The element that normally I would've been thrilled to see and jump on for its inherent angst-ridden qualities? Fred's death. But I've been writing that and exploring it in my own fanfiction for 2 1/2 years already. I had no idea it would become actual canon! I've already written the angsty stories of George's self-awareness and survival issues, of what it was/could have been like attending Fred's funeral. I've written Molly's forced acceptance (and in my story's case, her saying goodbye to the body in St. Mungo's) of Fred having died. I've already gone through the years afterward of how George copes and moves on.

I feel totally bereft by this. I think that's why I've felt so meh about things; the one element that I would have thought was so cool that JKR put in, so surprising... I never thought she would, so I've already written it. I can't write another series like "Cartography of Fire", pairing George with someone else— I realize that Remus is now dead in canon, but if I paired George up like I did in that series with anyone else, I'd feel as though he's cheating.

Unwittingly, I began writing the fics in early 2005 that I should be writing now. No wonder I'm totally floundering. I feel robbed, somehow.

:-(

{{hugs}} I can see how that must be tremendously frustrating. I feel for you!

Thank you!! I was just literally doing an online video chat with [livejournal.com profile] callumjames when it struck me why I was so uninspired. My instinctual explorations, I've already done! Woe.

That's a very logical summary. It makes sense.

... How about taking on Dumbledore/Doge Dumbledore/Grindelwald love triangle? Somebody clever and properly slashy has got too! :P

*hugs*

I've got to go through my mourning process first, I think.

Yeah. I'm still totally depressed about the whole thing. I mean, what's the point of being the only person who writes post-War George/Remus fic when George is the survivor after Fred's killed if then The Author is going to go ahead and make half of that key, obscure, element actually canon?!

I just don't know that I can write Albus slash. Even when he was young. :sigh:

Not to mention making the OTHER half pretty near impossible. *rolls eyes*

You could write Percy fic, if you want a Weasley... he's on the platform in the epilogue, but that's it. Nothing known of a partner... *bats eyes hopefully*

There is that, and I've been enjoying your more Percy-centric fics of late. I owe you a review. :is sheepish: There could definitely be Percy/Oliver fic after DH, with his cameo appearance during the fighting and all... Hmmmm.

Still, it'll always be about Ron and George for me, I'm pretty sure. I think I'll simply stay in AU-land and keep my R/D.

At least both Ron and George did survive... and, hey, if I can write post-DH Harry/Draco, you could probably figure out a way to write post-DH Ron/Draco although obviously it couldn't be in your long-standing storyline...

Reviews are never obligatory, you know. *g* Although I'll never decline them either. {{hugs}}

Guess you could always bask in the knowledge that you out-plotted the Plotter! I mean, really, think about it! That has to count for something. You did it first, and you did it better. After all, you kept Remus.

Yeah, there is that!! I also figured the war would go on for some time, and not just at Hogwarts, but that's me giving this whole series a much wider scope than JKR. And yeah, I'm ignoring Remus' death completely. So unnecessary, and so wrong.

(((hugs back)))

I know. I was really pleased that she did that, actualy; that death was one which really hit home, and seemed to truly illustrate the cost of war.

Guess I'll let some other folks write about George post-war. I hope they do, he's deserving of finally being taken seriously by someboy besides me.

i just finished the book

and i just flew through it, Kristi. It was like speed reading. I probably read the whole thing over 4-5 hours in 3 sessions. I just couldn't read fast enough. I totally thought about your story when Fred died, so kudos there. I don't think Remus's death meant enough, but I'm not sure what they were really focusing on at the end of the story anyway. The whole Dumbledore and then Voldemort/Harry dialogues one after another almost prohibited a let's talk out the story summary, and since D was dead, there wasn't anyone to talk to, because they left Ginny to the Epilogue.
Needless to say, I've been reading a lot of fanfiction, but i try to stick to long novels, I like things to gain momentum. I tried starting one of my own, but it was very scary and dark within the first sentence and I put it away.
But I'm glad you're soldiering on. The best thing about the books having been written at all is that we have the platform off of which to push, the castle to burn down, or the past to change. I am partial to changing the past; even in the magical world in which we live, we can never change the past. We can only change the past of the future. And that's so boring.

Congrats, Sean!! I hadn't realized that you were reading fanfic— that's wild. Do you think you'll continue to do so now that the canon is closed?

I'd be ecstatic to read something scary and dark… any chance that you'll pull that back out and keep going with it?

Good point about changing the past. Once I move beyond my general sense of upset, I'm sure I'll put on my Big Girl Panties and indeed soldier on, to what realms, I'm not sure.
