Oh, goodness, the tenderness here will try to pierce me. And yet for all the softness, for all the caresses of love echoing between them, it's not schmoopy of too soft or girly. It - oh, god, it makes me want to go read Faramir/Boromir for the first time in years. I just realized. That wasn't what that sentence was going to say, but yes - it's the sensation of closer than brothers. Especially here coming on the loss of Fred, that's the feeling you caught here, and it's very soothing. That between the two of them, they will have life and maybe, if they get each other through this war, each pulling the other with him, saving him, maybe then they'll even have laughter. For all that you set it in this bleak world of waiting, with the sense of an endless, cruel war, there's so much hope here.

I'm not sure why, but it kind of reminds me of a darling little fic I read yesterday by [livejournal.com profile] fleshdress. It was joy, unexpected, and maybe the more joyous for that. Your fic is nothing like hers, not in style of writing or in tone or in content, and yet this does make me think of it for some reason. Here, you have hope, a careful, hot, devoted kind of love. In her fic, she had the opposite - careless love, but not bad, just careless and given to imparting joy. Anyway, this is quite lovely, just a moment in time, a little glimpse into a scene that matters.

Also, I forgot to mention this last night in response to your comment, but yes, I will email you sometime. I'm quite frank and open in private settings, unlike in LJ where I tend to cage my words. I'd like that.
