Bumper stickers and license plates

Today I was behind a truck with a few bumper stickers that caught my eye: one is an old fave, "Not All Who Wander Are Lost." Next to it was "Don't Act Stupid- We Have World Leaders For That."

*sigh*

Interestingly, there was a car next to me at a light with a Rhode Island license plate. It was a personalized plate that said "OREGON." Interesting! So perhaps the person had been an Oregonian who'd moved to RI and come back, or lived in RI and had a fascination with Oregon and then moved. It captured my imagination, anyway.

Happy Friday. Feeing rather pensive and sulky about many things I don't wish to elaborate on, but I hope you all have a good weekend. While I'm in a funk on the interior, I'm wearing my cowboy boots and a fun red shirt with a bright blue funky cat so I at least look like a rock star, even if I just want to go off into the woods for a couple of days and be a hermit. Thanks, Callum, for the brief IM this morning, and to [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl for the card which I received today. I'd written you a short letter as well, so the letters must have crossed!

Around here I (all too often) see those "In Case of RAPTURE, This Vehicle Will Become Driverless" bumper stickers.

Yes, the bumper stickers certainly changed once I was out of Nashville and Virginia. Portland is much more liberal than most places in the south!!

i bet you look absolutely rockin' thev!

*cuddles*

these feelings are like the weather. they come and go. wrap up warm and go about your business. xo

I looked pretty good, though thanks to eating too many chips with cheese or spinach dip, my clothes don't fit quite the way they should. I'll work on that, though.

And yes, the feelings will pass. Thank you for the reminder! XOX

Just a couple of days ago I saw a bumber sticker that read, "Not on the rug, Man." Which means nothing unless you're a fan of _The Big Lebowski_, in which case it is hilarious.

A more recognizable allusion in the political sticker, "Republicans for Voldemort" -- quite popular in my very left-leaning neighborhood.

You ARE a rock star, thrihyrne! And that's why we love you! If it makes you feel any better, I feel "blah," too, and I am starving and in a hotel by myself on a Friday night. Andrew and some friends are meeting me later, but I need to do dinner on my own. Yay!

I loved my Republicans for Voldemort sticker. [livejournal.com profile] gryffindor_j gave it to me, but then some dumba** pulled out in front of me and totaled my poor Honda.

I would live "Not on the rug, Man." My husband had, "This aggression will not stand, man," another Lebowski quote.

You're so kind!! I was actually feeling very close to you this morning as I spent about an hour and a half or so beta'ing for you. I should have the next installment to you tomorrow sometime.

I'm sorry you feel blah; I was feeling sorry for myself, but things have evened out and I'm eating a very yummy salad. :D

By a strange coincidence, I'm wearing my Republicans for Voldemort shirt as I type this!

Woo hoo!! I have great friends. :)

I've not seen The Big Lebowski, so that bumper sticker would have meant nothing. Then again, I've seen a lot of bumper stickers out here that don't make sense! I do love the Republicans for Voldemort one. There's one that's very popular here:

I told myself I couldn't get one until I had Oregon plates, but now I do! ;)

bumper sticker love

Reading these comments -- same day I will watch the Big Liebowski. And I SO want a Voldemort for President -- I've seen three or four on my commute!

*HUGS*

People here aren't at all shy about expressing their feelings on their vehicles! My housemate has a pretty old Volvo that she drives in addition to her more current vehicle, and she and a former partner painted all over it. I should take pictures. ;)

Thank you so much for your sweet voice mails. I'm back on evening shifts so I'm so sorry I missed you, but how lovely that now I can keep those messages! I'll give you a buzz this weekend.

(((hugs)))

"Not All Who Wander Are Lost."

I like this!

[identity profile] thrihyrne.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that a great one? Another is a take off of the Gandalf quote: Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup. :D

LOL!

I wonder how many people who have that bumper sticker (or T-shirt, or whatever) realize it's from Tolkien.

I used to see it a lot at Grateful Dead shows, and couldn't tell whether it was an overlap between hippies and fantasy fans, or if the Deadheads just liked wandering and agreed with the sentiment.
