I like how your Vaysh seems to be keeping a tight rein on his affections, almost to the point that he doesn't have highs and lows, although his anguish threatens to peep out periodically. The scene in the sauna was very sensual. I liked Noric's incredulity over meeting a pure-born: "in fact, pigs did fly and a flock had been seen heading westward into the sunset." Feslavit's description of what Thiede did to Vaysh was so poetic and struck me as so characteristic of Storm's wording: "He created Vaysh from shadow, spirit and memory." And Vaysh's characterization of Velaxis: "If he'd been a vampire, I'd have been sucked dry." Mmm, yep. Vel capable of surviving a bout of aruna with Thiede. Geez,I'd love to see a scene with the two of them going at it - like gods. I liked Vaysh taking aruna with Kervad and teaching him a new trick. mmmm. And I loved the dream. Your characterization of Thiede is just great. His dramatic entrances - drama queen - and that smooth exterior masking that awesome power. "Don't talk back to me, Feslavit. I won't have it." Chills. "his jovial demeanour bursting from him like an oppressively bright morning after a night of too much dauthi." Yeah, I hate him. LOL.
So okay, now he has another little task for his pawn Vaysh. And finally, I love your descriptions of the landscape and the change of seasons: "Summer spread her arms over the countryside" "The cobblestone roads weren't the worse for wear, and the sound of our horses' hooves clopping on the stone sounded like music. A wide expanse of beach greeted my vision, a dun-coloured swath of sand, unspoiled and with tall grasses growing in tufts." And "razzing" and "lavendersilk lust" Yeah. You're fabulous darling.
