So- today's the day! Last year was a challenging one, to say the least. In honor of a new year, and a nearly boundless horizon of possibilities for myself in nearly every regard, here's one of my favorite pictures of myself. It was taken by my stepsister when I was 17, and it embodies my very inner self. Into my 36th year I

For fun, here's a picture of the Gryffindor/Hufflepuff Quidditch match played in the mud and rain, taken at The Witching Hour. (I just got the pictures developed. :sigh:)

Happy birthday, dear one! *huge hugs* That first picture is you, perfectly. It made my heart glad to see it. I hope you have a wonderful birthday, my dear friend.

Incidentally, I will be emailing more soon re: your research - I think I have some sources on the crossover subject that will be very useful! :)

Sending hugs and happy birthday wishes and lots of love...

Thank you so very much! I have yet to open my gifts; I should do that soon. ;) I'll definitely look forward to your comments and help about the crossover topic. Incidentally, after a conversation I had last night, I have a whole new crossover idea not involving His Dark Materials. It would be HP/Alice in Wonderland, but Through the Looking-Glass/Mirror of Erised…

the mind reels. Just need to make progress on these other fics, lol.

(((is happily ensconsed in love and hugs)))

Sweet! It may take me a few days, if that's OK, but I know I have sources showing the phenomenon thriving by the 1980s, and I think I know where to look for details about earlier "firsts"...

Oh, WOW! :)

That's an amazing picture (yours, that is)!

Out of sheer curiosity, who won the Quidditch match?

Thanks! I'm pretty flexible, by nature, and a jumper. :)

Gryffindor won. It was quite the game to watch, too; it was raining, and muddy as all get-out, and chilly. Not that you'd know that from the picture. ;) I don't know that they'll try Quidditch out in Las Vegas.

Holy Nutcracker! Were you in ballet? That is probably a redundant question - clearly you were a dancer. :D Happy Birthday, sweet lady!

Oh yeah- ballet from age 8 or so; if I hadn't hurt my back in a bus accident in Australia when I was 16, I'd hoped to become a professional dancer.

Thank you for the greetings!! :D :D

boy, that photo looks old

Many thanks! It's a great photo; I still can't believe she caught the moment just perfectly. I've tried recreating it at different points, but never with the same success.

Thank you, again!! It's been a wonderful day.

Jumping was my favorite part of ballet. I think it also explains my aptitude at Irish stepdancing.;)

here's to the new start and a soft landing.

:raises glass:

Here, here! The soft landing, especially, which will cushion me for being able to rush off once untethered and full of vim.

(((loves you)))

Thank you, and you're welcome, too!! It encapsulates so many things that I held far more innately in the past, and am now slowly, but surely, rediscovering. Friends like you help that along, of course. :D

 Thank you. I owe a lot to my stepsister; there are several others of me mid-leap that weren't as perfect as this one. But it does manifest what I know is still within me, and that is what matters.

I wish you all the love and joy a new year can bring! Make it your best yet!

And that (she says, taking a deep breath), is what I hope to do. My buzzwords for this year are 'emotional authenticity'. I wrote them down on a sticky note a couple of months ago, and now they're plastered to my chest of drawers. It's what I'm striving for this year. There will be writing, and reading, and academics, and knitting and sewing… but I'm determind to be brave and feel this year.

Thank you so much for your comments!

Thanks, Matt!! It was at the beach, a vista I'd like to revisit at some point this year. Thank you for your thoughts, and for your guidance, positive enthusiasm and very sense of self. 2006 is already starting out far better than last year. :P

hope you had a great birthday - did you enjoy the matthew broderick pic-spam I point you to? it was so gorgeous to see some of his earlier films, the ones that made me all a-crush about him. and he's someone who seems to be ageing beautifully.

speaking of which, that pic of your leap is amazing. so evocative and captured such energy. I don't think there are any photos in the world where I am captured exuding any energy. :P

saw you were getting heaps of comments on the crossovers qs - excellent!

I sure did! In fact, I left you a comment, but it might've gotten lost in the torrents of other comments.

I do love this picture; just looking at it makes me feel hopeful. LOL about you and pictures about you exuding energy. I don't think I've seen any of you like that either, but that's okay.

There seem to be more comments! Guess I'll go check them out! (especially since my paper abstract is already submitted) :D
