I was fond of Feslavit, but he just couldn't stay. I'd also planned his death from the moment he became a bit too prominent in Vaysh's life; that's the true cold-bloodedness in me!! And like you say, since it is a challenge to kill hara, I thought I'd hit home the fact that accidents can kill them; it really seems one of the only ways, and often to those in more remote areas.
Exactly, re: the Phade/Vaysh interaction. I had canon to point out that they knew each other, and Phade disliked him, and the feeling was mutual. Phade still seems drawn to him, though, and has intrigue, and Vaysh just could care less. ;)
I had to know Vaysh's feelings about Thiede and how very complicated they were from the beginning, otherwise I knew I couldn't paint this whole character exploration with any believability. Hence my wibbling and asking a slew of questions about how he and Ashmael hadn't sought each other out through that time period, and how Thiede hadn't told them. This next post elaborates even more on the multi-faceted aspect of the Vaysh/Thiede dynamic. No Velaxis. Damn. Not 'til Immanion, which will bring its own dramas!!!
