Pairing: Ron/Hermione

Yes! Het! I first got to know Risie when I was beta'ing at the Quidditch Pitch, and I know that Ron/Hermione is her favorite pairing, and one that she writes so well. For you, my dear beloved whom I finally got to give real hugs to this summer, a birthday drabble.

Ale in hand, Ron marveled at how the firelight caught the auburn highlights in Hermione's hair. She'd plaited it in a french braid, though he had grand plans for undoing it once they got home.

Home.

He glanced at his left hand, at the silver band encircling his fourth finger, at the fact that they'd survived the War and he'd found the balls to ask her to marry him.

"To you and Dean," he toasted Seamus, equally glad of their partnership.

"Sláinte!" Seamus cheered, raising his glass.

Hermione's warm hand held Ron's; he squeezed in return, comfortable and at peace.

I posted this story a while back- several weeks, perhaps? Anyway, back then it received a quick beta by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool and she said that it was a good story, perhaps a bit pedantic in areas, and two of my curses would not do what I thought they would. Now I've gone back through it, tightened it up a bit and removed some extraneous adjectives, and fixed the offending curses. Back then (late December/early January) I didn't know about the HP Lexicon, but I have ended up making one up anyway. Making up spells and the like seems to be pretty common within HP fandon. But the main reason why I'm resubmitting it here is that [livejournal.com profile] setissma reviewed it at skyehawke.com, and said: "Oh, god. That was all the sort of things I'd never thought Ron/Hermione could be." Which was a good thing. Which makes me wonder what is being written in the Ron/Hermione world. I've been so caught up with RL/SB that I haven't explored much else.

So, without further comments: A Ron/Hermione story set 3 years after "Order of the Phoenix." Rated R for language, character deaths, and heartbreak. The angst in this one runs pretty high.

[livejournal.com profile] licia_north, if you were soothed by "Together, Alone," I will be intrigued to hear your reaction to this one.
