Overtones

EDIT: I just went out into the hallway, and my hallmate does have something on her computer, maybe one scene from a movie or a video game or *something* and it's that which is actually playing those notes, over and over and over again.

:sigh:

This is a totally random thing to drop here, but I have my fan on, and my hallmate is watching a movie, I believe; I can't really hear it. What I've noticed is this repeating set of tones that I can hear. It's like hearing an oboe, actually: the tone is exactly that of an oboe. It's a set of five notes, slowly played, and then the first three again, in repetition again and again. I was thinking that I was crazy, that perhaps my downstairs neighbor had something on that was more Philip Glass than Philip Glass (and I studied and love minimalism, don't get me wrong). I've realized now that there are overtones in the fan and some other force between the fan and air which causes that to happen. Think "Close Encounters". Again, and again, and on the periphery, but unable to be silenced.

What's creepy is that I can't really turn it off. I mean, I can turn the fan off, but as long as the fan is on this speed, I keep hearing it.

That is really funny. Weird unidentified noises. I remember once I was completely alone in my apartment and it suddenly sounded like someone was in the next room rattling papers like crazy. After listening for a really long time, absolutely terrified, I finally decided to look (stupid probably) it was a giant moth hitting against the sides of a paper lampshade.

Yes, much like that! I did finally figure it out- she'd been watching a movie and it had gone to the menu screen and so that music was playing again and again. :P

I bet it's that one theme from the Sims2. When you are building things--which I enjoy as much or more as the sims interacting--the music is kind of limited. There is one annoying theme which goes moo-muh-mooore-mra-mwaaaaaaah-wumm. Moo-muh-mooore-mra-mwaaaaaaah-wumm.

My sympathies.

Building new houses, or additions to existing ones, is my favorite part of the game. Well, that and making the boys (I have Ron & Draco Sims) Whoo-hoo.

That's always fun. :p

OMG, you mean I'm not the only one? I've gotten totally sucked into that game this summer. And my kids tease me. But I spend hours arranging and re-arranging houses. I figured out how to cheat and motherlode just so that I can arrange furniture and stuff. *sighs at self*

OMG, playing with the houses and furniture is so much fun!

And the motherlode cheat is genius -- I plug that in and spend like mad. I bought the farmhouse (my favoritest house) and completely tricked it out.

Sims is awesome. d(^_^)b

You're playing Sims?? It's one of those things I bet I'd love, but I really don't need any other obsessions. ;)

Yes, sadly!! It is starting to suck up significant portions of my weekend. And sometimes weeknights!

You know, I don't like to watch tv much and I try to avoid computer games since our computer crashed and I can't play Harry Potter anymore. *sighs*

I've never played! But people sure seem to have fun with it. Turns out once I thought about it, it was the menu screen for whatever movie she'd been watching when she fell asleep. The home owner padded down the hall after I'd gone to bed and woke her up so she could turn it off. ;) I wonder what movie it was…

Thanks for the sympathy! I figured out it was the menu screen from whatever movie she'd been watching and she fell asleep. Hence the endless repetition. It was actually loud enough that after I'd gone to bed, the house owner (whose room is at the other end of the hallway) woke her up and asked her to turn it off. o_O I'm glad, though. I slept better!

Yeah! It was the menu for a movie she'd been watching and fell asleep. The home owner woke her up so she could turn it off. Can't say that I'm too sorry about that. ;)
