Knitting and house distress

The pleasant things first. I've nearly finished a great book by Adrienne Martini called Sweater Quest: My Year of Knitting Dangerously. I can't remember where I saw it recced, but it's fun. A woman right around my age gives herself a year to knit a beautiful but challenging Alice Starmore Fair Isle sweater and she blends in a lot about herself, other knitters and the knitting community. As someone who's been involved in that community since the late 90s, it's great fun to read. And she mentions some other books that look intriguing I'll need to get through interlibrary loan. Below the cut are two pics, one of the very beautiful but tedious thistle cardigan (and my process with it reminds me a lot of Adrienne's with her fair isle) because I have made some progress, and the second is the beginnings of my Girl Friday cardigan, my newest project. The color's a little off, unfortunately.

Our dryer broke a month ago. Finally after the landlord trying to get his buddies to get it fixed they bought a new one and finally today it has been connected. Yay. HOWEVER. Last night after I'd gone to bed apparently our toilet overflowed. I found the note from the other Christy to that effect this morning when I woke up. So I used the upstairs. I took a shower and noticed it wasn't draining very well, and was glad to see Christy in the morning to mention that. She said she'd text the landlord. WELL. I spoke with Austin around 6:20 this evening on my way home and he said there'd been more issues when he took a shower later that morning, the toilet had overflowed again, and that our other housemate, Jared, had also texted the landlord who was supposed to be here at 3:00 with a plumber. I came home tonight to find the house empty (Austin's out playing guitar) but both housemate's cars there. I was very distressed to open the door to our bathroom and see several inches of dirty water in the shower, and literal shit in the toilet, and towels soaking up the mess on the floor. So I went and knocked on both housemate's doors but they weren't there- Jared's motorcycle is gone, though, and as I called Austin in both a panic and with anxiety about the whole thing, he speculated that they'd gone out on the cycle. I need to get their numbers but I don't text, so I can't get a hold of them so Austin is texting them for me. This is not acceptable at all! A plumber needs to come NOW. I'm very distressed and while the location and housemate situation has been wonderful, the landlord and problem situation is definitely NOT. The upstairs toilet works, and if no plumber is coming tonight (and I doubt one is) I'll just take the earlier bus and shower at my parent's house. But the bathroom stinks and I was going to clean it this weekend anyway, but I'm feeling somewhat traumatized. Maybe because I'm at home alone and don't know what the status is. It had better be fixed tomorrow. I'm not spending the weekend at my parent's. Wah.

edit: I sound pretty whiny. I should be grateful for indoor plumbing at all and that I haven't been in an earthquake or tsunami.

that would traumatise me. i understand your need for the disclaimer in the eta, and it IS good to have that perspective. but that is still a completely unacceptable situation to have to put up with considering you are NOT in the middle of a climactic weather emergency. xo

Well, I hadn't expected to have to pee in the yard!! But my housemate Christy came by after I posted and let me know that the plumber would be coming by first thing this morning. I did shower at my parents' and had a really pleasant conversation with my stepdad, so that was actually kind of nice. I'll post once it's all been resolved!
