::grumblemutter:: LJ argh! And rescued drabbles

I just accidentally deleted all of my drabbles in the prior post in trying to fix a mistake in one of my posts. AUGH!!

Well, here are links to where they live in the other comms, I hope. Oh shit. I didn't have the Éowyn saved... I'm afraid it's gone now. No, wait: it's still in my notebook. Phew! So glad that I write longhand! ;) edit: [livejournal.com profile] star54kar still had it, too!

"Straighten your arm, yes, now hold your shoulders back. Better!" Staenwine affirmed, but Éowyn didn't smile.

She concentrated every muscle, memorizing how it felt to be in the correct posture, at long last bearing the weight of an actual sword. She was going to be a combatant, a well-trained shieldmaiden in the proud tradition of her ancestors.

"Now back, and— watch!" The instructor lunged, his own sword appearing a trifle in his meaty hand, but in order to match Éowyn's, it was a toy to him. Éowyn was only nine, and could bear the lightest of blades. That, she knew, would change.

"Okay, come at me as though I'm an Orc," Staenwine challenged.

She took a deep breath, bellowed, and charged straight at him, sword held level and aimed straight for his belly. He stared for a moment, then yelped, using his own training sword to deflect hers before she wheeled around, eyes fixed on him, ready to go again. The sword master's eyes gleamed in surprise and respect.

"You may put down your weapon, lady Éowyn," he said, slowly nodding his head as she stood up straight, but kept the sword steady in her hands. "You don't have any fear, do you?"

"No," she stated, and then reconsidered. "Well, yes." She let the weight of the blade draw it carefully to the earth. She fixed her eyes on the swords master, though he towered over her. "I'd been afraid you wouldn't be allowed to teach me."
