Been there, done that. Second year I participated in Remix:Redux, I accidentally remixed the story that my recipient had marked as her "Safe" story (i.e. DO *NOT* remix this one!). Realized my error 5000 words in, and 2 weeks before the deadline. Ooops.
I was in a complete and total panic. I do believe I cried.
That said, I ultimately put my nose to the grindstone and came up with Wildflowers and Weeds (Shakespeare's Garden remix), which I am really quite proud of. It does work out, on occasion, that these foibles actually turn out to be blessings in disguise.
