I don't think I've posted any of my rondracodrabble or harryron100 drabbles at my own LJ; they just seem more relevant over in those communities.

But I just wrote one for the R/D folks. In under five minutes. And I think it's one of the most evocative I've ever written, so I'm posting it here. I've gone all over the place with my drabbles, filling in all parts of the 3-part story. If you've not read my Magic Immunity series, it's Ron/Draco, and in a parallel to my George/Remus, Percy and wife were hit by a Muggle car, and Ron (and eventually handfasted partner Draco) has adopted their young son Xavier, named for Fred (who in my "Together, Alone" story has a middle name of Xavier. George's middle name is Xanadu. I'm terribly incestuous in my own fics).

Shutting up now. Here's 100 strategically-chosen words. Dunno why I resonate to it so much, but I do.

A/N: Magic Immunity universe.

Ron was asleep, the slow rise and fall of his chest an inexorable magnet to Draco's gaze. Ron sprawled on the floor, jumper-clad arm draped protectively over Xavier's side, both of them facing the fireplace. Draco wasn't far away from them; he'd been leaning forward to rub Ron's scalp while Ron mumbled through some bedtime story of his childhood until both Weasleys had dropped off, quite nearly in tandem.

Draco had been cradled; been sung to, been told fanciful tales while tucked into a riot of pillows and cloudscape of bedcoverings.

But Draco didn't know how to be a father.

Thank you! I was just thinking of the series; he takes so long to decide to come back to England after Ron's already made his decision... I figure in those first few months, it must have been so challenging. No author self-insert in being an ex a stepparent, no, none at all.

Ahh, this is so frelling lovely! Paternal!Ron is absolutely right, adorable, and sort of hot! Poor Draco though...he's being far too hard on himself!

*sniff* That was so freaking lovely. I can really see Draco's struggle here, being so new to Xavier and not having his own father be so cuddly toward him, yes he's had everything his heart desired, but did he have moments like Ron is having right now...my heart breaks for him. But, he's an amazing father, and we know this, just in the way that he knows that what he didn't get, he could give to Xave. Lovely as always.

Thank you so much! It's true, Draco actually *does* know some things about being a father and he really becomes quite a good one as time goes by. I just wanted to capture a moment early in his return when he's still much more in the "what am I doing?" mindset.

I love this series and glad you are adding to them even if just quick ones like this one. Love how Draco worries about being a parent and partner. I wish you'd do a longer addition of their relationship now that Ron's "dealt" with Harry and his past.

Thank you very much!! I'd not thought about any more long stories in the Magic Immunity series post-'More Deeply Marked Than Love,' mostly because I'm not sure what would actually happen in the story. I do like writing about the evolution of relationships, but it's good to have some plot, too, and I'm not going to kill off any more people, lol! So glad that you are a fan of the series.

This is the sweetest thing I've ever read. I went to pieces over the image of Draco rubbing Ron's scalp.
