Moving in stages

Having been let down by Comcast (no surprise there), [livejournal.com profile] evannichols' and my plans changed for how and where I was going to work for the next couple of days. Today I'll be back at the house on 79th, which actually is great. I moved all of my things yesterday except for desk/office chair/mattress (and some food), so I can work there today and do a thorough floor clean during my breaks! Yay. Tomorrow Evan takes off from BHFT to have movers come from 8-11 or so to move his belongings over. Which means that this evening I'll help in packing up anything I can that doesn't require inside knowledge, and help disassemble his tall cabinets/shelving units. I'll spend the morning in Milwaukie at a coffee shop and then the library for the 8-12 part of my work shift, then head up to my to-be home library for the afternoon. Hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow, all of Evan's things will be at our new apartment, and our internet will be working, and We Will Be Moved. ♥

Joy of completion

I've finished two knitting projects this morning. So of course there are pics!! )

The rest of today will focus on making a crazy amount of buttonholes in my convertible riding pants, making 20 covered buttons, packing for being away from this home for a week, and at long last putting a zipper in my Samus cardigan again so it's a proper cardigan. Plus I have Charlie's Angels "Full Throttle" from the library to entertain me while I hand-sew a zipper into a sweater. Yay. :D

Mostly yay, and one disappointment

A lovely weekend! My Sunday at work flew by; it's always very quiet on Sundays at our Pearl District office. It will be interesting in a couple of weeks to see how it is to have weekends spent in full again at [livejournal.com profile] evannichols's place. Though because I'll be working on Sundays. I definitely miss having both days to hang out with him and not work. Perhaps it will all even out once we're sharing a living space.

Hearing from my sister after my grandmother's funeral. It was well attended and she saw a lot of cousins and of course, all of my aunts and uncles. Apparently she snagged a few hand-knitted items for me as well, knowing that I'd actually wear them.

Today I am totally wearing orange shorts with bright paisley tights underneath. It's all to go with the Airbnb tank top I was given a few weeks ago, which features an orange popsicle on it. Hee. Every day can be dress up (or down) day!

Along those lines, getting caught up in thinking about Steamcon, which I'll go to with Evan and [personal profile] snottygrrl at the end of next month. I'd not been thinking too much about this, but ended up spending a fair amount of time getting inspired by photos of fancy costumes and DIY outfits and assemblage and am now even looking at corsets for fun. o_O I'm not exactly what you would call busty, but some in my size do exist. Evan and I also stopped into Wells and Verne (not much on the site, but the owner and staff are fabulous!!! And this blogspot link has a bit more about them) for inspiration. In the weeks prior to the con, I don't doubt that Evan and I will be engaged in very fun DIY activities for our outfits.

My hair. The beautiful magenta faded incredibly quickly. Not even a week!! I have no idea what color my hair will settle into, as the developer was stronger than what I usually use. It has inspired me to maybe mix up something more in the burgundy range, or plum/auburn rather than the more red and copper. We'll see. And I really do want to cut my hair, especially after Steamcon. Need to start looking into that.

And now, to get ready for my workday! Hope you all had a delightful weekend. ♥

I'm in a video!

Oh, those fun, hip youngsters I'm working with now. :) A video was made to showcase our temporary space here in Portland, so I thought I'd share. You can see me toward the back of our on-the-floor circle around 1:17-1:19, and then around 2:37 there's a speeded-up moment of me jumping on the beanbag in a blur of a leopard-print tank top and khaki skirt. It's all good!

Link is here.

And even if I didn't work here, I do encourage you to look around the Airbnb website because it is a lot of fun. Make an account! (And no, you absolutely do not have to attach any Facebook accounts to create one, though the creation page does push it) Look at amazing — and odd — places to stay! If you have a spare bedroom, list a space!

Okay, enough exclamation points. My new schedule is 10-7 but I've been up since 5 o'clock as I was up with [livejournal.com profile] evannichols and am caffeinated387 or so. :P

Endorphins, my friends

I went jogging yesterday! Three and a half miles, even! Planning to do the same today and through the weekend— until it next rains, even. It felt so good to get some cardio and slow down when I needed to in order to keep it at a jog. Heh. Oh, and the plasma center yesterday was a bust. After three hours I'd still not seen anyone, so I gave up and decided my time could be much better spent than hanging out in their office. Seems ridiculous that the center in Harrisonburg was so much more sophisticated. Maybe another day.

This morning I've been super-productive for whatever reason; maybe a solid night's sleep, though I was deep in the midst of a dream when my alarm went off. I was so on top of things by 7:30 a.m. after doing my laundry and hanging it outside on our impromptu clothesline (ie: the chain link fence in the backyard) that I finally took a couple of pictures of Cooper, the boxer who is so adorable, all cozied up in his favorite chair. The first is with the flash, but the second captures the ambiance better as the curtains are drawn and the room is rather dark.

Cooper, the sweet boxer, in his habitat )

This morning I'm determined to apply to 5-7 positions (four down thus far), do laundry (done), type in the last of the Gimlific I'd been writing on prior to the holidays last year, and some other things before going to catch the bus and meet [livejournal.com profile] evannichols for lunch. It will continue on to be a productive afternoon as well. I'll try and post my knitting WIP, item one from my Secret Endeavor that has had its starts and stops. I'm especially excited about more dyeing once I have my own mini-set and can do it here, or at Evan's.

Happy Friday!

The Two Towers- on the big screen

Quite to my surprise and delight, it turns out that a local theatre in Staunton is participating in the showing of the 3 LotR films on the big screen! One of my choir friends, the woman I sang the duet with last Sunday, treated me to the movie as well as dinner beforehand. It was so much fun! I was so caught up in the moment that I was thinking about trying to get some press involved for the final movie next week, and I might go in costume, try to find other Tolkien fans in the region, stuff like that— and I still may, though today I'm feeling overwhelmed by the other things I'm doing this week. This morning I'm about to go spend time working with the daughter of a woman who cleans for my parents every other week- her daughter doesn't really enjoy reading and I think may have some issues causing that (dyslexia, perhaps). I'm also cleared again to try and donate plasma, then literacy class tomorrow morning, and trying to do meal planning with my stepdad for my mom, who is mostly out of pocket this week due to a week-long conference, and then one of my NYC stepsisters and her husband and 1 year old are coming for the weekend. Oh, and there's also a Sonya Sanchez free poetry reading Friday night, hosted by the poetry center where I was working, so I'll definitely be going to that. So… busy, but good things, all around.

And I started writing on a Tolkien fic! I'm going to take my time with it and see how it develops. New culture for me, and a character I'd not given much thought to prior to the prompt request. Hee.

You all? Hope you're having a good mid-week!
