A foreign concept

So as I was walking home from a fabulous store to get birthday cards (since no fewer than three of my closest friends have birthdays on the same day this month) and was enjoying the glorious weather here in the northern part of Oregon, a few things occurred to me:

‡ Why yes, I did successfully up and move from Virginia to Portland, Oregon, and find a wonderful living arrangement
‡ I am, in fact, going to England next month (and probably Ireland)
‡ I do, also, have an interview tomorrow at a nearby college for a position where I feel I'd do really well
‡ There are some slashers in Portland! And I'll get to meet them!

These thoughts swirled and a strange bubbling up of feelings caused tears to prick at my eyes. I felt an unfamiliar sensation, and it took me a little while, because I haven't felt it in quite some time, but I think I've figured out what it is:

OMG. It's optimism.

To further celebrate, here's a picture of my hallmate's cat, perched on the front gable of the house.

I'm so pleased to hear that you're feeling optimistic, hon. I knew (or rather hoped) that you would get to this point. I went through a mini crisis (nothing on the magnitude of what you were going through) this summer, and there were days when I never thought I'd come out of my funk. But I did and I'd hoped the same would happen with you. I hope your good feelings continue, and i wish you luck with your interview tomorrow!

Yes, it's still a long road, but that's life… the process itself. I'm just glad to be in a place where I'm more in the moment, and today, nearly all of those moments were actively positive ones. (((hugs)))

I love Billy. When Rachel is gone for a day or two, he comes and spends lots of time with me. He even slept with me two nights ago. I loved it.

Sometimes it is! It has cheered me greatly and it feels really good to be more back into my more usual sense of self. That sense of self obviously has changed somewhat in recent years, and that's part of the adventure. ♥

Fall approaches and it is a time for new beginnings. Oh yes, I know popular lore things it is spring when all the wonderful flowers pop up, but hey, if you don't do the proper gardening in the fall, there'd be no flowers in the spring.

Yes; I was going to attend NorthCon, but then my lovely friend veloona realized she was too afraid to fly, so my plans have changed. I'm now spending a few days with callumjames, hopefully an afternoon with Storm Constantine, and then flying to Dublin for a few days. I'm only o'seas for seven days; rather insane, really, but it is what it is.

Yes, I'm writing a very different Ron/Remus; I had your story in my head, of course, since it was my first, so I had to think outside of that for a new one for the Ron/Remus fest (http://community.livejournal.com/remus_ron_slash/profile).
