy, amazingly enough, is "Naked in New York." It was a film I enjoyed because it had Eric in it (and I'll happily have his babies anytime he cares to drop by and offer) and because it was about two people who had been together for a long time, but needed to separate, and they knew it would be okay. I think I watched that after a breakup with somebody. I'm not sure that he's been doing much, but he shows up in films from time to time, oftentimes in ones that are too violent for my taste. "Killing Zoe." I think he was in that.
Haven't seen "The House of Mirth" yet- I'm still in "Redeeming Time" bliss. And I need to get a shower and take the recycling. I'm loving having the house to myself, though the weather has turned and now it's chilly. It reminds me of when I was visiting you last August; I got out of bed and promptly pulled on a jumper! With all the windows open. *grin*

When I first read that, the first thing that popped into my head was Han Solo. *laughs* Have a great weekend wallowing in solitude!

*raises eyebrow* Well, there are certainly worse things to think about. ;) And yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying my solitude. It's fantastically quiet, the sky is that kind of "ill-tempered grey" that I put in "Speak, Friend..." which makes the yellow/green of the new leaves in the backyard stand out all the more. To my mind, verdant anything stands out most vividly against a greay sky. Must be why I want to move to Scotland, so I could see that most days!
