I read the debate about Thiede above with interest. It is a good question - how much does Thiede manipulate events. I always thought that Thiede engineered the events that led to Pell's death, not just that he knew it was coming and hung around to pick up the pieces and use them for his own schemes. Certainly Cal blames Thiede completely, figuring that Thiede had been watching them all along and when Cal and Pell realized they were chesna, it interfered with Thiede's plan and he had to take Cal out of the equation by killing Pell. As I said, I don't remember enough about the Histories to remember if Thiede's position is explained or justified. I think Thiede is like a god playing with his ant farm, or a scientist doing experiments on rats. He manipulates events and his hara in service of his greater vision, without regard to feelings of individuals. He thinks it is all for a just cause - the new world order. However, a god who does not feel compassion and love is ultimately barren himself.
Thank you for allowing me to think about all this and for so thoroughly entertaining me with your fine story. I look forward to more. Hugs
