So last night after having rather a large fight with internet, my computer, Firefox, whatever, I gave up and went to my bed to write some more in my Vaysh-ventric story. I wrote this scene which didn't seem all that emotional, really, but I found my eyes welling up, and then outright bawling. All he was doing was remembering a song from a happier time in his past. And no, it wasn't frustration with my computer that caused it. ;)

Months of writing angst may now be getting to me. :P

Not that I'm one for fluff (gah!) or anything like that, but I think I'm going to need to write some shorter fics in which the characters do have some hope. This stuff combined with my state of mind and blasted spring and work stress… urg.

It will pass, but boy. I don't often get bowled over out of the blue like that. I'm sure this happens to other authors, too. Feel free to share! I won't be able to look at LJ again until tonight, but if any of you have found yourselves in strange or unexpected emotional straits due to writing, I'd be happy for this to be a time for you to tell me about it.

It's Monday.

nods, I typically write flangsty romance, so when I was writing A Good Man I was unprepared for how the hard core angst and heavy themes were going to affect me. I was totally moody and cranky from it. I ended up posting an almost identical type question post to my f-list just like you did. I think as long as I was aware that it was making me feel that way I could overcome it. I stayed with it until the fic was through and then read some happy light material.

*hugs*

Hey there! I've definitely experienced the cranky and off-kilter sense of self when writing a lot of angst. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!! I've written a PWP that was mostly upbeat, and that helped. The couple of HP stories I have on the horizon for my obligations are also going to be angsty, but perhaps I'll write some lighter shorter vignettes along the way.

Nice to see you!

Hi!

Seems like I haven't 'talked' to you in ages, but I've been reading your posts. I'm glad you've been updating about work and whatnot. Overall, you sound like you are in a pretty good place and I'm glad for you. *hugs*

I've had few emotional writing moments. Usually it happens when I'm writing and my characters just 'take over' and I find myself writing a moment or bit of dialogue that wasn't in my 'plan' but organically evolved and it takes me by surprise. Love those moments! :D

Hey, you! I feel as though you and I haven't chatted in forever, but I, too, have looked at your posts. Glad that you decided to drop a line today.

My characters often take over, I've noticed, but I've also grown not to be too surprised by that. They definitely have their own personalities, and their own agendas!! ♥

I don't write enough to get emotional about it. And what I do write tends to be very easy on the angst. (Angst I can get in RL.)

Fair enough! I'd hope that you don't have that much angst going on in RL… I've been keeping up with your LJ, and while I know it's not all sunshine and rainbows and kittens, things seemed fairly stable. Hmmmm. Perhaps it's time for me to write you another letter so you'll email me off-list. :nudge, nudge:

Thank you, sweetheart! (((hugs back)))

And so much for the copy of Tecumseh! I got it last week and I'm thrilled to have a signed copy. I'll need a whole shelf of your academic works and those you've edited! I cannot thank you enough for that. It'll be part of my summer reading.

You're tremendous, dear one!!! ♥

::holds you::

I'm sure this will come as absolutely no surprise to you, but I've cried several times while writing my two multi-chaptered fics. Not so much while I've been writing them (although that has certainly happened before), but more when I've gone back to re-read through and do editing and cleaning up. Part of that is the fics are so angsty and dark and I need to be in that place to even write them... which means I'm more open to a tearful disposition to begin with, as opposed to my usual cheeriness.

I'm so sad I missed you over the weekend! It's been non-stop over here since last Friday (night of the accident), but I think I'll be slowing down this week a bit. I'm hoping to have time to call sometime in the next few days. Until then... ::massive hugs and love::

Hello, love. Well, with yours, the content and the very reason why you've written some of it is bound to cause emotional surges. I think part of why I was so surprised was that I was just writing a tender scene, in which one of the two characters was unconscious! It's all good; I've known that I need some healthy, purging cries, but I can't force them. This was needed.

You and I will catch up at some point! I think your daily life and weekends, especially, are far busier than mine, but we'll cross paths in the next couple of weeks. XOXOX

Cry over you

So far I haven't gotten that way from anything I've written, but definitely after reading a very angsty fic or two or three, or even if rl is rather stressing. I then tend to warp over to some fluffy fics, just to calm the angst in my mind.
