Meeting another fan
Dec. 29th, 2005 07:55 amI met
annmarwalk yesterday, at a Barnes & Noble about an hour's drive from each of us. As with nearly every real-life meeting with people whom I've gotten to know first via LJ/online message boards/email, it was a wonderful, joyous get-together. We chatted over coffee and a ginormous cookie (I'd come straight from a workout with no breakfast) and spent a lot of time simply grinning. We talked Tolkien fandom, people we know in common, writing, our stories in particular, fandom peculiarities in general, any contrasts between our online selves and 'hanging out in Starbucks' selves, and more about writing.
Thank you again,
annmarwalk, for helping to make that meeting a reality. I do hope we can do so again in the not-too-distant future. :) As mentioned to you, the ways I express my gratitude to my friends tends to come in one way, and that is through a gift. Those gifts tend to take the shape in one of three ways: a card/letter, something knitted, or something written. Here's a 100-word drabble with your OTP. :D
(yes, I wrote a drabble. and no, the world seems not to have ended, quite yet)
Recognition
"Your eyes."
Boromir snorted in disbelief. "That's what you noticed first about me? Not the shine to my sword, not my firm hand, my," he paused, a cheeky smirk settling on his features, "noble visage?"
Théodred rolled his eyes. "Béma save us. Yes, beloved, I noticed all of those things."
With his fingers, Théodred drew a path from Boromir's palm up the corded sinew of his arms, traversing the familiar terrain of flesh both scarred and unblemished.
"I felt I stood before an equal," Théodred murmured.
Boromir nodded, bringing Théodred's fingers to brush his lips.
"You did, and ever shall."

I'm off on a mini-retreat for the next few days; I'll be lurking, trying like mad to finish up a couple of knitting and writing projects, and maybe even taking naps. I'm sure I'll be around to with people a happy New Year.
