Talkin' 'bout a revolution

There have been a couple of times in my recent life that I've felt that I personally made a difference to a community of sorts. The first has been with Wraeththu and
raythoo, a community I call home and where I've met people who have transformed my life, and perhaps I, theirs.
I'm feeling a bit like that today. Through a few degrees of separation,
snottygrrl told me about some local folks putting together a magazine to feature m/m stories written by women, for women- original fic. And they're taking story-specific photographs to go with it. The magazine (in its infancy) is Syzygy, and
bradhanon is the editor. In friending his LJ, I stumbled across another magazine already in print, Filament, edited by Suraya Singh (found on LJ as
filamentmag).
There's a thoughtful review here by Janine Ashbless which was enough for me, in addition to seeing the content, to go and buy a copy despite the awful exchange rate. (another review via stuff.co.nz is found here). The fact that after I gushed to Suraya and said I thought being in The People's Republic of Portland and a fairly progressive city, there would be a couple of places here where it could viably be sold, she replied right away. "Send me details! I'd love to see it there!" I feel a bit like a revolutionary. I could help get a thoughtful, intelligent, full of photos of lovely men, eclectic magazine geared toward women with nary an article about clothing or makeup, and also focusing on aspects of erotica through a unique women-initiated vision.
MAJOR EDIT ABOUT THE WRITTEN EROTICA: I didn't think to ask about the erotica itself before posting. Sadly for me, the two erotic stories in issue #2 are both het. I may try reading them, but probably not as it doesn't do anything for me. Issue #1 had one het and one m/m. Suraya is savvy enough to keep a listening ear to what interests those who buy it. I'm still looking forward to the articles and beautiful men in photographs, though I'm sad about the stories. OTOH, it's not as though I have a shortage of you on my flist who write that well. I guess I was just looking forward to hopefully well-written, scorching m/m in a magazine with the pretties. But that's exclusively what Syzygy is setting out to do, so we'll see how their inaugural issue does on that score. And I'll try to write something original that could be included in their magazine. That would rock.
I'll report in once I get my copy of Filament, which she says will be soon as she's shipping out copies internationally every day. Many of you on my flist have similar interests: I hope that if you find it similarly appealing you'll get a copy as well. I love to share the wealth!!
