Thevina's Fanfiction Year in Review

It's nearly the conclusion of 2008, and while I do have a couple of stories which haven't yet had the author reveals, I'm going to go ahead and do a summary of the year. It's been another productive one, in which I dove head-first with great gusto into a new fandom, which really surprised me. I thought my head would be full with Harry Potter and Tolkien and I'd never get involved in any others. Instead, Storm Constantine's Wraeththu series of books totally took over, but I also wrote a few short selections in Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint world as well. I'd love to write some Mary Renault The Persian Boy fanfiction one day, but it hasn't yet happened. ;)

I'm going to organize these by fandoms rather than by date, but here's what I've written and posted in 2008 (not including 2 fest stories not yet revealed):

Wraeththu
All of my Wraeththu fics can be found here at my website. You can't leave reviews, but for the first fic below, I do have it saved as a pdf there, and there are pictures of 'Castlegar' as well as some other yummy pictures.
§ Maelstrom and Mage, Desire Thine Darkling
49,083 words; Ashmael/Vaysh and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu [where you can leave a review! ;) ] or here as a pdf file to download.

§ Down the Whispering Well
44,523 words; Vaysh/Ashmael and OCs, adult
Available here at Forever Wraeththu. I didn't get around to making a pdf of this one, though maybe I will soon.

§ Passion's Acolyte
3,015 words; Cal/Swift, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Interpret Me the Savage Whirr
6,198 words; Seel/Ashmael, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Quare Clausum Fregit (Wherefore he broke the close)
3,364 words; Vaysh/OC [Yazdyar, from 'Down the Whispering Well'], adult
Available here on LJ and here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Mere Trifles
1,723 words; Seel/Swift (not adult), Cobweb
Available here at Forever Wraeththu or here at my website. I don't seem to have ever posted it at my LJ!

§ Swooping to Landward
13,800 words; Chithra/Lemuel (OCs), a study of Fioan/Colurastes cultural interaction, adult
Available here on LJ (link is to part one) or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ After the Storm, Restless Fire
4,979 words; Ithiel/Cobweb and Ithiel/Terzian, adult
Available here on LJ or here at Forever Wraeththu

§ Reap the Wild Wind
24,402 words; Kelp/Blackspur, Kelp/Hunt (OCs), adult
Link to the first post on my LJ here, or you can read the whole thing here at my website. It hasn't yet been uploaded to Forever Wraeththu.

§ Libertine
389 words; Terzian, PG-13
Available here at my LJ

A few Wraeththu drabbles written along the way are here at my website

Harry Potter
§ Cloudscape of Ravens
18,030 words; Ron/OC, Ron/Severus, adult
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust Ron-centric fest I hosted with a lot of help. The link there is locked to ensure no-one underage in the community got to it, but you can read it here at my website or here at Skyehawke if you'd care to leave a review.

§ No Shame, This Life, Beloved
14,792 words; Ron/Draco, adult; in all likelihood, the last story in the "Magic Immunity" story arc.
Available here at my LJ

§ A Rally Toward Exalted Moments
5,567 words; Harry/Charlie, adult
Available here at my LJ or here at the [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest community

§ Scotch Game
9,144 words; Ron/Remus, adult
Available here at my LJ; it's locked at the [livejournal.com profile] remus_ron_slash community to prevent underage folks from reading it there.

§ The Sensibility of Wantonness
3,181 words; Ron/Draco ["Crown of Rope" universe], adult
Available here at my LJ

I also seem to have written a slew of various drabbles by request on a few different days. Rather than organize them, there are a bunch of requested HP drabbles here (some Wraeththu, too, but I put them on my website), a rare het Ron/Hermione drabble here and Ron/Charlie drabble from the vampire!Charlie incest story I wrote a year or so ago for [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins

I also have one lingering WIP, a Dean/Ron for the very patient Callum James. I actually printed out what I had when I was at his flat in England in October, and I really will finish it. It's just taken a back burner, to my chagrin.

Swordspoint
These are nearly all drabbles, though I think I did write a vignette. LOL. I've written a lot this year and can't keep it all straight! Hence the annual wrap-up.

Basil's Banquet, Fall of the Kings drabble
Untitled Richard/Alec drabble
Revenge Effloresces, Richard/Alec drabble

Hmmmm. Thought I'd written more Swordspoint than that; I think I just wish I had!

Lord of the Rings
Unbelievably after my start in the Ardaverse, the only things I've written in LotR fandom this year have been drabbles, but I do seem to have written a few. All are general rating unless otherwise noted.

Untitled Halbarad-centric drabble
Alliances, Gimli-centric
Untitled Gimli-centric drabble
Untitled Éowyn-centric drabble
Untitled Celeborn/Aragorn drabble, adult
Another untitled Gimli-centric drabble

Wow. So, looking at the non-drabbles, it appears as though I've written around 200,000 words of fanfiction this year. I'm not a real word-counter usually; it's just good for me to look at the year and see where my focuses have been. Obviously it's been with Wraeththu more than anything else, and I don't know what my focus will be next year. I will be expanding "Maelstrom and Mage," trying to double it in length to get it ready to be a proper novel available from Immanion Press, and my slashy_santa fic is Tolkien. This year I also started out trying NaNoWriMo, so I wrote about 3K of actual original fiction. Wheeeeeee.

For those of you who have read and enjoyed my stories and let me know, thank you so much! Feedback, commentary, and enthusiasm are always gratifying for an author.

New Ron/Draco: "No Shame, This Life, Beloved," Magic Immunity 'verse

Title: No Shame, This Life, Beloved
Pairing: Ron/Draco, Magic Immunity universe (which does include wished-for Ron/Harry, though Harry never knew)
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 14,800
Warnings: angst, a bit of sentimentality
Beta: my gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] hapendfro for her insights and commentary and not letting me put this out without revamping the epilogue.
A/N: I started this in fall of '07; I then discovered Wraeththu and other things happened, like moving cross-country. I'd planned for this to be the final long installment in Magical Immunity, and suspect it will be, but never say never. I love these two and this 'verse I first created back in January of 2005. For all who have read and enjoyed my stories in this world, thank you for your comments, your affection for them in this world, and for the art commissioned by [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea created by the talented [livejournal.com profile] fuileachd. Art always welcomed, of course! I do hope you all enjoy this continuation in the story; it having been so long since the last one I don't know whether anyone in our R/D 'ship will even remember what happened last. When we last left our heroes (in "How Close the Divide"), Xavier had been summoned to Hogwarts a year earlier than usual and Ron and Draco had just put him on the Hogwarts Express. Cross-posted to the archives where I house my fanfic and our R/D LJ communities. This story is also totally AU with actual canon by now; it does correlate with my "Cartography of Fire" series: George and Remus are handfasted, Severus survived the War, but barely, Harry was killed.
Summary: Ron and Draco receive rather a shock at discovering the House Xavier is sorted into, though Ron is even more surprised when his new French intern, Jean-Luc, seems to fancy him. Especially when Ron realises he could be capable of infidelity. Life has its surprises, conflicts and deaths, but through it, Draco and Ron seem to be able to hold fast to one another in their own sometimes tumultuous ways.

Beta begging

edit: the kindly [livejournal.com profile] hapendfro thankfully has come to my rescue. I've revamped the epilogue and will hopefully post it this weekend. And maybe someone will read it! ;)

I'm going to finish this last installment in Magic Immunity within the next 48 hours. Anyone who's been a fan of mine and wants to be a part of this languishing but loved, piecemeal-written story polished to perfection, please let me know: I'd love a couple of sets of eyes on it before posting. I do love this 'ship, so very, very much. I may write another couple of drabbles just because I can. The story is around 30 pages; not complete yet; I need to have… well, never mind. I need to write the last epilogue, which pains me. I'll miss these two within this universe.

Thankfully, I can always visit. It's my little 'verse, after all, after three and a half years. OMG. Can't believe I've been writing these two for that long.

I think I should go write a drabble. At any rate, if anyone is willing to beta, please email me. Ron, Draco and I thank you.

My 2007 fic year in review

I'm at home, as my knight in armor, [livejournal.com profile] pghpatronus, has come down with the flu, so I'm not travelling to visit with him and [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley. We're all disappointed that we won't get to see each other, and I hope that PGH gets well soon. He's on some serious meds, and I'm in a funk.

So! This time of year is a good time to look back. I can't really begin to comprehend how incredibly painful, anger- and anxiety-ridden this year has been for me in RL, so instead, here's the listing of the stories I've written, the various new and old pairings and life experiences I explored through writing as an escape and/or written alternative to my own situations out in the world. Despite the very, very challenging year, I've written a lot that I'm proud of, and hope that you who are readers of my fic, have enjoyed at least one or two of my output from 2007.

fic listing, in chronological order )

The ones I'm most proud of? Probably the Ron/Dean Vermilion Hunger, Cerulean Thirst; Strange-Eyed Constellation (a rare trio if ever there was one!); Strife from the Furthest Prime, and Crown of Rope. Here's to an equally creative outpouring in 2008. For those of you who continue to read and enjoy my stories and let me know, my heartfelt thanks to you. To those who read my stories and lurk, thank you for that as well. And to my many betas, I so appreciate your insights and enthusiasm. With each story I hope that I'm honing my craft, and one of my planned intentions is to spread my wings a bit out beyond fanfic this next year. I'd hoped to do that in 2007, but it wasn't to be. Still, as I look back at what I did contribute to the Harry Potter fandom in 2007, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Thank you all for bothering to take the time to read my often long-ish fics, and to let me know what you thought.

Music, walks, and enjoying the quiet

My workdays are quite frenetic, hence why I've not posted much during the week. My job has decidedly changed, but as I've become a bit more used to it, as well as fine-tuned my attitude, things have improved. I do find myself looking askance in many ways at some lower management decisions, and can only shake my head. Of the three supervisors for customer care, I believe the oldest is 26 or 27. So... I've been out in the workforce for at least a decade longer than all of them, and have a bit more perspective, which keeps me from going slightly batshite on occasion.

So! music and links! )

I've also finally taken a couple of leisurely walks down the dirt road which I now live on. There are a lot of cows nearby, as well as some 'regular' houses that aren't on farms. Lots of dogs, and trucks, and large swaths of grassy hills until they meet treelines. It's delightfully quiet and relatively serene out here, truly. You can't hear the highway, and due to a distinct lack of street lights, the stars at night when the sky is clear is absolutely phenomenal. Did I mention there's no shortage of cows down the road? Pretty funny. I'm settling in well to the new place and the independence of my roommates means that we can chat if we want, but pretty much we all do our own thing, which I find to be just perfect.

Not much in writing news: finished the epilogue for my [livejournal.com profile] ginger_lust fic which has already been beta'ed and is now at a second; edited for two of my dear friends; wrote two drabbles over at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble and have found myself getting back to the last installment of "Magic Immunity." I did get a short but enthusiastic review for "Crown of Rope" over at Skyehawke, which was gratifying.

I hope that you all have a good beginning to your week! Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] risiepookie, thank you so much for your gorgeous card and bookmark and the pictures! How splendid to have pictures of your smiling face that I can look at any time. :D

New Ron/Draco PWP, "Hic Sunt Leones," Adult

[livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar is a huge R/D fan. She also has, like myself and others I know, a perhaps unhealthy appreciation for Rupert Grint. At any rate, she recently made a gorgeous Ron/Draco aural fanmix with equally gorgeous front and back cover art, found here for your viewing and downloading pleasure.

In gratitude and thanks to her for that, and some Photoshop help, and because she's been a fan of my R/D Magic Immunity series for some time, I offered up a vignette. There was a particular drabble I posted a little while back at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble that she'd liked, so this story starts with the drabble and goes from there.

This is set early in the MI universe, between "Of Boots and Boxers" and "All That I'm Good for Is You".

Title: Hic Sunt Leones ['here are lions,' as used to appear on old maps]
Pairing: R/D
Genre: PWP
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 2500
A/N: for [livejournal.com profile] sexyscholar. You rock, m'dear!!

Two anniversaries!

Yesterday was the 3rd birthday of EdgeRadio, the independent radio station that [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins runs. He plays adult alternative with a nod to the 80s and 90s, plus independent news programmes and some reggae at some point on the weekend (ah, Sunday night). It's a really great selection of music, but I'd also like to plug the news and social commentary programmes as well. Our media is so saturated with bias that hearing something outside of that fray is quite refreshing. The station is a labor of love for Wolfie, and I want to wish him and the station a very happy 3rd birthday. The station also has its own LJ= [livejournal.com profile] edgeradio. :)

Also, I realized that I've been writing in my Ron/Draco Magic Immunity universe for 2 1/2 years now. I published MI in January of 2005 with the 9th story in it put out to the public in March of this year. I continue to write drabbles in that universe, and suspect that there's one last full-length story in it, though I've been rather caught up in another WIP since April. While caught in reverie, should anyone wish to read it or if you've lost the link to my website, 'tis here. I really need to find a proper Dean or adult-aged version of Dean to put in my pics down the left hand side…

At any rate, a happy anniversary of sorts to my boys in that universe, a series of stories that has brought some truly wonderful people into my life, all thanks to their love of Ron/Draco and coming along with me on the roads my muse and I have led them down.

dom!Ron short conclusion to quadruple R/D drabble from last week

I'm already behind again at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble, but I was writing a letter to [livejournal.com profile] stuckinsea and wrote her a concluding bit to Growling in the Lion's Den. It's just a wee bit to finish out the scene, and since there's a chance you (Hannah!) might not be able to read my writing considering the scratchouts and whatnot, here's the ending (slightly modified; I obviously can't do anything without editing it!). Pr0ny, adult, way short.

Work post, and bliss of a weekend alone

what I'm doing at my new job )

I do have a cold and feel kind of like crap, but in spite of that, it's been a great weekend having the house to myself while my parents are in North Carolina for a wedding.

[livejournal.com profile] risiepookie, I'm sorry I didn't call last night, but I was on the phone for four hours with [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins, by which point [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley had come home from work, so I talked with him for an additional 45 minutes. But— your Dean/Ron fic is finished, and I just adore it. I hope that you will, too. In fact, I got all sniffly this morning as I wrote the last scene. I'll be sending it to my betas today.

I also wrote a quadruple drabble yesterday morning, attempting to get caught up with the prompts at [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble. So I took the four I hadn't done and combined them all into an exactly 400-word drabblette, here. Like nearly all of my R/D drabbles, it's in the Magic Immunity universe.

Now I'm going to have a little breakfast, take a hot soak in the bath, and then curl up on the couch to watch "The History Boys" which [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins and [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley were so kind to mail to me. I'm also enjoying the cold weather and rain, with bonus thunder tossed in!

Thinking of you all and hoping that you're well. :)

new Magic Immunity fic- "How Close the Divide," adult

I've been writing on this off and on since December with a few other fics that have been posted before completing this one. This is the latest installment in the story arc from Ron's POV. I hope you enjoy!! My advance apologies for cross-posting to the Ron/Draco archives that many of us frequent.

Title: How Close the Divide
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 17,700 [posted in three parts]
Summary: Healers can be their own worst enemies— Ron is, but Draco steps up to the challenge. On top of that, despite their bond, when it comes to family, Ron can't leave well enough alone. Has he pushed things too far with Draco and Xavier? The sixth full-length installment in the Magic Immunity series.
A/N: Undying gratitude to my betas: [livejournal.com profile] honor74, [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins, [livejournal.com profile] llembas, and Callum. Thank you for helping me fix the nubs and snagged threads in the weave of my stories.

Skin | Nightmare | G

Title: Nightmare
Author: Thevina
Prompt: Skin
Rating: G
A/N: Magic Immunity universe

Ron woke up, totally discombobulated and thrown out of a dream he'd had that was so vivid he was still shaking. He'd never been in a Muggle aeroplane, and yet, the one he'd just been in had crashed, though he'd survived. As his breathing slowed, it slowly registered that he had two hands full: one bunched at the sheets, the other grasping claw-like at Draco's downy chest hair.

"Wake up," Draco said groggily, a warm palm fingering Ron's fist. "It's okay. You're alright, Ron. Hold me."

The relief shuddered through Ron as he spooned against Draco's skin, unrelenting and real.

A rare drabble posting here chez my own LJ

I don't think I've posted any of my [livejournal.com profile] rondracodrabble or [livejournal.com profile] harryron100 drabbles at my own LJ; they just seem more relevant over in those communities.

But I just wrote one for the R/D folks. In under five minutes. And I think it's one of the most evocative I've ever written, so I'm posting it here. I've gone all over the place with my drabbles, filling in all parts of the 3-part story. If you've not read my Magic Immunity series, it's Ron/Draco, and in a parallel to my George/Remus, Percy and wife were hit by a Muggle car, and Ron (and eventually handfasted partner Draco) has adopted their young son Xavier, named for Fred (who in my "Together, Alone" story has a middle name of Xavier. George's middle name is Xanadu. I'm terribly incestuous in my own fics).

Shutting up now. Here's 100 strategically-chosen words. Dunno why I resonate to it so much, but I do.

Title: Non Pater Familias
Prompt: Fathers
Rating: G
A/N: Magic Immunity universe.

Ron was asleep, the slow rise and fall of his chest an inexorable magnet to Draco's gaze. Ron sprawled on the floor, jumper-clad arm draped protectively over Xavier's side, both of them facing the fireplace. Draco wasn't far away from them; he'd been leaning forward to rub Ron's scalp while Ron mumbled through some bedtime story of his childhood until both Weasleys had dropped off, quite nearly in tandem.

Draco had been cradled; been sung to, been told fanciful tales while tucked into a riot of pillows and cloudscape of bedcoverings.

But Draco didn't know how to be a father.

New George/Remus (and Ron/Draco) fic

At some point I mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins that one of the R/S tropes is Remus or Sirius in a kilt. This was news to him, and he thought it sounded brilliant, and thought it would be even better if it were my Remus/George pairing. I've been writing these drabbles in my R/D Magic Immunity universe and conveniently hadn't really written about Ron and Draco's handfasting, which would be a perfect occasion for Remus to wear his… kilt. And sneak off with George (a parallel pairing with my Cartography of Fire universe) during the reception to put ease of accessability of said kilt to use.

So this is for you, Wolfie.

Oh, and if one didn't have inspiration enough thinking about Remus in a kilt, there's this gorgeous sporran that came up in a google search:
purple celtic sporran )

For those on my flist not into slash, you'll want to skip this. Those who are fellow R/D fans, let me know if you think there's enough R/D in this (beyond the fact that it's totally in the MI universe and set at their handfasting) to post in those communities. I just don't know; it's R/D, but it's from George's POV and teh hot is George/Remus. Please share your thoughts with me if you'd care to.

Title: Tripping the Light Plaidtastic
Pairing: George/Remus and Ron/Draco
Rating: NC-17 (shocking, I know)
Word Count: 4,100-ish
Summary: The day of Ron and Draco's handfasting, it's raining, Remus is in a kilt, Draco's tired of being snubbed, and George finds he's more open-minded than he thought. About several things.
A/N: Magic Immunity universe, but George's POV and parallels the Cartography of Fire G/R pairing. Dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] wolfiekins, whose love of the Weasleys nearly rivals my own, and whose email correspondence, writing of a story in my Fling Wide universe and reviews of my many stories has made me feel positively cherished and adored.

New R/D: Walking Each Other Home

Title: Walking Each Other Home
Pairing: Ron/Draco
Rating: R, for strong language and mention of adult activities, but strangely enough (for me), nothing actually happens in the story itself
Summary: The map of the human heart- challenging terrain for an inexperienced cartographer. Especially so if it's Draco in denial, and Ron Weasley is involved.
A/N: Intermediary story in the Magic Immunity universe, from Draco's POV. Set roughly before and after "All That I'm Good for Is You."

Those of you on my flist who subscribe to Ron-centric comms, my apologies; you will have seen my barrage of posts to them.
