Yes, well, I know they're from NZ, but still they were an integral part of what I listened to on the radio in Brissy in 1986, so they are now a part of home, too.
(((thank you)))
You can't imagine how lovely it was to come home last night and find your package in my post. Your card is now stationed prominently on my living room divider. Thank you, so very much.
funny that smelling of norwegian pine can make you think of sunshine! but i totally get that. i had a sniff and it reminded me of being 14/15. it's the one we used to buy.
Well, (and I'd almost rather take this off-LJ and make it email) but... when I was at St. Peter's, I got there for year 11, a year after everyone else had gone to Ironbark, this big 'we're all together in the bush' event. Not only was I the only resident foreigner, but I hadn't gone on *that*. But during my time there, my best friend always smelled of pine, and I finally discovered why— it was Norsca. Because I did get to go to art camp, off on the coast, a shorter version of Ironbark, and only for the art students. I sunburned my ears. I have matching freckles on each one because the second day I had my hair in a french braid. And I won't go into the grief I got from the blokes in my form room once I got back. :(
But it reminds me of her, and my own, innocent, growing into adulthood youth, and I never wish to lose it.
Thank you. I am refreshed, but also am relishing the reminscing.
oh dear. well there are some things that just push us too far, and that has GOT to be one of them!!!!!!
i need to own that film. i have never seen it for sale. *sigh*
i may need to snaffle your icon, just to have on my computer, if that's ok with you? i won't use it, just gaze at it occassionaly when i'm feeling particularly wistful......
i would adore to give you all the credit in the world, darl. (i said darl to be, you know, really ocker. but i don't actually say that in real life... heheh)
(and seriously, if you'd rather i don't take it, just the word!)
they bloom in october here, and 'mean' it's exam time at uni and for senior highschool students getting ready to graduate, so it's met with VERY mixed feelings by most, but SO gorgeous.
LOL -- ok, that works here too because it is finals time when they bloom (end of the spring semester). I LOVE jacarandas and discovered recently that they are not native here.
I've not been to Tasmania, but almost all of the other big cities, aside from Canberra: Brisbane (where I lived), Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns. I've primarily traveled in Queensland, aside from a choir tour in 1986 when we went further inland by bus on the way from Brisbane to Adelaide. As an adult when I've gone, I primarily focus on Brisbane since my friends are primarily still there, but I really loved visiting Perth when I had a friend who lived out there at the time. What a lovely, southern-seeming city. I hadn't realized that you, too, had been Down Under! I've not run into many people here in the States who have been over there.
