More bumper stickers!

It's been a while, but one jumped out at me today, and I just assumed two more would follow, and they did. The one that really caught my eye was:
Those darn accordions! [picture of an accordion]
Pro-Accordion & I vote!

This one I suspect many people on my flist own, in green print on a yellow background:
reading is sexy

And then, to round out my morning drive to the Opera:
I PIRATES

Happy Friday to you all! Much to my great pleasure, I had a rather decent sale this morning, and unexpected at that. Which means I have another full week to ensure I make commission, and hopefully then some. On the personal front, it's been rather a week of self-awareness and change, and I feel like I'm on the cusp of some pretty profound understandings. Like the fact that I want to learn how to safely live alone, since that's what I'm drawn to. And that life's short: maybe I really should apply for this program for Audience and Fan Studies at the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies. I mean, why not?? No, I don't know what I'd do with such a degree, but I suspect I could do some teaching, some editing, keep involved in various fan communities and write some more papers. At any rate, rather a turbulent week, but I'm looking forward to some down time this weekend and maybe spending some time with [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl and/or one of my work colleagues. Two in particular are now confidantes and think I'm wonderful and said some things to me I needed to be reminded of. Such as: If I just listen to some of the truest parts of myself, and act accordingly, I'm going to be fine.

So, enough navel gazing from here. I'll do some editing and writing, too. Happy weekend! ♥

Go for it! It sounds like an interesting degree. :)

Have a great weekend. <3

Thanks much! It does, doesn't it? Certainly doesn't hurt that the program is in Wales, though it could be a challenge navigating the system as a foreigner.

You, too! Quick question: how would you feel about beta'ing a short Wraeththu genfic? And a longer Silmfic? ;) You're bearing some of the brunt of this since [livejournal.com profile] elfscribe5 is off in the mesas and [livejournal.com profile] heartofoshun might be the recipient of my AiA story. I'd be happy to reciprocate, of course!

I know I can do the short wraeththu one...I'm not sure about the longer one. I have committed to beta a huge Supernatural fic that I haven't started yet. IF I can get that one finished, then I can tackle your longer fic.

So, yes to the wraeththu one, and maybe to the other. :)

Great! The other one isn't done yet (need to go write more sex) but I'll send the short Wraeththu genfic. Thanks much!! :)

that's great advice which i second heartily. *hugs*

I was so glad I told these particular two what was going on. It was a Thev love-fest. ;) They are both very wise and the universe really is trying to help me out. (((hugs)))

[identity profile] cim-halfling.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I concur with the advice and WHAT, did someone create a program just for YOU?? How awesome is that?

Love you, sweetie!!! *HUGS*

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
They are such wise souls! Opera really can attract the most incredible people. And yeah, that program's pretty fabulous. Media and fan studies... in Cardiff, to boot?! Being a foreigner may or may not work in my favor. I'm going to go to this first appointment on Wednesday and then evaluate about the next couple of months and how involved to get, but still.

I'll be calling you today and singing, too! ;)

Those Darned Accordions is a rock-and-roll accordion band! Probably my favorite accordion group (out of a very, very small field). I heard them do "Rock Lobster" on a radio show, but I don't think there's any video of that (if you search on "Those Darned Accordions" on YouTube, they have videos for 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Dancing Queen', among others. Just so you know). (((Hugs!)))

Oh! :D  Had no idea. I just figured it was one of those Portland bumper stickers, along with the others I've seen that just seem to be a part of the unique culture of this very unique city. ;)

I'll call this weekend! (((hugs back)))

This is the month of existential crisis. It has a point, we just can't see it yet.

One of my dearest friends in Portland it going through the same thing right now. I'm trying to make him move back here.

And reading IS sexy. (I want that bumper sticker.)

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it, now? I've been referring to mine (which has roots that go at least a couple of years back but I believe has now reached its culmination) as a crisis of psyche. That in order to be able to truly go forward, I'm going to have to see my inner landscape as a kaleidoscope and force my hand to turn it, even though I've become so used to the pattern, and let the pieces drop into a new one. Only then will I be free to move on. I'm sorry your friend is suffering.

Send me an email (mine is on my profile page) identifying who you are, pseudonym-wise, with your snail mail address (if you're comfortable with that!) and I'd love to mail you one. Probably with a bonus chatty letter, just because I'd really enjoy that. I know where to find such bumper stickers here in PDX and it can also be a thank you gift for your love of my Wraeththu stories and just being a kindred spirit. ♥

*high fives* on that big sale... nice feeling, yes?

The program sounds neat...and completely unique!

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it *so* was... especially because it was unexpected! Now I 'just' need to make sure I make at least $330 next week in new opera ticket sales and I'll get commission for this pay period. I'm determined!

Yes, it's an incredible program. The second-generation fan studies Big Name, Matt Hills, is an alum of that program. I really have shied away from taking a serious look at this due to cost, but if I could get assistance, well, it's at least worth looking into. If I did the ground work for a Master's in Ethnomusicology those years ago, I can do it now!

Hi sweetie!

Wow, I agree it sounds like a degree with your name on it! And congrats on your sale! And I love that your two co-workers are supportive and that you trust them!

I also just read your earlier post and please don't worry about beta'ing my last pages. I'll be happy to get them anytime. I just want you to relax and feel good! <3

Hope your weekend is awesome!!

((((hugs))))

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey there! I actually got up and made coffee, planning to straightaway beta your stuff, but then realized I should post and call a couple of people who are in different time zones. But I'll get them to you before the weekend's over. I do feel better, though I had crazy, scary dreams last night, which makes no sense because I watched a movie that wasn't at all scary. But it did have to do with moving and not 'reporting in' and surgeries and other scariness. Oh, my head!

((((massive hugs))))
