A little over a week ago, I received an unsolicited email from a gentleman in England who'd found my Harry/Ron story 'Never Break the Chain' at RS.org and loved it. He also makes limited edition handcrafted books and booklets (link here). So he wrote both to tell me how much he loved the story (always a great thing to receive in one's mailbox), but also that he used to write a little bit, but mostly he wanted my permission for him to handcraft his own copy of my story for his rereading pleasure. And could he make me one while he was at it?

::thuds::

So, here's a wee picture he sent to me, having nearly finished both copies. He's so adorable; he even asked if he could send both copies and ask me to sign one to send back. I wonder who else's erotica he likes. Of course I sent him the URL to all of my adult HP fic. We've even been discussing him putting together one of my longer stories in exchange for fic. In doing a wee bit of other research, he appears to be a slash-writing, gay-erotica-enjoying Virgo. There seem to be a lot of those in my life.

In other cool news: I've taken two carloads of stuff to my new apartment, and this evening I spent a good hour and a half cleaning nothing but the bathroom and kitchen. It looks pretty gosh-darn clean. I'll be moving in some furniture on Saturday; today during my hyper-productive lunch hour I got the power and water transferred over to me and those accounts set up. Woot!

Hope that all of you are doing well!

Yes indeed, it is!! Seems like a perfect match; he'll bind my stories, I'll write for him. As long as his pairings aren't too far out— but if he was specifically looking for H/R (which he told me he was) I'm probably okay.

That is ultra-cool. I LOVE the idea of bookmaking and the craft of binding, etc. It's yet another of my fetishes (that dovetails beautifully with the stationery one).

And v. excited on your behalf re new place. When's the official move-in date?

I didn't know you were into bookmaking; knew about the stationery/paper one, of course. :) And it's not as though paper goes *bad* or anything…

Official move-in, not sure. We're moving in furniture this Saturday, so conceivably I could start living there then, but I'm actually house- and pet-sitting (my last hurrah) Friday-Sunday nights. So I may start spending the night next week, but there is one deterrent: no internet until next Friday. ;) Will need to make massive post about address change.

Yes indeedy, it is! And so very unexpected! :D :D At the time I was so nervous about that story, too, it being my first H/R...

Immensely cool! I mean, I've had a couple of my novels done up by CafePress just for myself, but that's not nearly as nice as a handcrafted book like this -- it's gorgeous, and such a wonderful compliment!

I'd looked into the cafe press thing, but realized if I had fanfic there, that people could *buy*, that's when the lawyers start coming out. Your cookbook, not so much, but fanfic is the big no-no. So I'm thrilled that this gentleman (who in more googling I've discovered is just one year younger than I am) wanted to do this. High praise, most certainly.

The fanfic books I have never had publicly available there; they're in separate stores that are not searchable/findable by anyone who doesn't know the exact store name. So no one but me can buy them. *g* In my mind it's like printing it and taking it to Kinko's or something to be bound, except that it's a bit nicer-looking.

And yay, someone who's not in his 50s! ;-)

Doesn't it sound like fun?! Makes zero money, or close to it, though. He said he felt uncomfortable even discussing actual payment because he doesn't know how much to charge for his time. It's out of love, both for the bookbinding craft and the text. :happy sigh:

Oh man, he sounds just like me and the costumes I make. I often lose money when making costumes for other people, but I just love the finished product ... I always feel like a jackass asking for money, though people tell me to ask for more. And I should, but alas. Wimp!

Thanks heaps! I'll be sure to bring it with me so you guys can see it, too. I particularly like the image he chose for the cover. ;) Nothing like eye candy to go with the story!

That is just lovely! How exciting. Isn't the internet amazing? All the different people who can connect.

"slash-writing, gay-erotica-enjoying Virgo" nope, I'm a Taurus. Hee.

Enjoy your book!

The Internet ROCKS. I was just doing research on surfing in the U.K. (don't ask; research for one of my gift fic exchanges, lol) and grinning at myself about how much of my love of writing is the part in which I get to research what's going on in the story, but also how convenient to find this stuff out with my hair wet from my shower, sitting in my own room.

I will enjoy the book, indeed! I'll probably get a picture of myself with it to send back to him with the signed copy.

Yes, how about that? Probably the story I was The Most nervous about posting, ever. And a year and a half later, someone new stumbled across it and loved it enough to make his own copy. It's incredibly flattering.

Thanks! I'm pretty blown away, myself.

And while I've got your attention (*g*), thank you for the Lomelindi-bash CDs and mathoms! You are so incredibly kind to think of me. I've been listening to the tracks on low in my office cubicle, so this weekend when I'm in my own space I'll crank them up to see all of the treats you put together. I did recognize a lot of them. You have such a way of mixing music!

Wow, excellent on both fronts. I thought about putting together some of my favorites into a low-class binder (just for me) so that I don't have to read 'em on the computer. NEVER was thoughtful enough to think about doing a nice binding job and sending it your way, LOL.

And how exciting about moving.

I'd thought of getting copies made and bound at Kinko's or a place like that for friends, but just had never done so. This is far superior quality, that's for sure!!

VERYVERYVERY excited about having my own place! :::dances:::

That is so incredibly awesome, luv! Go you! Woo Hoo! I'd just re-read NBtC a short time ago! That's the first story of yours that I'd read, recced by Matt! And what a fantastic gift for you to cherish! Obviously, the bloke has excellent taste!

In doing a wee bit of other research, he appears to be a slash-writing, gay-erotica-enjoying Virgo. There seem to be a lot of those in my life.

Heh!

Again, congrats, luv! *hugs*

I just adore seeing that icon. Hee.

I found myself rereading a lot of it when I was trying to write a drabble set in it; I honestly couldn't remember what happened. And then I got sucked in. I'd totally forgotten I'd given Seamus a tattoo! I wonder if I knew that was the first story of mine you'd read; I knew it was all thanks to Matt that we got introduced, but I found out about her through her review of "The Ties That Bind."

Yeah, I might've been mentioning you in that little grouping. :D

Thank you! I'll bring it with me!
