'real version' remakes of some early MTV videos
I'm hooked. I admit it; I became a fan of doing laundry in 7th grade solely because my mom said I could watch MTV if -- and only if -- I was folding laundry. Some of these literal remakes are genius and show just how awful some of the original videos were. This one, of Billy Idol's White Wedding, I have to embed. In fall of '83, I was the last one in my household to go to school. My sister and brother went off, and my mom went off to grad school. Once I had the house to myself, I would illicitly turn on MTV and then call my then-best friend, Kelly Killingsworth, with whom I shared a birthday, when this video came on.
Yes, it's Thev trivia. And the literal remakes are glorious camp. Any others born around 1970 or thereabouts... welcome to parodies of our early adolescence.

What memories! Not for myself really, but my sister begged me to take her to his concerts. I've been to two back in the day. The set for one was two woman's legs and Billy came out through the middle. Then the second concert there was a big fist and it turn and the middle went up and flipped everyone in the audience off. LOL
Good times!

Also: there's stuff in the mail! I hope they don't expedit it by drunken seahorse this time.
Also: now that I'm seeing my icon. Seems I have retained a penchant for stupid bastards in white suits, even in my dotage. *-* (and hello, think Draco in a white suit. Think Draco in a white suit in Petra. *coughcoughcough*)

David Byrne, anyone? Man in a large white suit?
I'll imagine Draco in a white suit. Except I'm not writing him right now; I'm sadly Draco-less.
((cuddles and clings))

Yeah, David Byrine, I hear you; although Byrne's not exactly my type. *g*
Sadly Draco-less? Woe! Noe! We'll have to amend that.

Apart from feeling the song was totally pointless, my primary reaction was that it was the worst case of lip-synching I had ever seen.
*turns on iTunes for some uplifting Broadway*

But when we came back to Germany, and my brother picked us up at the airport, he was listening to Billy Idol's Very Best in the car.
I was excited about it (and I still get onto the dance-floor nowadays when they play Billy in a club *lol*), and so he gave the tape to me. It was my very first music cassette ever back then. I was proud as if it were something holy *lol*.
I can't remember anymore where or when it got lost later on, but when they play something from it on the radio I always turn it louder.
And now my hair is the same bleached blond, and Fee gave a black leather jacket to me a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I should do a silly old-school photo shooting. I even have a skinny jeans that would fit. XD
Hm, I wonder what they show on MTV today. My receiver sucks and won't show it. But I guess I don't really miss anything there. The stuff I like is rarely to be found in the charts these days... ;-)
*hugs you dearly*

I miss you! I need to write you a proper letter, now that I'm situated though I have a cold. No excuse for not writing, however.
Isn't it funny how songs can bring back such memories? I took blank cassette tapes to the U.S.S.R. when I went to Vladimir in 1991 to study, thinking that people there would want them. But of course they didn't; they wanted tapes with music on them! What a mess. And coming back via Helsinki after a month in the Soviet Union, I saw my then-boyfriend going through customs; I about had a heart attack because I knew he had a full army suit in there: jacket, trousers and knee-length boots. He wasn't searched. I was. :P All I had was a bottle of Soviet Georgian vodka, which they let me keep.
I have no idea what would be on MTV anymore. Not so sure that I'm not sorry about that!

WHITE WEDDING was a total favorite!
We were so easy to entertain back then, weren't we? I'm a bit farther down the road than you, but believe me, we goggled MTV like mad. This was back in my uni days, when three of us lived in a two bedroom apartment above a dear old lady whom we most likely sent to an early grave. We goaded her into having the entire house wired for cable TV (she used the old 'aerial' before we came along) just so we could have our MTV. We paid for everything, even HBO for her, which she eventually enjoyed.
Ahh, the good old days...
