thrihyrne: Portland, OR (Default)
Hello again! This may not even be worth posting, as I've been keeping a hand-written journal instead of a doing stuff via the internet, and I hesitate to spend too much time on the computer here as it's not mine. I do think I'll be able to go into 'town' (Stornoway is very small) and find access, but we'll see.

Highlights: yesterday I went out to the Callanish standing stones and Carloway Broch (a round stone Iron Age structure) and was almost blown down by the strong winds. The weather's been spotty, but today it's nice and I think I'm going to take the bus up to Ness at the Butt of Lewis- the northernmost edge of the island. I did get to see the ocean yesterday on the western side- it's quite a stark view.

I'm fighting a cough/slight cold, no surprise after so much recirculated air, etc. Yay for Strepsils, and lotion, as I have windburn as well. :P

But it's an adventure! And I'm glad to be here. The skies are unreal- constantly changing as the wind is so strong, though I keep hearing that last week was gorgeous here. I've heard some Gaelic now, and couldn't begin to make heads or tails of it. At times I can barely understand the Scottish, though. ;)

So, I'll sign off for now- just be prepared for much longer post-trip write-ups. I'm glad I did this, even if it took coming this far away to sit in a chair and read a Marie Claire magazine for two hours. And then write some postcards, which I decided to do after all. :)

I hope you all are well; sorry for being so brief, but it's better weather today and I think I'll go adventuring again, after I take some aspirin. I've been really sore after a luggage hauling incident (happened in Edinburgh; I was an idiot and got off of the bus about 5 stops too soon and hauled my over-packed bags with no wheels the entirety of the mile or so on Prince's Street by Edinburgh castle. I was in tears when I finally got on the airport bus, only to realize I was going the wrong way. He took pity on me and let me ride the one stop before it went to the airport, but my left knee is solid purple from where my hardcase Samsonite suitcase was banging on it. Ouch.), but things have improved.

More later!!
