I've been here for under two weeks; I have estimates to get on my car thanks to the accident; I need to commit financially and time-wise to attending my would-be 20th high school reunion in Wenatchee, Washington, to which I'm inclining after spending time with my grade-school friend and her family. I left after fifth grade (1981), so I might well not recognize most of the crowd, but it being a smaller college town, I think I just might recognize some key people from my formative group. And that would be really amazing.

Today I let myself write to [livejournal.com profile] veloona via handmail, which also prompted me to find the nearest physical post office (where I could send said letter tomorrow), and I spent the afternoon with another recent relocator to Portland via the pagan meetup I attended last Wednesday. He has a month on me in the area, and in the area near to where I am now, so I gratefully allowed myself to be taken out to areas I perhaps should have discovered on my own.

New mantra: haven't even been here for two weeks.

Another amazing thing: seeing Mt. Hood in her glory under a cloudless blue sky. And seeing Mt. St. Helens. I lived in Wenatchee when MSH exploded, an episode forever etched into my memory.

I'm not sure what the future holds, but since I suck and don't yet have pictures of my neighborhood, my room, the house, etc., I give you

a house with beautiful glasswork in the stairs. And yes, even by my new friend I was accused of taking the one picture because there was purple there.

More pictures to come.

I had a friend who was in 6th grade in Vancouver, Wash or thereabouts when MSH blew. I don't think he's ever really been impressed by anything since then!

Great stairs, babe. And I think it's okay to take it all in slowly. I'm sure there's stuff I've never seen in my home town and I've been here - er - a long time.
Good luck with the car and all. Soooo sorry to hear about the accident. That is a significant bummer.
*hugs*

What people keep telling me is that there are all of these sections to Portland, and I ask what makes them different, and it all seems to be about shopping! There are definitely pockets of more hip areas… I can't tell you how vanilla I feel here. ;)

The car will be taken care of, and there's a preliminary interview tomorrow and an in-person applying to another job that sounds interesting, and then helping one of the folks from the pagan meet-up with his computer. It feels like good karma. :D

Aren't they absolutely gorgeous? I'd want them, too!!!

And things will be fine; I have to remember that for all of the online research I did, I'd never physically been here until I moved. o_O The vibe may not be for me, but I'd like to at least give it a year and see how things feel.

(((hugs)))

UNDER TWO WEEKS!
Great steps! Hee, purple.

Very cool about the reunion, I would guess that people may well recognize you, since you look pretty young still!

Hee...we should start a meme, your picture in fifth grade. heh.

*HUGS*

As far as "should discover yourself" ...well, I say BAH to "shoulds". It seems like serendipity brought you this friend and you should enjoy the ride, not worry that you are learning your new home wrong. :D

UNDER TWO WEEKS!!

And a preliminary interview tomorrow! Which I suppose is fast, but to me seems like forever. :P

The meme of oneself in 5th grade would be hilarious! Except that all of my annuals are in my designated closet at my mom's house.

Yes. BAH to "shoulds." Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Time to be in the moment. ;)

I love the steps and the inner color of the door. ♥

Also, we were out in Portland a few years ago visiting copilot's brother and sister in law and just fell in love with it. It's such a neat town. I think your new mantra is just right -- keep reminding yourself that this is new, that pieces of it won't feel as easy as other things because you just don't have the same knowledge/experience/base that you did elsewhere. Yet.

Though, you still have the same support base here, so reach out when you feel lonely and we'll fill your heart with Ron/Draco, or, y'know, other things. :P

It is very new, and I'm proud of myself for learning the public transport better and I'll give it a go, y'know? I hadn't planned to move to Harrisonburg, either, and while I feel so vanilla compared to the hipster tattooed and pierced ones, I don't mind. I'm being me. :)

I do believe that I'll write some Ron/Draco this afternoon while prepping myself for tomorrow morning, and I think that will be good for my soul. Or something.

Those steps are beautiful and unique. I love all the shades of purple. I'm glad to hear you have a new friend to show you around and help you get familiar with your surroundings. The reunion sounds like a good thing, too.

Good luck on your car estimates!

Still sending good thoughts and wishes your way!

Aren't they glorious? And there are some other houses and things nearby I should go and take pictures of. It's really quite an interesting area around me.

Thank you for the well wishes and good thoughts! (((hugs back)))

STEPS!!
I love quirky stuff people do... unfortunately, I'm not creative enough to think 'em up and I live in the most whitebready of neighbourhoods...

Aren't they fabulous??! I love what people do, and if I had my own tee-tiny house, I'm sure I'd do very interesting things with paint and, well, um, then I'd invite my more creative friends to come over and help me. :P Sorry about your neighborhood. No wonder you get cranky on occasions!

Hmmm, wonder how to do something like that on my whole house or would that just be tacky beyond words. A path of this stuff maybe through my weedy front yard.

*ponders the absolute coolness of these stairs*

Hee, that guy has your number. OF Course you took the picture because of the Purple.

Purple = goodness

Thanks for the e-mail and the call.

And don't forget -- let the inner child remind you that you DON'T suck. Two weeks.

A path would be gorgeous! And aren't the stairs something else? There are several houses like that within a mile or so of me. And painted cars… oh my gosh. While I was waiting to meet up with my comrade, I saw one totally psychadelic car, but I've seen others while here. Very intriguing.

Thank you for the reminder. It's been nearly no time at all.

I can't believe I'm about to use this word, but those are the neatest steps I've ever seen. Eclectic and fun. The purple tiles are my favorite part. :)

Oh. And you don't suck.
