When you're in Durham, you should try to sneak into the castle - coolest university accommodation ever! (they do tours as well, I believe) http://www.dur.ac.uk/university.college/
I'm trying to remember how to best get to that hill on the other side of the river where one has a great view over the town, but my sense of direction sucks.
